Am planning on doing the hard-top Lada in matte black (note the 'e' on the end there folks). Am told the more realistic option is a flat satin finish - as matte (there's that 'e' again) marks very easily.

Will detail the paint options, prep and finish for you.

Mind you - I AM going for a 'cheap and nasty' approach for a cheap and nasty car. I think on the R34 it will look tough... but only if done perfectly. And it goes without saying for a car like yours we're talking flat satin, rather than matte primer.

Either way - Black Russian details to come soon.

that r33 GTR isn't just a paint job. the car is in the skyline museum of japan and is all carbon fibre

...as far as my recollection of the post goes, which was years ago.

Nah that's paint... see how the lower front lip has C/F, and the car has R34 wheels painted in the same matte (note 'e' James :P ) as the rest of the car

btw is the hot rod you saw, a burnout purpose build one? if so i saw it when it was here at the drifts - mallala and a.i.r

not too sure, it had big fatties, and was sort of bubble shape, so it could have been. But then again, aren't they all .. Didn't take photos unfortunately.

It was up on the goldcoast for a small hotroad show/meet..

i agree with ya. i was just under hte impression that under that coat was carbon fibre.

i found demon daves post about it from over a year ago... he described it as a carbon r33 gtr... now that i reread it, i guess he was just referring to the colour :P

wow... thanks for the responses y'all!! i reckon the 32 looks good but the 33... hmm.... not so sure. But yeah, a little hard to tell from the pics but liking the 32.

So i'd be after a satin finish would i? hmm... ok, who's got pics of that?

James, would be absolutely tops to find out what's involved with the matte and satin finishes... might give Troy a buzz :)

it's funny how everyone either hates it or loves it... i asked a few ppl at work, and they were the same. Interesting :)

V8skylineMAN: thankks for the pic mate, looks good on the old school cars i think... just not 100% on a R34 shape

shanef: that would be great mate... i think we need someone representing from the metallic corner :)

Timbo auzz: that was definitely a plan, metallic black but with some extra blue or purple pearl..i was told the Nissan black has a few layers to it?

Pete: matte/satin black, black rims, slammed, GTR kit, no rear spoiler, gold brembo's

rrage: i'm really liking that 32... looks like it has a little, little gloss/shine to it?? is that a satin finish as opposed to a matte finish? anymore pics at all?

nismo au: hey! now that's some pictorial evidence right there ;) altho doesn't look the best does it, so this is carbon fibre with a matte finish? or just what the carbon fibre looks like naturally? from those pics alone, i probably wouldn't go for it.. probably after something darker looking.

looks like a f*cking stealth jet tho :)

2GU UP: i saw it on an old school (but done up) car a night time in Melb city, didn't get a great look but i thought it was tough, and something a little different. I think maybe if it's done right, and it seems more satin than matte... it could turn out ok.

Marcus: hahaha, don't think i'll quite head down that road... :)

    • Nope.    Grab a varex and turn it down as you get close to home, win win?
    • So, I've had my V36 for about a month now and have already copped an "excessive exhaust noise" notification from QLD TMR, reported by someone in my local area. It's a twin as per the original, and can have a bit of a throaty note to it when idling cold 😄 and if I do get up it a bit, it can be noisy, but it did pass a roadworthy inspection before sale, so.... ... but in the interest of being a good neighbour, I do want to quieten it down a bit. Is anyone here running a quiet aftermarket cat-back on their V36 or 370Z? And the big, bold question: does an aftermarket cat-back really make much of a performance difference on these cars?
    • The wiring diagram for the R33 RB25 is freely available, and is essentially the same same as most other RBs (just with differences as to which pin # does which job). To get the ECU to power up, you just need to provide power to the ECCS relay, and have the other power feeds that come in from the top left of the wiring diagram (wrt the ECU) that give perma power to the fuel pump relay, the ECU itself, etc etc, all connected. When you put power on all these it will just come to life. It's pretty clear from the diagram what needs to happen. Just follow the lines from the 12V + supply stuff in the top left over towards the ECU. I've even posted snips of such diagrams (not for vanilla 25, I think for Neo and 26) to various threads here in the last few months, talking about what it takes to get the fuel pump and FPCM up and going. Search these up and they will help get you started on doing the same with the vanilla 25 diagram. Hell, for all I know, I've done the same with that one in years past and have forgotten.
    • Yep...so unless someone posts up the answer you will need to probe from the ECU connector to the dash plug with a multi meter in continuity mode to trace the wires.  Note the ECU has multiple - and + (and across different key settings - Battery, IGN and Start) and most likely the power is fed from the connector(s) that is normally near the left hand headlight.
    • Thanks Duncan, I am actually just trying to get the Rb turning and running with the RB25DET S2 original loom itself  I am just trying to get it going outside the body and not thinking about the S15 or trying to match anything to the S15 loom at all I am only trying to see if anyone has done this and what pin they found to be the ignition trigger and ECU+/- on the dash connector, that's about it. Thanks
