Ross from works auto put one of those hurricane filters on for me yesterday, they are supposed to be a huge improvement over the HKS pod filter. Driving home tonight I'd put my foot down with 12psi of boost and it'd cut out as soon as it hit 12psi, so I dropped it back down to 9psi and it was misfiring bigtime at the top end and didnt feel like it was pulling past 5000rpm... any idea's? think I'll go back to the HKS pod and get a refund.

Ken - did Jeff say anything to you about the car and what i said?? I hope I didn't get you in  trouble

Nah , Jeff wasn't there and as I said , it's not a problem.

Only saw the car you were looking at outside in the dark and rain.

Didn't look too bad but can look at it closer once you decide if it's the one you want.

Cheers

Ken

Lack of restriction causing overboost and lean mixtures.

Seems strange cos I didn't think there would be that much diff between pod filters.

    • Despite the level up question, actually I do know what that is....it is a pressure sender wire.  So check out around the oil filter for an oil pressure sender, or maybe fuel pressure near the filter or on the engine. Possibly but less likely coolant pressure sensor because they tend to be combined temp/pressure senders if you have one. Could also be brake pressure (in a brake line somewhere pre ABS) but maybe I'm the only one that has that on a skyline.
    • Pull codes via the self-diagnosis procedure. As far as I can tell this is just a sign of transmission issues but not a code unto itself.
    • Hi All, putting the engine back together and everything is perfect except have this plug left over.. any ideas what it is for and where it goes? Is on cold side under the intake plenum *note not a stock plug, as everything has been modified Cheers
    • Sounds like a misfire. Check fuel pressure and don't even think about going into boost while it's like this unless you enjoy engine rebuilds.
