They will probably release information slowly. Things like transmission options (Sequential? Manual?) and engine configuration (V6? V8? Capacity?) will be confirmed soon. And I think the power output of the engine and price will be the last things to be confirmed.

Apparently some sources say it will be a twin-turbo 3.7L v6 that puts out more than 335kw, with a seven speed sequential manual.

However this is all rumours.

Also the four exhaust pipes coming out the back suggest it will be a v8. But really its anyones guess I suppose.

The full specs will probably be released a lot closer to the release date to continue to build the hype.

last to be confirmed... but probably early to be estimated? who remembers when bugatti said their veyron would be 1000hp, then they went into the development of it and realised 1000hp was hard to achieve when their engines kept melting

I heard the engine is actually good for over 1300hp, but the cooling system alone saps about 300hp of the engine's power just to run it.

And what's the deal with this 4 tail pipes meaning it's a V8? That's the stupidest shit I have ever heard! BMW M3 has 4 tail pipes and is a straight six. Mercedes SL65 has 4 tailpipes and is a V12. And many V8s only have a single exhaust. The Mazda 6 has twin exhausts, I could put twin tip mufflers on each and give it 4 tail pipes, and that's only a 4 cylinder!

OMFG LOOK!!!! IT'S A V8 MAZDA 6!!!!

So I dont think we can speculate on engine configuration based on the number of tail pipes alone.

Well thats the biggest overreaction I've ever heard. :O

I just thought I'd mention it as a possibility. I never said it would be a v8. Perhaps I worded it incorrectly which suggested this.

I have read an article which suggested it may be a v8 due to the four tailpipes. I assumed since this was a motoring journo with many years experience he would have some idea what he was talking about. I didn't really think too much into what he had to say but offered it as just a small piece of input to balance against the unconfirmed reports that it will be a v6. You seem as though you were almost offended by this comment.

You say many v8s have a single exhuast. Wtf has that got to do with anything? So should I also jump to conclusions and believe you are implying that if the gtr was a v8 it would have a single exhaust? That is the stupidest shit I've ever heard!

See, jumping to ridiculous conslusions is quite moronic.

Unfortunatley as you would know I and just about everyone else on this website have only seen photos of the new GTR so both you and I can only speculate on what we hear from the motoring journos who have the privledge of actually seeing this thing in the flesh.

If you just felt the need to express frustation of some sort than go ahead. But perhaps make your own thread for flaming.

Hahaha sorry Shyster, didn't mean to get you worked up! :P It wasn't anything personal against you I assure you. I was merely stating my opinion that you cannot predict engine specs based on the number of tail pipes. Guess I got a bit carried away, but it was all in fun and nothing I said was in anger. :) Plus I've heard motoring journalists say some stupid stuff before, so I never fully beleive their predictions. :(

Its all good mate. Maybe I was the one that got a bit carried away.

Yeah I guess I've heard motoring journos talk some shit before as well. :) A mate of mine used to be one.

its gonna be a twin turbo v6 based on the 350z engine says an article in todays paper. it wont be realised until 2007 or later here in australia but were definalty getting it :( dunno about capacity thought heard it was 3ltr..... with ova 355kw at the engine i guess.... the article about it was in todays carsguide, its got a huge picture of it cant miss it!!!

P.S its not gonna be a v8 nissan said it was to heavy and mucked up the wieght balnce or sumthin like that....

hope that helped

Since the 350Z is 3.5 litres, V6, 206 rwkw, RWD and 6 speed, the GTR will have to go somewhat better than that. My guesses;

* Between 3.0 and 3.6 litre V6 with at least 300 kw

* To do that it will need a turbo or two, I reckon 2 (GTR history)

* It won't NEED a 7 speed, but they might give it one just to bump the spec up

* With 300 +kw I don't think RWD will do the job, so I reckon 4wd is the go.

* Light weight (well lighter than the R32/33/34), so lots and lots of alloy, bonnet, boot, guards, suspension etc

* Some functional carbon fibre bits, front spoiler extension, rear wing and diffuser

* Two trim specs, spartan for racing and luxury to justify the price.

Them's my guesses.

 cheers

i thought in Japan they had restrictions, cannot produce more than 208KW factory

It was 206kw. It was only an agreement between japanese car companies, it was not a law.

They are throwing this out the window with the new gtr though.

Also it was a bit of a joke anyway, since the gtr has always been over 206kw. They have just said it was 206kw to pretend that they weren't breaking the agreement.

I remember when Wheels (or was it Motor? It was ages ago now...) tested the R34 GTR N1. They ran 0-100 in 4.4 and the 1/4 in 12.6 if I remember rightly.

206kw my ass :D

EDIT: (Maybe 206kw at the wheels...)

I read recent article that they are going to abolish that 206kw thingy...

and sumwhere else that the GTR is to be v8....

they are moving from turbotech to v8s now.....

quite the opposite to Commodores and Fords, start to produce XRturbos...

Yeah I read something similar where they compared it to a HSV GTS. I think it was in motor. They put it on a dyno and I can't remember what it got but i think it wasn't far off the GTS's 300kw.

I think Nissan is allowing rumors to abound as to keep their competitors guessing. The other Jap companies were clamoring all over themselves to get the specs on the Z32 and Z33 when they came out.

How lame is this blatant copy of the GTR Proto's front end!!

    • The average previous owner for these cars were basically S-chassis owners in the US. Teenagers or teenager-adjacent. I often tell people that neglect is easier to fix than something that was actively "repaired" by previous owners.
    • Update 3: Hi all It's been a while. Quite a lot of things happened in the meantime, among other things the car is (almost) back together and ready to be started again. Things that I fixed or changed: Full turbo removal, fitting back the OEM turbo oil hardlines. Had to do quite a bit of research and parts shopping to get every last piece that I need and make it work with the GT2860 turbos, but it does work and is not hard to do. Proves that the previous owner(s) just did not want to. While I was there I set the preload for the wastegates to 0,9bar to hopefully make it easier for the tuner to hit the 370hp I need for the legal inspections that will follow later on. Boost can always go up if necessary. Fitted a AN10 line from the catch can to the intake hose to make the catchcan and hopefully the cam covers a slight vacuum to have less restrictive oil returns from the head and not have mud build up as harshly in the lines and catch can. Removed the entire front interior just shy of the dashboard itself to clean up some of the absolutely horrendous wiring, (hopefully) fix the bumpy tacho and put in LED bulbs while I was there. Also put in bulbs where there was none before, like the airbag one. I also used that chance to remove the LED rpm gauge on the steering column, which was also wired in absolute horror show fashion. Moved the 4in1 Prosport gauge from sitting in front of the OEM oil pressure gauge to the center console vents, I used a 3D printed vent piece to hold that gauge there. The HKB steering wheel boss was likely on incorrectly as I sometimes noticed the indicator reset being uneven for left vs. right. In the meantime also installed an airbag delete resistor, as one should. Installed Cube Speed premium short shifter. Feels pretty nice, hope it'll work great too when I actually get to drive. Also put on a fancy Dragon Ball shift knob, cause why not. My buddy was kind enough to weld the rust hole in the back, it was basically rusted through in the lowermost corner of the passenger side trunk area where the wheel arch, trunk panel and rear quarter all meet. Obviously there is still a lot of crustiness in various areas but as long as it's not rusted out I'll just treat and isolate the corrosion and pretend it's not there. Also had to put down a new ground wire for the rear subframe as the original one was BARELY there. Probably a bit controversial depending on who you ask about this... but I ended up just covering the crack in the side of the engine block, the one above the oil feed, with JB Weld. I used a generous amount and roughed up the whole area with a Dremel before, so I hope this will hold the coolant where it should be for the foreseeable future. Did a cam cover gasket job as the half moons were a bit leaky, and there too one could see the people who worked on this car before me were absolute tools. The same half moons were probably used like 3 times without even cleaning the old RTV off. Dremeled out the inside of the flange where the turbine housing mates onto the exhaust manifolds so the diameter matches, as the OEM exhaust manifolds are even narrower than the turbine housings as we all know. Even if this doesn't do much, I had them out anyways, so can't harm. Ideally one would port-match both the turbo and the manifold to the gasket size but I really didn't feel up to disassembling the turbine housings. Wrapped turbo outlet dumps in heat wrap band. Will do the frontpipe again as well as now the oil leak which promted me to tear apart half the engine in the first place is hopefully fixed. Fitted an ATI super damper to get rid of the worn old harmonic balancer. Surely one of the easiest and most worth to do mods. But torquing that ARP bolt to spec was a bitch without being able to lock the flywheel. Did some minor adjustments in the ECU tables to change some things I didn't like, like the launch control that was ALWAYS active. Treated rusty spots and surface corrosion on places I could get to and on many spots under the car, not pretty or ideal but good enough for now. Removed the N1 rear spats and the carbon surrounding for the tailpipe to put them back on with new adhesive as the old one was lifting in many spots, not pretty. Took out the passenger rear lamp housing... what do you know. Amateur work screwed me again here as they were glued in hard and removing it took a lot of force, so I broke one of the housing bolts off. And when removing the adhesive from the chassis the paint came right off too. Thankfully all the damaged area won't be visible later, but whoever did the very limited bodywork on this car needs to have their limbs chopped off piece by piece.   Quite a list if I do say so myself, but a lot of time was spent just discovering new shit that is wrong with the car and finding a solution or parts to fix it. My last problem that I now have the headache of dealing with is that the exhaust studs on the turbo outlets are M10x1.25 threaded, but the previous owner already put on regular M10 nuts so the threads are... weird. I only found this out the hard way. So now I will just try if I can in any way fit the front pipe regardless, if not I'll have to redo the studs with the turbos installed. Lesson learned for the future: Redo ALL studs you put your hands on, especially if they are old and the previous owners were inept maniacs. Thanks for reading if you did, will update when the engine runs again. Hope nothing breaks or leaks and I can do a test drive.
    • No those pads are DBA too  but they have colors too. I look at the and imo the green "street" are the best.
