Guest DIRTgarage

Well done Duncan and the boys from BSM, I heard there were a lot of accidents on the weekend!!

Did Jeff Fear from SSS race??

The DP's/DIRTgarage formula ford came a creditable 15th place in only its second outing...i think there were 26 starters. We nearly got taken out on saturday by the vodaphone entry, but some evasive action by Darin kept the weekend together.

Duncan also neglected to mention that Saturday night saw him come down with a nasty cold which has kept him home today!!! Not a bad drive Sunday for someone with a head full of snot!

Bad luck on the clash with the Voda drivers Paul- we've had a few run ins with two of those drivers in the past when they used to race a different class!

gee thanks for sharing the head full of snot info kel.

I just looked at the sheets again and saw that Walls RX-7 did a 1.12 in the race. no wonder he shot past us on the straight like we were standing still. d'oh.

1.12? fark.  I want slicks.  Production sports cars are cheaters :(

haha, that's what they say about your AWD. Even my mate Alan in the birght yellow 1974 911 is lapping quick enough to be second on the grid in improved open class, and he is running in class B prod sports!!

Anyway, enough of my useless comparisons. any word on your engine yet? are we looking at new hose or new plug?

Also, Spencer said if you need any brake fluid let me know as we have heaps now and he got it pretty cheap and will happily sell you some at cost. He went a bit nuts and bought 24 litres... It seems to handle the temp much better than the brembo race fluid we had and it's less than half the price. noice.

it looks like we wont be racing at wakefield as rob's not to keen. also not a good track to take such a nice car like the GT3 as it's often just one big carnage fest. I may come down with you guys though. I reckon you should be pretty competetive at wakefield.

Go Duncan, is this likely to be televised?

Unfortunately I don't think combined touring has paid it's TV coverage fees this season for this round so I don't think it will be.

Prod Sports will be though

It's a shame that some of the combined teams I think weren't willing to pay or didn't pay on time, something like that. I'm sure duncan can elaborate. It's such a great category to watch too, i'm sure it would go down well on the telly.

Actually the TV coverage is an "interesting" deal.

We put in place an agreement with AVE to televise the year at a price. They then came back with a price 20% higher 4 weeks later and said take it or leave it.

We called their bluff and left it.

However each of the first 3 rounds various competitors including BSM came up with the money for coverage, I did not hear confirmation if this round was done.

It will also get coverage in Motorsport news next issue

Richard I had a chat to Spencer, can you grab 2 bottles I'll give it a run at wakefield ;) Will give you a shout about logistics once I know the deal with the car...I have to decide whether to enter tomoz too :)

    • I hope it's actually possible. This is a write off in insurance world.
    • Yup. 2-way with shallow ramp angles. Still works.
    • That was the first session so not a lot to take from the day. It was low 20s ambient and the coolant had got to 110 (and obviously had some pressure!) so that still needs to be addressed. I haven't downloaded the data yet but will. I had refilled the auto trans with Redline DT6 because it claimed the best viscosity I could find at 100o. It wasn't really long enough to get a good feel for that; while the trans got to 100o in the session it still wasn't shifting crisply as I hoped. I think I'll try a few more sessions before judging. No steering motor overheat but I'd hope not in only 1 session! But finally the suspension; it was night and day over the standard stuff and the car was a couple of seconds quicker on the same crappy tyres, which is a huge difference. I'll stick with that and get some sway bars and a mechanical diff sorted too and see how that all goes together
    • I guess it’s partially a compromise of how my car is used, wanting to be able to switch from drift to grip with track side on-car adjustment. Also partially with the way the knuckles are set there is more static camber but less dynamic camber gain.
    • OK, so update from the track day on Friday It was a classic "an unfortunate series of events'. There were a few cars around and when i checked my mirror coming out of the fish hook I notice some smoke from the rear of mine. Looked again and it was getting much worse, I figured I'd blown a turbo or something to got off it and pulled off the racing line. However.... since it is a left hairpin into a right kink, I was on the inside of the next corner. There was a car passing me on the left and a big drop off over the ripple strip on the right......and someone had knocked the witch's hat that was on the apex about 1m onto the track. So, between those 3, I decided to mow down the cone and not damage my car/the other car. Right choice, but surprising result.  The car decided the cone was a small pedestrian so it blew the rear bonnet hinges up to protect their head in the upcoming person to car impact....I didn't see that coming and like an airbag deployment it happened super fast. Straight into the pits from there, everything was driving fine but it became clear it was a coolant leak not smoke, it was billowing up onto the windscreen. Onto the trailer and home. I'll do a separate thread about the repair (once I work out what it is ), but the immediate problem was the bonnet wouldn't open because the front was pinched onto the front bar and would not release. Ultimately we unbolted the hinge from the bonnet, pulled it back a little and it released from the front OK. "There's your problem", the top radiator hose had popped off at the radiator.
