I don't think money has anything to do with Webber's performance. If he was chasing the dollars he would've taken the Toyota deal (Webber knocked it back so Ralf got the drive). They were offering him a significant amount which he knocked back.

The car has a lot to do with their performances. Both Toyota and Jordan run the same motors. But look where they're on the grid. Same with Ferrari and Sauber.

I wouldn't be surprised if he was backing off the second half of the race. Remember that the engine has to last 2 races. Once things have seattled down and drivers have gotten into a rythmn they usually tell drivers to back off the revs to perserve the engine. I think all teams would employ this stratagy. Webber and Hieldfeld are running aero parts too. Heidfeld rejected the new aero parts.

note: Webber's manager is Flavio Briatore. He also manages Alonso and Fisi.

As said above, I really don't think money has much to do with it at all. Webber's only on approx $4m/year which is middle of the road relative to the rest of the F1 grid. I'm sure he would have been paid more to drive for Toyota and also possibly Renault, but he turned them down to drive for Williams as that was where he felt compelled to go.

The Williams is a dog. It's simple as that. In reality, Webber hasn't been outperformed by his teammate. Had luck gone his way, he would have finished on the podium in Malaysia (instead of Heidfeld inheriting his spot with Fisi took him out) and he would have also finished 2nd in Monaco (if Williams didn't bring him in before Heidfeld). If those things had happened, Webber would be ahead of his teammate on points and nobody was be questioning his ability. I'll be very surprised if he doesn't get on top of Heidfeld by the end of the season. In most circumstances, the cream always rises to the top...although I guess F1 is a cruel game and can sometimes bite you in the ar5e.

note: Webber's manager is Flavio Briatore. He also manages Alonso and Fisi.

BTW, I don't think that Fisi is managed by Briatore anymore despite driving for Renault. I'm pretty sure that I read somewhere that he left Briatore when he left Benetton the first time around.

<Mental note: Must find article, as I'm sure i've had this disagreement with someone on here before lol :( >

there was a quote i saw once that was so true...cant remember it word for word, but it basically stated that at ferrari, the number 1 driver isn't decided by money, but by results, and MS has consistantly shown that he is the number 1 driver.

as for webber, the way the australian media talked him up was a joke. he had accomplished nothing in F1, and they were saying he was the next schumacher. what a joke.

the only good part of that, was that webber himself said "i haven't achieved ANYTHING".

glad it didnt get to his head, because to say he is the next MS, with what he has achieved (or not achieved) was an absolute disgrace!

another thing, why is his ass always burning? lol, i've been a massive F1 fan for ever, and he's the only driver i've heard complain about it, and on more than 1 occasion!

Maybe Webber is too busy setting UK records for the quickest lap time in a Suzuki Liana?

Actually, that honour goes to former F1 champion Damon Hill... But Webber would have won if it was dry...

(Does anyone have any idea what I'm talking about?)

    • Hi all,   long time listener, first time caller   i was wondering if anyone can help me identify a transistor on the climate control unit board that decided to fry itself   I've circled it in the attached photo   any help would be appreciated
    • I mean, I got two VASS engineers to refuse to cert my own coilovers stating those very laws. Appendix B makes it pretty clear what it considers 'Variable Suspension' to be. In my lived experience they can't certify something that isn't actually in the list as something that requires certification. In the VASS engineering checklist they have to complete (LS3/NCOP11) and sign on there is nothing there. All the references inside NCOP11 state that if it's variable by the driver that height needs to maintain 100mm while the car is in motion. It states the car is lowered lowering blocks and other types of things are acceptable. Dialling out a shock is about as 'user adjustable' as changing any other suspension component lol. I wanted to have it signed off to dissuade HWP and RWC testers to state the suspension is legal to avoid having this discussion with them. The real problem is that Police and RWC/Pink/Blue slip people will say it needs engineering, and the engineers will state it doesn't need engineering. It is hugely irritating when aforementioned people get all "i know the rules mate feck off" when they don't, and the actual engineers are pleasant as all hell and do know the rules. Cars failing RWC for things that aren't listed in the RWC requirements is another thing here entirely!
    • I don't. I mean, mine's not a GTR, but it is a 32 with a lot of GTR stuff on it. But regardless, I typically buy from local suppliers. Getting stuff from Japan is seldom worth the pain. Buying from RHDJapan usually ends up in the final total of your basket being about double what you thought it would be, after all the bullshit fees and such are added on.
    • The hydrocarbon component of E10 can be shittier, and is in fact, shittier, than that used in normal 91RON fuel. That's because the octane boost provided by the ethanol allows them to use stuff that doesn't make the grade without the help. The 1c/L saving typically available on E10 is going to be massively overridden by the increased consumption caused by the ethanol and the crappier HC (ie the HCs will be less dense, meaning that there will definitely be less energy per unit volume than for more dense HCs). That is one of the reasons why P98 will return better fuel consumption than 91 does, even with the ignition timing completely fixed. There is more energy per unit volume because the HCs used in 98 are higher density than in the lawnmower fuel.
    • No, I'd suggest that that is the checklist for pneumatic/hydraulic adjustable systems. I would say, based on my years of reading and complying with Australian Standards and similar regulations, that the narrow interpretation of Clause 3.2 b would be the preferred/expected/intended one, by the author, and those using the standard. Wishful thinking need not apply.
