When i was an auto elec... My boss bought a 1997 r33 gtr (which was in 1999) which were worth 60k+ back then.... He got one with what i would call excessive damage (bordering a write off) for only 11.5k landed to our workshop...

He then spent about 14k on it to make it brand new again and sold it for 65k....

Hows that....

geez, how did he get the compliance for the car under the SEVs rule? i though u bring in car with accident history unless.............

thats some good business there, just feel sorry for the dude bought the car.

and sorry Dan, its my first time posting up any pics so i went into the wrong section.

true, forgot about that. as a matter of fact, there was a Blue GTR R33 sold just recently by street machine here in brisbane had a write-off history as well in japan. it got brought in b4 SEVs and that car was sold here for 43 g 4 months ago. what a rip off

Anything is repairable....

I would have bought the one we worked on....

My boss usually bought ones that had fire damage... We would re-wire them and sell for double that to a car yard...

I also remember a Mitz 3000GT bought for 7k and sold for 30k. Cost about 400 bucks in wire/tape/solder/full rewire of the engine bay and a weeks work from me (at the time a 2nd year apprentice so $300 labour).... Now thats a profit margin...

I used to love doing it cause i got to take the cars for a flogg... As a 18 year old flogging a 3000GT or a GTR round geebung... Twas sweet...

You got to remember a write off in japan is not the same as a write off here...

They will write a GTR off with minor damge....

The smash repair shop next to us used to do them in conjunction with my boss.. They would share the cost and the profit...

There were some ugly one i remember (blood/skin in the windshield) nasty....

Worse i have seen was a small sign post entered the cabin next to the ecu in the passangers foot well and speared through the passangers seat like an arrow... (no blood on this one... lucky)

alot of the street machines cars are write offs...they then paint them in a aftermarket colour and say they can custom from japan

That's Big Boys Toys standard operating procedure :(

Ever wonder why every Soarer on their lot is either orange, yellow, purple, pink or green? :D

yeah thats the same thing with street machines...every time i see a import in a strange colour i just laugh and think to myself that, that used to be a ride off

i used to work near whiteline in minto, nsw a few years ago...they are even worse, alot every customer that comes in and leaves there car is thrashed by the staff...if i ever see them doing that to my car, they would be dead...and i hate it when i hear people defend them and say they are great

yeah, ive realise that. really feel sorry for the dude who bought the written-off GTR 2 months ago for 45 or 43 gs. couldve got a lot better car.

thats y i am importing a car by myself from japan. :D

    • Yes, I know🙄 but the sequential is not in my budget... don't want to reduce power neither, so looks like I'm stuck in the rabbit hole🤣

    • So.... the K&N air box thingo was too big, ended up gifting it to a mate, well, by gifting it he actually supplied food and beer at the pub,  which was nice, as it will not sit on a shelf in the garage for the next 10 years I did trim up some of the existing stuff to neaten it all up and gave it some wrinkle paint, unfortunately it currently has a used and abused mish mash of different types of hose clamps, 4 big fat T bolt type (shit), and a few normal clamps of vairing sizes and brands, but..... only until the 6 constant tension black worm clamps that I ordered from EFI solutions turn up next week Currently the current hose clamps are triggering me hard, LOL Is this the final version, probably not, I really want just 2 silicone pieces, a straight bit of silicone from the filter to the MAF is easy and will happen as soon as I head into Just Jap tomorrow, the problematic part is a 30° silicone bend from the MAF to the TB that I can connect the engine breather from the head, I found that there are bulk head fittings for boat bilge pumps that should work, but until I can get a 30° silicone bend the alloy pipe, and the 11ty thousand hose clamps, are there for the foreseeable future 4 hose clamps are golden, 6 are grudgingly acceptable, the 8 currently holding it all together is just taking the piss    I've also ordered 60 more retaining wall blocks for the front yard, I mis-gonculated the height that was required to get above the base of the Photinia's (red robin's) that are the hedge behind the front fence, currently it is 2 blocks high, and about 1/2 a block short, so going 3 blocks high will be above the base of the red robin's, and allow some room for mulch
