Has anyone had to change their brake master cylinder in their 32 gtr ?

Mine is leaking and in need of replacement but iam having trouble finding a new one. Would anyone know where i could get one ?

Thanks

Tim.

Most good brake shops will be able to recondition the master cylinder for you - you will have to do without it for a few days. Approx $200 is the asking price.

Just a word of warning - insist they get the seals etc in their store BEFORE you give them anything & check they have done a GT-R one before. I got caught like that by two different shops & had to swap units between my cars.

Just made a few calls.....

ABS said they have no listing for new master cylinders or kits but they could recondition the one I have using parts and seals from other kits. This would cost about $300 to $350 but he hasnt done a GTR before and cannot guarantee it can be done.

Nissan said $620!! for a new master cylinder and

$174 for a kit.

I think i might be best to get the correct kit from nissan and get a good brake shop to recondition it. But iam not sure ??

If Nissan have a kit, then use that. The guys at ABS should be able to work with it.

Do you have a part number for the KIT?

It would save my life if someone can post it. The local NISSAN dealer will get it if I have that magic number.

Regards

Mark :)

Hmm, I am having problems with my Master Cylinder too at the moment. Feels like theres air in the system and the pedal is really squishy before I start the car.

I am pretty sure mine is just the seals and may just need a kit, and I can guarantee its gunna be more than $174 from Nissan in Perth :)

32 and 33 GTR are apparently different I've never had the two side by side though.

Master cylinder v air in the lines.

Air in the lines - when you put your foot on the pedal it is really mushy, but if you pump it a time or two it comes up nice and hard

Master cylinder leaking - when you put your foot on the brake and hold it, your foot sinks slowly to the floor.

mine is like that, but it takes a damn while to come good. I mean like 45+ seconds before its normal and then throughout a drive its good

I should have said, air in the lines is very easy to fix, you just need to bleed the brakes. There should be a thread on here about how to do it.

If it hasnt been done for a while run a whole bottle through first make sure its clean and bubble free.

    • Hope you aren't too sore after that one, might take a day or 2 to notice yet and I guess it is a loooooong drive home. On the bright side, tube frame front end is a thing at superlap, right?

    • The chart of front pressure to rear pressure (with one being on the x axis and the other being on the y axis) is not a straight line on a typical proportioning valve. At lower pressures there is a straight line with one slope, and at higher pressures that changes to a lower slope. That creates a bend in the line at that pressure, called the knee point. If you do not change the proportionng as the pressure gets higher, you will suffer excessive pressure (at one end of the car or the other, depending on which way you look at the proportioning action) and then get lockups at that end. The HFM BM57, from my memory of previous discussions, is based on the BM57 from a different car (to a Skyline), with a different requirement for the location of the knee point and the distribution of pressure front to rear, and so is not a good choice for an upgrade on a Skyline. Here's a couple of links to some old posts, one from here, one from elsewhere. A lot of it pertains to adjustable prop valves, but the idea is the same. There are plenty of discussions on here about this issue from al the many years of people wanting a cheap/accessible option. https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/grm/learn-me-brake-proportioning-valves/236880/page1/ https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/grm/learn-me-brake-proportioning-valves/236880/page1/
    • Yeah dunno why johhny posted that here with no context, just post on FB/insta bro where he put it up?  Laine had an off at T4 during Thurs prac, he's ok, car is less than perfect, they are done for the weekend, he can fill in the rest. Bando also binned it like 100m up the road.
