I keep my keys in my room as well, in my cap with my wallet & watch. Just get a bit paranoid by how easy it is for people to look into windows, and once the way theives (pricks) steal cars leant towards stealing the keys, I always kept my personal stuff near me.

I also keep half of a broken pool cue next to my bed, never know when you have to break out with some vigilante stylez..................

off topic, but Topaz do you have a 32 or 33?? I seen a nice black 33 with a stealth spoiler & fmic at the shops in Bentley (or near the tafe & uni anyway), your avatar looks pretty much the same. I also noticed an unmarked cop car come in behind it, turned out to be 2 ladies of the law on a lunch break.

you dont even need a scary dog. dogs will wake up from the slightest noise out of the ordinary. my dog will sleep through a whole morning of me getting ready for work but if theres a tap in the middle of the night hes 100% alert and working out what made it. when they get tense it tends to wake you up as well.

hes also built like a mack truck and has jaws like a bear trap, which helps.

had my garage open for about 5 mins yesterday and went out back to the shed. as i was coming back through the house i heard my car door alarm sensor and then the alarm went off. ran through the house to the garage but other than door being ajar nothing was touched. car was locked and alarmed but window was open so i guess they reached through to unlock the door and were scared off went the alarm went off. the door was only open 5 mins and someone wanted the car, i couldnt beleive it. the other car has the keys left in it all the time , they could have that one, its insured.

kermit

The other option is for a pin code pad near the ignition for your car. you need the pin code to start the car even with the keys in the ignition.

Umm I actually had one of those PIN code alarm installed in my RX7. Same as the ones in the WRX, but after one night of heavy drinking with the boyz...I couldn't remember my code.... naturally, big dramas followed! :)

I guess my tips on car security is to have a quality alarm system installed by a professional and if possible keep the car in a lock up garrage. Also, as previously stated, keep the keys in a safe place where it is not obvious to other people.

Cheers

F*ck thats gay man

Yesterday a friendly neighbour came over to have a chat with me, as they'd had goons jumping over fences and gates in my apartment block looking into all the cars windows on Tuesday night :) Just when you think your car is safe in a garage you've got it all wrong!

Thieves suck, I know I sleep with my keys for security!

How much approx to get this feature?

I'm getting real paranoid. It recently hit me that I do not know that how many ppl (mechanic, friends, previous owner) could have a set of my keys.

mate i think www.jaycar.com.au have them, dont know how good they are but i have seen them there,

they also have some good security items there, such as door alarms for sheds really cheap and loud i got one, it can also be used as a trip wire, so you place one magnet thing on one side of garage and the other on the otherside, and if anyone walks up your driveway into your garage, bang it goes crazy, i guess if ya got cats ect ect would be a pain but i guess if u put it knee hight would be ok, i wouldnt mind wakin up once in a blue moon for the sake of savin my ride.. espeacly out here in wycombe were there are alot of native australians

Because of things like this I had a Brant system fitted to mine which includes the keypad.. ppl complain about entering the pin.. I say for the 3 seconds it takes me, I don't care - if that's the difference between a thief looking and walking away - or smashing my window and f**king up the interior i'll do it..

cost around $900 for the brant system - yes I know they are in receivorship/not around - however there are some private guys who are still putting them together and installing them..

or you can get the just cars one which pretty much does the same thing - however I think it could be easy to get around rather than the brant one is all wired in together..

have managed to set my alarm off 3 times so far - the sonic speakers make it very uncomfortable when in the car if it goes off - they hit you at a particularly nasty pitch..

that and i've got 2 sliding latches on my garage that can only be opened from the inside..

Sad fact is - if someone wants your car bad enough.. they'll get it..

i'd recommend keeping your keys within your bedroom within reach.. and hide the spares.. in a safe or something..

I read a good article in ASM a while back, you might have heard it, but this is what happened anyway. The former editor of the magazine had a GTR (r33 I think) he was going to sell, and the insurance ran out. Because he was going to sell it & kept it in garage he didn't renew, and then one night decided to take it & get some KFC. Long story short, ended up nearly getting carjacked after his car was hit from behind by a stolen wrx, and the brant alarm & keypad saved him from having a 45k loan for an empty space in his driveway. He said if he was insured he would have just given them the keys instead of running away, chased with a baseball bat & axe, and hit by a car.

We are the agents for the brant system here in Perth and even though brant has gone into receivership, things are looking up now. Yes we lost a lot of $$$ when they went bang, as we did a lot of installs for them in WRX's etc.

Anyway, we can now help again with the brant keypad system and/or alarm systems. We also have other keypad immobiliser and alarm systems from different manufacturers, which you may want to consider. Just today I received a new system also with keypad, which can be added to any alarm system. One of the options on that is a interface, which will call/SMS your mobile. Then you can send an SMS back to the system in the car and cause it to do certain functions (up to 3 different functions possible). This system was designed mainly to go with the latest factory alarm systems in Holden and Ford, but can be adapted to go with any alarm and possibly even without an alarm, just in case you want to send a SMS to your boat to switch on the fridge, so that the beers are cold when you get there ;-)

If there is any interest let me know and we can talk.

    • You just need to remove the compressor housing, not the entire turbo. I would not be drilling and tapping anything with the housing still on anyways.
    • So, I put my boat on a boat. First of all, I'm going to come out and say it. Why is Tasmania not considered a holy goal, an apex that all road-legal modified cars go to, to experience? This place is an absolute wonderland of titanic proportions. If people are already getting club runs for once in a lifetime 30 person cruises to Tassy then I've never seemed to see it. It is like someone replaced the entire place with an idyllic wonderland for cars, and all of the people living there with paid actors who are kind, humble, and friendly. Dear god. After doing a lap of almost all of the place I've found that it's a great way to find out all of the little things that the car isn't doing quite right and a great way to figure it all out. All in all, I drove for 4 hours a day for a week and nothing broke. I didn't even need to open the engine bay. This is by all means a great success, but it has left me with a list of things to potentially address. I also now have a 3D printed wheel fitment tool which annoyingly hasn't got any threads in it to actually assemble it. I might be able to tape it together to check the sizing I actually want to use, but it'll likely involving pulling the shocks out to properly measure travel at least at the front, and probably raise the car while I'm at it, at least in the rear. I scraped on quite a few things and I'm not sure how else to go about it. I was taking anything with a bump at what felt like 89 degree angles. And address those 10 other tasks. And wash the car. God damn it is dirty. And somehow, the weather was perfect the entire time - And because I was on the top of Mt Wellington it turns out it was very much about to freeze up there. I did something I typically never do and took some photos up there in what must have been -10 and the foggy felt like suspended ice, rather than mere fog. If you own a car in Australia, you owe it to yourself to do it.
    • Damn that was hilarious, and a bit embarrassing for skylines in general 😂 vintage car life ey. That R33 really stomped. Pretty entertaining stuff
    • Hi, I have a r32 gtr transmission. Does any of you guys have an idea how much power it will hold with the billet center plate and stock gearset? At what power level and use did yours brake with or without billet plate? Thanks, Oystein Lovik
    • Saw this replica police car based on a Mitsubishi Starion XX parked next to a 'police box' (it's literally a box) in Hirohata, Himeji City in Hyogo prefecture the other day. It's owned by Morii-san who is a local Mitsubishi Starion enthusiast. According to a local radio station blog post, he always wanted to make a police car himself based on ones he saw in his favourite Manga comics.  As it's illegal to modify a car to look like a police car and drive on the road, Morii-san tried many times to get permission from Aboshi police station headquarters nearby. They refused initially by after they got tired of that they granted him permission. However, the car can only be displayed on private property and obviously can't be registered as long as the police livery is present. The car was completed at a cost of 1.5 million yen (US$ 10,000) in addition to the car cost. A location was chosen outside Hirohata Police box where the car can easily been seen from the street. Morii-san has two other Starion road cars, both widebody GSR-VRs.
