Any reason why your pulling the head off and changing the head gasket??

[/quote

i wanted to make sure it wouldnt let me down replaceing it with a steel one !

and i wanted head cleaned up so we get an idea wat condition head and bore is in

Would have been nice to have had the turbo off Twoogle but had so many time wasters with my setup so just going to use it again.

Rob if you dont have this thing at power chews this year im going to kill your babies!!!!!!

id just like to see it run once more. im sure you would like that too.

fair enough , for what your plannang with your car imo your wasting $$ is all :) , unless there is a problem with the engine i wouldn't be pulling it apart. just get a compression test done :) and a leakdown test , will give you a fair indication of the engine health

I only did so much work to mine straight up because my engine was f**ked when I got it.

Would be nice to have a play at PC but dont want to jinx this engine. lol

Hope to give it a run at the drags with slicks and the big shot of NOS armed as I wont get many runs.

I would be happy to drive the thing as its been off the road for so long. The fastest thing I have driven in years in my 2.6 rodeo work ute. haha

Fuel Tek in L'ton

top blokes ! they have worked on all my cars and work mates   from us

every one has there own opinions of tuners and workshops. if your happy thats all that matters. definatly not the first place i would go but not the last either.

ok its getting the turbo kit installed

head regrind

timeing belt and all others

fuel pump

new fluid all round and a good flush out

new stud kits

new steel head gasket

new intake pipes filter

amd other supporting little things it will need

going to hold off on inject's untill ecu done ,

i was thinking water pump next

would i be worth getting a oil cooler ? or go a new oil pump first ??

just putting it out there ill have a YZF400 4sale soon 2G ,90 model lol need a clutch :)

everyone has questioned why you are changing the head gasket. you can take from this what you like but you are oviously new to skylines.

i personly have never seen an original rb head gasket ever give a problem other than if the car has been overheated and has worped the head. the best way to get a good run out of any skyline is to not toutch the original engine bar providing safety mods. unless you are building race engines, and there is a big difference between race engines and road engines.

take a bit of a look around this site. there is blokes putting out 350-400rwkw on stock un-opened rb25 neo motors. thats in drift cars copping a hiding. one bloke has drifted for well over a year 2 comps a month with 350rwkw on a stock un-opened engine.

you asked about doing the water pump. these are best done while doing the timing belt. im sure your mechanic would advise you of this as the whole front of the engine has to come off to do the water pump so while your in there doing the timing belt may as well do the water pump.

ive also never seen anyone put an oil pump in a rb unless its being rebuilt. the neo rb25 run a bit more refined oil pump than prevous models but the pump isnt usualy an issue unless its on an r32 GTR.

the main point is the money spent stuffing around with the head on and off labour, head gasket, head studs, head grinding would go a long way towards a ECU upgrade.

at a rought guess

head gasket $250

head grind $100?

studs $100?

labour $700?

thats half way to an ecu. or a decent clutch. the ecu will extract good power from the turbo even on the factory injectors. then put injectors in later on. they are one of the easiest parts to change out of all that is listed.

its up to you in the long run mate but theres no need to re-invent the wheel. these engines have been played with time and time again with no dramas with the parts you want to change.

Well I just noticed I hadnt posted the ti up at all.

So far its got s13 bc coilovers

modified knuckles

extra lock spacers

modified radius arms

r32 4 potters

silo lsd

every diff bush is nolithained

lower trailing arms are boxed with 3mm plate

manual conversion

extractors

3 inch intake with pody

18x7 1/2 lensos

I'd definitely listen to damo and everyone else on this.

Replacing parts that arent broken is really a money wasting exercise, unless its a turbo that may fail and blow ur engine.

Removing a head to grind it and replace a stock HG that are capable of 600hp plus is pointless.same for the stock head bolts.

I wouldn't open the engine unless something failed.. by doing it now you will probably pay to do it twice.

Once now, and again for a rebuild if the engine does fail.. wait till it fails, if it fails!

for a plenum, on a stock motor its a waste of money

An ecu should definitely be on the top of peoples modification lists.. e.g. it will make a stock 25 better than one with just a bigger turbo put on..its all about the tune

+1 for ECU being #1 mod.

also I got a go pro camera :D

Look how tiny it is when it's not in it's little case!

Tested it out, 720p recording is awesome. It'll do 1080p too but it's not that amazing.

I'll be slapping this on people's cars at the track day so you'll all something to remember the day by.

    • It would be well worth deciding where you want to go and what you care about. Reliability of everything in a 34 drops MASSIVELY above the 300kw mark. Keeping everything going great at beyond that value will cost ten times the $. Clutches become shit, gearboxes (and engines/bottom ends) become consumable, traction becomes crap. The good news is looking legalish/actually being legal is slighly under the 300kw mark. I would make the assumption you want to ditch the stock plenum too and want to go a front facing unit of some description due to the cross flow. Do the bends on a return flow hurt? Not really. A couple of bends do make a difference but not nearly as much in a forced induction situation. Add 1psi of boost to overcome it. Nobody has ever gone and done a track session monitoring IAT then done a different session on a different intercooler and monitored IAT to see the difference here. All of the benefits here are likely in the "My engine is a forged consumable that I drive once a year because it needs a rebuild every year which takes 9 months of the year to complete" territory. It would be well worth deciding where you want to go and what you care about with this car.
    • By "reverse flow", do you mean "return flow"? Being the IC having a return pipe back behind the bumper reo, or similar? If so... I am currently making ~250 rwkW on a Neo at ~17-18 psi. With a return flow. There's nothing to indicate that it is costing me a lot of power at this level, and I would be surprised if I could not push it harder. True, I have not measured pressure drop across it or IAT changes, but the car does not seem upset about it in any way. I won't be bothering to look into it unless it starts giving trouble or doesn't respond to boost increases when I next put it on the dyno. FWIW, it was tuned with the boost controller off, so achieving ~15-16 psi on the wastegate spring alone, and it is noticeably quicker with the boost controller on and yielding a couple of extra pounds. Hence why I think it is doing OK. So, no, I would not arbitrarily say that return flows are restrictive. Yes, they are certainly restrictive if you're aiming for higher power levels. But I also think that the happy place for a street car is <300 rwkW anyway, so I'm not going to be aiming for power levels that would require me to change the inlet pipework. My car looks very stock, even though everything is different. The turbo and inlet pipes all look stock and run in the stock locations, The airbox looks stock (apart from the inlet being opened up). The turbo looks stock, because it's in the stock location, is the stock housings and can't really be seen anyway. It makes enough power to be good to drive, but won't raise eyebrows if I ever f**k up enough for the cops to lift the bonnet.
    • There is a guy who said he can weld me piping without having to cut chassis, maybe I do that ? Or do I just go reverse flow but isn’t reverse flow very limited once again?
    • I haven’t yet cut the chassis, maybe I switch to a reverse flow. I’ve got the Intercooler mounted as I already had it but not cut yet. Might have to speak to an engineer
    • Yes that’s another issue, I always have a front mount, plus will be turbo plus intake will big hasstle. I’ve been told if it looks stock they’re fine with it by a couple others who have done it ahahaha.    I know @Kinkstaah said the stock gtt airbox is limiting but I might just have to do that to avoid a defect so it atleast looks legit. Or an enclosed pod so it’s hidden away and feed air from the snorkel and below Intercooler holes like kinstaah mentioned. Hmm what to do
