Hi all,

I was browsing through amaya, looking at some prices of supras when I spotted this car:

Looking at the pictures, I recognised this car somewhere else... and yes I did.

Look familiar? Look at the registration plates.. then compare the ODOs on both cars...

Not to mention the inflated price tag!

PMS isnt the supplier - Geoff advertises cars from a number of Japanese suppliers. He has no control over what the suppliers are doing with the cars.

It really is the Japanese export industry that needs to clean up it's act but it wont happen because there are enough uneducated people willing to buy 15 year old cars with 40,000km on them.

^^^ thats true BUT!!!

why not go to another supplier then, if he knows this is happenin and customers are complaining..

Better yet!!! Why not write somewhere on the page that BEWARE, a few problems may arise such as rust.. hmm then again, no one would buy it..

So in the end it all comes down to, how you can make money witout gettin to much into trouble..

This car was sold at an auction in Japan for - 702000 ¥ (~ 6290 $)

Geoff is selling for

$19,800 plus tyres and ORC's

included the cost of shipping, import duties, GST, compliance and our service fee in this estimate

It sold at 702,000 yen and offered for sale at 942,000 which is normal mark up for buying from stock out of Japan, but the other point is why is it listed at different klm's on the Japanese suppliers web site but it was listed at "Run (ths km): 131" on the auction sites.

Feel free to check out the other offerings from the same supplier whose cars J-Spec cross checks before listing. Then compare em to the PMS list. (like http://www.j-spec.com.au/list/4292 and http://www.j-spec.com.au/list/4219 and http://www.j-spec.com.au/list/4215 and http://www.j-spec.com.au/list/4175 and http://www.j-spec.com.au/list/4159 and http://www.j-spec.com.au/list/4160 ) ... I think that's enough to prove my point :)

The issue has already been brought up with the supplier and they've besically passed the buck around and not taken any responsibility for it.

I guess they're just trying to justify that if the odo reads less they can charge more for the car. The best that can be done is to inform potential buyers, but you can't argue about the price they want as it is their property and they can ask whatever they want for it, regardless of what it sold for at auction.

I have personally used Motorworld twice and found them to be great.
Tony was just one sales guy at motor world, if he no longer works there it really makes no difference at all. I bought two great cars from motor world I will vouch for them.
I am one to vouch for motorworld i found there service great ... none the less im sure the rest of there staff are just as nice

Yes Geoff could do more research into it but he cannot control suppliers. If he put more pressure on suppliers by not buying cars from known bad suppliers (those who wind back every odo they get) then maybe something could happen. I dont see this happening though as the particular suppliers he works with have large number of cheap and nasty cars which sell quickly due to their low price. People think they get bargains.

In other words, things work fine right now, with only a couple of complaints every now and then, so why change? I think its wrong too but thats life in this fairly dodgy end of the import business.

I think what he needs to do is insist that his suppliers supply auction sheets for every advertisement Geoff puts on his website which are displayed for everyone to see along with the photos he already has.

considering his service is to assist buyers source vehicles from 'reliable suppliers', as quoted on his website. i think it is disappointing that he does not take a more active role in sorting out the reliable from the unreliable suppliers, especially since there is another post about someone having problems with a car they have imported.

one of the principle arguements of ending the 15 year old rule was because of the quality of the cars being imported. considering he was soo opposed to the ending of the rule, and then to continue to advertise cars from unreliable suppliers...

so, as it has always been said...caveat emptor, because it seems nobody else will be looking out for you...except maybe your friends on sau.

hi all,

i have been interested in importing a car for a few months now. im currently on a mailing list and have been watching a few cars with some great interest. i would like to give a big thumbs up to Obaybe for spotting the inconsistencies. thankfully i haven't made a purchase, and will definatley be choosing who i go through wisely. now i know why many of the cars on the prestige site have their number plates blacked out.

They will never post the auction reports as a lot of people wouldnt buy cars from them, a few accident/very untidy/rusty cars will make people think twice about using them.

Talk to a few workshops and ask them what different supplyiers are like before you make a decision.

They are car dealers in another country and people need to remember that.

I got the auction report with my car, unfortuanetely i couldn't read it properly till a little later so i was only able to translate and understand a bit, my car ended up having the radiator support cut so that had to be replaced, it wasn't mentioned, and i was annoyed with that, but the other stuff that came with the car, i think it was a fair price, would've been nice to know though.

am i missing something? both links show 131k km, not sure what the problem is. as for the price, he can charge what he likes. the rest is up to the potential buyer.

It has been updated as one broker and the auctions had it at 131,000 klm and two other sites had it at 60,000 klm.

    • Must have been an absolute nightmare to drive when the power steer was out, the rack ratio/wheel size/caster is all set up for power assistance

    • I checked the injectors again (1 and 2, since they’re easiest to access) to make sure they weren’t clogged. Even though the entire fuel system had been cleaned, I wanted to be certain. Everything looked clean, so I reinstalled and connected everything. When I started the car to confirm everything was okay, it immediately revved up high, so I shut it off straight away. I checked to see if I’d missed a vacuum hose or something, but everything was connected. On the second attempt, the car ran without the high idle, but I noticed a distinct “compressed air” sound coming from the engine bay. Tracing the sound, I pushed injector #6 forward slightly and the noise stopped — it turned out it wasn’t seated properly, despite the fuel rail being bolted down. While holding it in place, the car idled steadily without stalling and ran for over 5 minutes. At this point, I pulled all six injectors out just in case I hadn’t seated them correctly or dirt had gotten onto the O-rings. Unfortunately, I discovered that I had damaged 3 out of 6 injectors (the OEM 270cc ones) during installation. So yes, this was my fault. Since only the pintle caps were damaged, I’ve ordered a Fuel Injector Service Kit from NZEFI to refurbish them. In the meantime, I reinstalled my new injectors – the car now idles fine for over 15 minutes without stalling. I have not attempted to drive it so far. It’s not perfect yet, as it hesitates when the throttle is pressed, but it’s a big improvement. Unplugging the IACV with the new injectors idles at around 800rpm, even with the IACV screw tightened fully. But this is probably due to tune.
    • I wanted to try and preserve the front bumper as long as possible, they're not cheap and are made to order in Japan. Taking inspiration from my previous K11 Micra build where I made an undertray for the Impul bumper, I did the same for this BN Sports bumper but a little slimmed down.  This time round I only made a 'skid plate' (if that's the correct wording/term) for just the bumper surface area, the Micra version covered the gap like an undertray. Starting off with a sheet of mild steel approx. 0.9mm thick 4ft x 2ft in size. I traced around the bumper, cut it out and cleaned the edges. Luckily I was able to get two halves from one piece of metal In the video I installed it as is, but I've since then I've removed it to spray and add a rubber edging trim. The rubber trim is suitable for 1-2mm and it's a really nice tight fit. The bolts had to be loosened due to the plates being too tight against the bumper, the trim wouldn't push on I used some stainless M6 flat headed bolts for a flusher finish (rather than hex heads poking down), I believe this style fastener is used for furniture too incase you struggle to source some. The corner's are a little wider, but this may be an advantage incase I get close to bumping it  The front grill got some attention, finally getting round to repairing it. Upon removal one fixing pulled itself out of the plastic frame, one side is M8 that fixes inside of the frame, where as the other side is M5. Not knowing I could get replacements, I cut down an M8 bolt, threaded it inside the frame along with a decent amount of JB Weld.  The mesh was replaced to match the bumper. One hole on the bonnet/hood had to be drilled out to 8mm to accommodate the new stud, once the glue had set it could be refitted. I think the reason the grill was double meshed was to hide the horn/bonnet latch (which makes sense) but I much prefer it matching the bumper Bumper refitted and it's looking much better IMO The Youtube video can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bVZP35io9MA

There's nothing wrong with having coloured silicone hoses, but I realise as I'm getting older I prefer monotone engine bays with a splash of colour on the engine cover(s). I cover this in a lot more detail in the Youtube video, so unfortunately there's limited photos of the process. The intercooler, upper radiator, boost vacuum and upper breather hoses were all changed to black silicone with mikalor clamps. The only blue left is a blanking cap at the back of the inlet manifold and the GReddy pulleys (which will be replaced for stock when the cambelt gets replaced) While the intercooler pipes were off I gave them a quick clean/polish too A before photo I do have a replacement air filter on its way.
