I got federal Evos on the front for Drift.

I think Federal RPMs are the ones you want though, you want a slight stretch too to help keep the tyre stable while drifting which helps with steering definition.

Pretty sure federal rpm's are for your nans Astra, comfort street tire. The rs-r's are their flagship performance road tire. Not their semi, that's the Z something

Thanks for the replies. I reckon we'll just shim it up and see how it goes, its cheap so if we don't like it we can always look at other options and we're not really out of pocket. We're thinking of giving it about 3mm of preload as well.

The only reason I was thinking of running semi's on the front is because we already have some Dunlop 03G's, otherwise I probably wouldn't bother. I was wondering initially if they would have trouble getting up to temp but after thinking about it, from the couple of times I've been to Baskerville they seemed to work OK from cold. I guess the main thing I'm concerned about is how quickly they will wear, so how much do fronts wear when drifting?

i used to run Semis on the front when drifting. it all depends on the pressure you run. i ran yogies A048s and they were grate. i ran some dunlops once and they were horible. had no feed back through the wheel and understeered like crazy. if you start the pressures high they grip well. only time they are rubbish is when they go off after neumerous runs. happened at power cruise. hot day and multiple laps non stop.

when i was competing i never had issues with understeer but many of my compeditiors did.

as time has gone on ive since gone back to plane old 595ss as. with decent car setup for drift under steer isnt an issue but i wanted "slip" in the front to carry angle for longer. the tyres look like hell after a good day of draging.

in sumary. if you have them they will be better your average tyre. if they dont seem to be getting hot put more pressure in them.

I don't know from experience or anything close to it :P but wouldn't it be pretty damned hard to get them up to a good working temperature at the start of the runs, giving you less traction than normal?

Maybe someone like Djrift or zoid (or anyone with drift experience) could confirm?

yes i've tried it , no i wouldnt reccomend . was on a 32 4d , would have no front traction on entry then bite really hard mid corner!

Yeah man not on the road but got it fired up late sunday arvo. Spent two days diagnosing why it wouldn't fire turns out I needed to remove the injector resistor pack with ID1000's. Got to tidy up a few loose ends this weekend and hopefully book it in to get a run in tune in the next few weeks.

Hit me up for the cheapest prices on Federal RSR "semi slick" on 0409 631 092, or for any of the more street federals or kumhos. I wouldnt run a sticky dunlop soft racing semi slick on the front for drifting because you want some slip, but federal RSR is perfect, as shown by the huge number of people using them for it. I can also hook you up on federals and other varietys for the rear :)

Unless your pushing well over 300rwkw I wouldnt be looking to upgrade to GTR rear axles/diff/etc, Shim the diff really tight and dont look back, mine and all of the cars i have done are basically locked but still allow the diff to slip before the axle will break, and personally I wouldnt have it any other way

Diff came out Thursday night, shimmed it up Friday and went back in today. It had 2.2mm preload already, upped that to about 2.8mm. Haven't taken it for a test drive yet, will probably go for a quick squirt tonight.

Yeah ideally we would have liked to go a little more but we had a 1.4mm shim available to us, it had 1.4 and 0.8mm already in there so we just replaced the 0.8 with another 1.4mm. It had only just started to one wheel a bit so I reckon this should be enough.

got a few ods and ends sorted over the weekend

finally got around to replacing my Vac lines, had a few start to melt yonks ago at basky.

dropped my subframe down pulled the calipers off and shocks out and cut the top out of the rear of the subframe bushes and hard mounted it to the car, aluminim subframe lock rings in the front and on the bottoms. altered the antisquat (and a tiny roll centre change) by around 7mm or there abouts. wont go spacing the front down to take anymore out til i drive the thing

today i tracked down some condute at good ol superchoip, got the loom from front to back of the car covered and secured and looks nice and tidy now. also did the boot wiring to the tail lights and fuel pumps/relays etc, much neater.

got the rear diffuser/air guide measured out and planned, will pick up the ally this week to start that

started painting my surge tank and tank/pump base plate, that will soon wear the rising sun, to match the cam/valley covers

list is getting smaller! =)

Good work there Jack good to see it's getting a bit of attention again. Wont be long and I'll be bugging you to come to Basky every 5-6 weeks lol. I got a bit done on mine over the weekend trial fitted my half finished splitter and started making a catch can/radiator overflow (well cutting it out so Jack can make it lol) oh and I broke another thermostat housing and hacksawed my thumb..... :angry:

and yes basky every 5-6 weeks is fine by me! spent the last 12 months preparing for that shit

todays efforts.. Half completed rear diffuser/air guide. Still. Need to make the small section on the passenger side of the exhaust and the batman fins but the hardest part is done.

    • It would be well worth deciding where you want to go and what you care about. Reliability of everything in a 34 drops MASSIVELY above the 300kw mark. Keeping everything going great at beyond that value will cost ten times the $. Clutches become shit, gearboxes (and engines/bottom ends) become consumable, traction becomes crap. The good news is looking legalish/actually being legal is slighly under the 300kw mark. I would make the assumption you want to ditch the stock plenum too and want to go a front facing unit of some description due to the cross flow. Do the bends on a return flow hurt? Not really. A couple of bends do make a difference but not nearly as much in a forced induction situation. Add 1psi of boost to overcome it. Nobody has ever gone and done a track session monitoring IAT then done a different session on a different intercooler and monitored IAT to see the difference here. All of the benefits here are likely in the "My engine is a forged consumable that I drive once a year because it needs a rebuild every year which takes 9 months of the year to complete" territory. It would be well worth deciding where you want to go and what you care about with this car.
    • By "reverse flow", do you mean "return flow"? Being the IC having a return pipe back behind the bumper reo, or similar? If so... I am currently making ~250 rwkW on a Neo at ~17-18 psi. With a return flow. There's nothing to indicate that it is costing me a lot of power at this level, and I would be surprised if I could not push it harder. True, I have not measured pressure drop across it or IAT changes, but the car does not seem upset about it in any way. I won't be bothering to look into it unless it starts giving trouble or doesn't respond to boost increases when I next put it on the dyno. FWIW, it was tuned with the boost controller off, so achieving ~15-16 psi on the wastegate spring alone, and it is noticeably quicker with the boost controller on and yielding a couple of extra pounds. Hence why I think it is doing OK. So, no, I would not arbitrarily say that return flows are restrictive. Yes, they are certainly restrictive if you're aiming for higher power levels. But I also think that the happy place for a street car is <300 rwkW anyway, so I'm not going to be aiming for power levels that would require me to change the inlet pipework. My car looks very stock, even though everything is different. The turbo and inlet pipes all look stock and run in the stock locations, The airbox looks stock (apart from the inlet being opened up). The turbo looks stock, because it's in the stock location, is the stock housings and can't really be seen anyway. It makes enough power to be good to drive, but won't raise eyebrows if I ever f**k up enough for the cops to lift the bonnet.
    • There is a guy who said he can weld me piping without having to cut chassis, maybe I do that ? Or do I just go reverse flow but isn’t reverse flow very limited once again? 
    • I haven’t yet cut the chassis, maybe I switch to a reverse flow. I’ve got the Intercooler mounted as I already had it but not cut yet. Might have to speak to an engineer
