OK, I've recently decided that although i'm totally happy with my R33 and have absolutely no need for a second car (let alone a petrol guzzling 2 tonne V8 boat), I want a Toyota Celsior.

After searching through a heap of sub par VIP jap Celsiors and stocker local LS400's, I've found this Celsior in Melbourne which is pretty much exactly what I had in mind and looks to be the cleanest inside and out I've seen. Will be going to take a look at it on Sunday.

My question is, does anyone have any advice as to what to look out for with these cars? Also what is it worth in your opinion?

I've read through a heap of info and apparently the 1uz V8 is pretty indestructible, but the factory air suspension and front ball joints are possible weak points (damn expensive too). Leather is in awesome condition, only minor wear on the drivers seat bolster.

Any help is much appreciated.

Cheers!

are they the 20b rotary coupe things? don't see many of them around.

not real big on the styling, and the toyota v8 sounds awesome. i looked at q45 infiniti's too but you get so much with the celsior, and they look better.

Yeah 20b rotary coupe.

Where abouts in Melb are u?

Have u checked out some of the importers that specialise in 15yo imports, they have HEAPS of Celsiors, Cosmos etc.

always wanted a nice pimpy VIP celsior...

dunno if id pay 16k for that one... actually i know i wouldnt.

but seeing as theyre not importable anymore then i spose theres not much choice.

ask Shan if he knows anyone with one for sale for under 16k.

yeah was basically going in to it looking at a figure more around the 12k mark if it was in great condition. it's not that far from stock other than the mild kit and susp controller.

every single celsior i've seen for sale since the end of the 15 year rule (and probably during) has been massively overpriced seeing as though the majority were brought in for well under 10k.

but as i said, should probably make a judgement after seeing it's condition in the flesh and what will need to be fixed.

Most of the guys at j-spec (other than me) own a celsior as their daily's. A car like the one you posted will cost you maybe 10,000 to 12,000 on the road. For 16k you'll get like one with plastic wrappers still on the seats. We still get the odd one or two from our suppliers with the papers and everything so it can be imported. The only time the prices are inflated is after the car lands in the country, so its still dirt cheap to get one from Japan.

Danny (Autotrust on the forums) landed a Celsior from japan, and its sooo clean its unbelievable. Like the leather's still plush and hardly sat in. Its a C Type F Package, which is the model that comes with the massage seats for the passengers, seat warmers all around, cassete player for the rear passengers, and electric everything you can imagine.

The one in your pic is like a lesser model (ie its not the shizzle you wanna be seen in by your nizzles)

thanks funky. maybe i should just try and find a nice maxima with hydraulics instead :)

wasn't sure if this one was an f-package or not, so thanks for clearing that up (another couple of bucks off the price)

from what i remember i think the guy who own's that car is the engieener of karizma in abbotsford. cause i seen the guy roll up in that car when he had 2 fix seatbelts in my mates car.

yeah pretty sure he is involved in importing somehow, so you're probably right.

yeah u want something like Craigs lol

THATS pimpin ;)

lol, yeah pretty crazy that thing. had a quick chat at the show and shine

    • Update 4: Hi all. The car drives again! Haven't driven for long, only to store it in the garage again, but the test drive was successful. The coolant and oil leaks seem to be fixed for now. Temps on the engine were also very good, while moving I never even saw 80C water during the approx. 30 minute drive. Ate up all the coolant in the reservoir though so will have to fill that even more when I go to the car next time. One thing that pisses me off is that the RPM gauge is still f**ked, I even resoldered the board twice and used copper paste on the silly screws that are used as connections. Next time I take it out I'll take apart the board and fit new components, I'll see if I can get a replacement IC for it.  I have an appointment set for 22nd of September for the engine tune to 370hp. Alignment also still needs to be done. My hope is that I can get all the legal stuff over with by the end of this season. Anyone of you have advice regarding intercoolers? Currently there is an APEXI core fitted, one of those weird hybrid ones, 600x270x76. I don't think it's bad but it's not new and now I still have the chance to change it now to legally include it in the paperwork. Only issue is that the only options that would arrive in time are a HKS Type R intercooler or generic Ebay spec intercoolers comparable to a JustJap one. Ideally I'd order a Plazmaman but it takes over a month to receive which would mean making the car legal has to wait until next season. Would love to hear some input on this. Same story for my injectors, the previous owner was a nunce and put ID 1050x on the engine. They work but are obviously not ideal at "normal" power levels. But I don't see a reason to change them unless the tuner says it's necessary. I read online before buying a different exhaust that the top secret style rear diffusers won't fit due to the size of the rear resonators. My buddy and I made it work by slightly "adjusting the shape" of the mounting bracket and making some spacers out of 3d print for the mounting bolts. Fits like a charm. Just putting this here in case someone has this problem. Even the hefty HKS Silent Hi Power rear can fits without hitting anything.
