question...has anyone gone from jap coilovers say tiens hks to billies? what did you guys think of the swap? ive got tiens, love the firmness but hate all the bumps and knock noises that comes with it (bloody used coilovers and worn pillow tops)

gary, is it possible to increase the spring rates one stage harder with correct dampening and rebound rates in this group buy? have you gotten around to getting those circuit and drift setups completed yet for those gb's?

cheers.

Sorry guys I have been on holidays since the 20/12, I will get around to the hundred or so PM's over the next few days.

I don't have definite delivery date for the Bilstein shocks, but they have been produced by Bilstein Germany, so it is only shipping time. As soon as I have a confirmed date I will post it here.

All other items for R33GTST's are available.

:) cheers :(

Hi Sk, was considering replacing my rear springs from my tein HA coilovers with whiteline springs. Would these springs fit or do i need a special set for colivers?

The Whiteline coil springs in the Group Buy are designed for use with standard spring seats (top and bottom). So they won't fit a coil over shock with non standard top and bottom spring seats. I can organise Eibach (the best) coil springs, all I would need is the ID and free length of the current springs.

Wait a few days and PM them to me as I need to clear the inbox a little.

:) cheers :(

Heaps of guys have done the upgrade from Teins, I get at least 5 enquiries a week. Every one so far has been ecstatic with the results, far better handling, more traction for acceleration and braking and a far superior ride. The guys who do circuit work have reported faster lap times.

So, the obvious question, why do you want to increase the spring rate? Springs are there to hold the car up and soak up the bumps, that's their job. Stabiliser bars control the roll. Anti dive geometry controls the dive under braking, anti squat geometry controls the squat under acceleration. The camber and caster adjuster increase the tyre contact pathc with the road/track. The shocks control the whole package.

Simply put, you don't need excessively high spring rates to have good handling.

:) cheers :(

Hey Gary,

It might be in the thread somewhere, but its not in the first post...Was wondering what the model numbers for the whiteline springs are?

I know you've chosen the shocks to suit them, and added the extra groove, but are the springs just a regular whiteline product?

cheers.

I'll save you another PM :)

After lots of hours spent replying and deleting, my PM inbox is no longer full.

The shipment of R33GTST Bilsteins is in the country, just needs customs clearance and local delivery. I would anticipate late this week or early next week. When I have a definite availablity date I will post it up.

But you can place an order from today, safe in the knowledge that it won't be more than 2 weeks till you have your delivery.

:) cheers :)

Hi sydneykid,

Damn your popular pm box always full when i try to PM! :P

I've had the bilsteins in my 33 for a few months now, using the stock factory springs. bit silly i guess but $$$!

How much stiffer a ride do you think the whiteline give compared to what im experiencing now with bilsteins using factory springs? Or is it just too hard to say seeing as what ive done right now has thrown the stock springs compression ratio out?

Also, are the whiteline springs the same size as stock? ie will direct swapping result in a lower ride height at all? Im thinking if not, but they are a bit stiffer, it might be wortwhile lowering the bilsteins another circlip groove all around. Thoughts?

What height is it now? There is a limit as to how low you can go with the standard springs.

 cheers

PS; PM box has space

    • Well you could certainly buy or build an enclosure for a pod in that corner of the bay. It is absolutely vital that there is a nice big opening to let cold air in to it from the front or underside, otherwise it will just pull air in around the edges from the bay, and if that air is hot, you gain nothing from enclosing the pod. There is lots of good evidence around (including on here, see posts by @Kinkstaah for example) showing that pods pulling hot air from the bay is only a problem when you're static or slow in traffic, and that as soon as you get the car up and moving the air being grabbed by the pod cools down. Although that will obviously vary from car to car, whether there is a flow of cold air to the pod or if it all has to come through the radiator area, etc etc. Obviously, the whole exercise requires as much thought as anything else does. Doing the lazy thing will often end up being the dumb thing. The stock GTT airbox has a cold air snorkel to feed it from over the radiator. Shows that Nissan were thinking. The GT airbox is upside down compared to the turbo one, yeah? Inlet at the bottom, AFM/exit on the lid? That might make it harder to route the turbo inlet pipe using the GT airbox than a turbo one. That would probably be the main reason I'd consider not using it, not that it is too small and restrictive. I'm looking at a photo of one now and the inlet opening seems nice and large. Also seems to have the same type of snorkel that the turbo one has. Maybe all that's required is to make a less restrictive snorkel/cold air inlet, perhaps by punching down through the guard like I did.
    • Also seen this as an option
    • I get you, we’ll see I’m aiming for 200ish kw now and hopefully 300rwkw down the line after some upgrades maybe like headstuds, E85 flex fuel etc  so trying to make it final for that now, I can get a GTT airbox for $280 so it’s not too bad but not sure if there’s better ways to spend that money. I seen online they say pod filter which isn’t enclosed isn’t good especially for a plus T.      hard to say what to do
    • Meh. How much power can you make from a +T anyway? I wouldn't have though it would be enough to challenge the airbox. It's not as if it's tiny compared with the turbo one. As to putting a pod in a stock airbox .... it's not the filter element that would be restrictive. It would be the air inlet to the box that would be the narrow point, which you could open up regardless of what element was inside. On my R32 I opened up the sort of triangular opening in the bottom front corner of the box, deformed (heated, moulded) some 4" stormwater pipe to fit to that opening and punched a 4" hole down through the inner guard to the spot where the stock intercooler used to be. This was purely in the search for a cold intake, but you could do something similar if you need to open up the inlet side of it. The AFM tube size is the same for both NA and turbo, so the outlet from the airbox is same same anyway. If you're going to do the right thing, then an aftermarket ECU won't care about the AFM (ie, you can get rid of it). But even if it was still there, people pull >300rwkW through them all day, and I suspect you won't be going there.
