So,

Ever since the first stag cruise here in SA ive had a small stone chip on the windscreen (where we pulled of onto gravel between strath and victor as we drove of car in front of me flicked up a rock).

Driving home from work yesterday hurd an ad about how obrien do a windscreen repair for these chips to prevent cracks in future and it getting worse due to heat ect..... though to my self yeah should get it done.

Well today after work jump in car (boiling hot here today 40+deg) crank the A/C... takes a while to get cold as you know and then i feel the refreshing cool on my face and tink tink tink.... your not f**king serious! yeah away it cracked.

Cry cry cry

driving to work this morning, in the rh lane on the freeway, i hear a f**kin BANG! i thought oh f**k thats not cool.

a rock from a truck hit my screen. if i had have been in the middle lane where the truck was, it would have probably hit me square in the face.

good start to the day. as soon as i put a for sale sign on the car, this happens.

Quick question - do any of these non-oem replacement screens have the de-icer in them? My S1 has a couple of small chips that could almost warrant a claim on my insurance, but the de-icer is my main concern with aftermarket...

did ring obrians today.... turns out they dont have any s1 screens left in oz and they asked for my VIN number so they could get it in from nissan.... does this mean im gonna be up for a grand?

Dunno but when they replaced my windscreen they took down the tint number (apparently there are three or more different ones ) to make sure they matched it. Just ring your local windscreen replacement outfit and if they don't know the answer tell them to find out - shouldn't be too hard.

well was alot easier than expected! Got it replaced thisarvo by InstanWindscreens. Had one in stock here in SA!

My vision is clear as day $395 later, was expecting iot to be ALOT more than that

And today on the way to work.... Another f**king stone chip. Got it booked into for a repair/glue tomorrow morning before it gets up to 38 in the arvo to reduce the chance of loosing 2 in less than a year!

    • just an update to this, poor man pays twice  Tried sanding down the pulleys but it didnt do the trick. Chucked another second hand alternator in the na car which I got for free off my mate and its fixed the squelling. Must have been unlucky with the bearings.    As for my turbo car, I managed to pick up a cwc rb alternator conversion bracket + LS alternator for 250 off marketplace, looked to be in really good nick. Installed it , started the car and its not charging the battery.... ( Im not good with auto elec stuff so im not sure if this was all I needed to do but I verified such by using a multimeter on the battery when the engine was running and I was only getting 12.2v )   I had to modify the earth strap for the new LS alternator , factory earth strap was a 10mm bolt which did not fit the bolt on the LS alternator which was double the size so I cut it off , went to repco bought some ring terminals that fit, crimped it onto the old earth strap and bolted it up to the alternator , started the car and same issue. Ran like shit and was reading 12.2 at the battery.  For a "plug and play" advertised kit thats not very plug and play but alas.  My question is , am I missing something ? Ive been reading that some people recommend upgrading the stock 80 amp alternator fuse to a 140 amp but I dont see how that would stop the alternator charging especially at idle not under load.  Regardless ive pulled it out and am going to get it bench tested by an auto elec tomorrow but it would be handy to know if ive missed something silly or have done something wrong.
    • My wild guess is that you have popped off an intake pipe....check all of the hoses between the turbo and the throttle for splits or loose clamps.
    • Awesome, thanks for sharing!
    • To provide more specific help, more information is needed. What Android screen? What is its wiring diagram? Does the car's wiring have power at any required BAT and ACC wires, and is the loom's earth good?
    • So, now all you need to do is connect the 2 or 3x 12v feeds into the unit to permanent 12v, ACC 12V and IGN 12V that you can find in the spot behind the stereo, and the earth, and then it will switch on with the car.
