ok heres the deal i beleive the car im getting from Japan has an aftermarket exhaust system but i want to get a new one for it when its here in Aus. I know there are tonnes of threads on this shit, but its mostly diff questions... I think :D

Q1:Im tossing up whether its worth going an Aftermarket Exhaust system or go to ET(or other SA exhaust specialists) and get a custom done? i know customs are cheaper, but performance and sound wise what are these like?

Q2: Does having an extra 50mm in length from the 4 doors, cause any trouble with aftermarket exhausts fitting wise?

Q3: I am wanting to have about 150 to 170rwkw as a goal, what is recomended to get done to the exhaust system, how much should i spend on exhaust system instead of other performance parts??

I think there is other stuff but ill put it up later.

q1: it would depend on the quality of the custom system obviously . a known aftermarket system is atleast proven

q2: on the r33 sedan the exhaust fits but sits foward in the rear bar . on my r34 sedan the 2door exhaust doesnt fit and had to be modified , a small section of 3inch pipe was welded into it . no big deal eitherway . even if it does fit like the r33 4 door you may want to extend the exhaust to the proper length so it looks correct .

q3: you want a full 3 inch mandrel bent turbo back exhaust , that means dump pipe , front pipe , hi flow cat converter and cat back exhaust . Additionally you want one with the straitest path and least restrictions with a sound level you can tolerate

check out justjap and their x-force exhausts , for the price they are pretty good . bit loud and droney but perform very well

cost wise full turbo back with cat should cost you 800-2000$

You are obviously looking for a mild steel for under $1000, over $1000 for stainless.

You might be able to get some jap kit for approx $1000 in stainless 2nd hand or new.

But thats always without a 3" cat.

If you only want 170 anyhow, just get it locally made from Mild Steel.

Will cost $1000 tops including front pipe and a cat, will be resonably quiet too

Yeah dude common myth that coupe exhausts won't fit 4 doors. They'll fit, it's just that there is one rubber sleeve which doesn't meet up with the 4 door. So hunt around.

I've got a custom one and with the right mods, manifold, cat etc it sounds fu&*ing SIK!

So don't fooled into spendng large amounts of $$$ for a brand name exhaust. Just got to do the right things to get the right noise!

I had D&T do my exhaust, full s/steel turbo back with a 3" s/steel tip, no milo tin style. Sleepy looking.

BUT.. They stuffed my dump pipe, the bloke who made it had NFI, he didn't stretch the pipe over the flange correctly resulting in a 10-15mm V type rise smack in front of the compressor wheel, where as it should be flat then follow the dump pipe down smoothly.. If that makes sense.

I'm taking my car back to them soon to have a s/steel center muffler fitted and the resonator removed, help quieten it down a little.

I'll also get them to do a back to back dyno run to see what sort of power drop there is. I doubt there would be much as its a nicely made 3" straight through muffler.

hmm i love the jap brand exhausts but i dont really think you budget is there for a full jap system maybe x force is the go for you, going from what ive spent on my exhaust 1000 wouldnt get close and from other friends systems too they where anywhere near 1000,

for instance just my cat back cost 950 its a blitz and its excellent the only thing i would maybe choose over it would be a trust system one of there racing ones then, you still have to add the cost of high flow cat front and dump pipe onto that!

I paid $1600 for mine. :S

Mild steel was quite a bit cheaper. There were other exhaust shops and second hand jap exhausts. The problem was I didn't like what every one else was offering.. Milo-Tins. :P

I'm having the center resonator removed and a s/steel muffler slapped in its place, $250 D&T want. Should bring it down quite nicely.

Since the slightly larger turbo went on its fairly loud, not too lound but too loud for my liking. I prefer a quiet car where I can give it stick and ppls won't instantly look over.

is there anyway of having an exhaust system that has a low db idle, but roars when u get the revs up a bit. whats the best way to get this??

Get an adjustable exhaust valve....

A'pexi ECV.

Don't know how good they are, only that they exist

Mine is very quiet on idle and light throttle.

The car next to me with the window up my car cannot be heard.

Give it a boot full and you hear a roar.

BUT its still too loud for me, I want as quiet as I can get it without causing too much of a restriction for up to 280rwkw.

Mild and s/steel also have a slightly different sound.

S/steel drones a little more, mild tends to be just that little bit quieter.

32 sedan and coupe are the same

Good brand name systems can be under 1000

check out trust and blitz systems for 800-900 at autobarn, cartoys etc.

And with that goal in mind, an exhaust will be one of the major modifications.

    • Hi, i’m making a rb25det coil loom for Vag short coil. Can anybody tell me which Ecu signal wire belong to coil number 1 and 2,3,4,5,6? The connecting switch in above pic is 8 wire i think white is for +12v and black for earth.

    • I wasn’t able to replicate the sound anymore. It was a one time sound so maybe it was just coincidence but it was like small pebbles being dropped in a coke can.   should I try cleaning the MAF? It could be it’s functioning but dirty? I don’t know.
    • Update 4: Hi all. The car drives again! Haven't driven for long, only to store it in the garage again, but the test drive was successful. The coolant and oil leaks seem to be fixed for now. Temps on the engine were also very good, while moving I never even saw 80C water during the approx. 30 minute drive. Ate up all the coolant in the reservoir though so will have to fill that even more when I go to the car next time. One thing that pisses me off is that the RPM gauge is still f**ked, I even resoldered the board twice and used copper paste on the silly screws that are used as connections. Next time I take it out I'll take apart the board and fit new components, I'll see if I can get a replacement IC for it.  I have an appointment set for 22nd of September for the engine tune to 370hp. Alignment also still needs to be done. My hope is that I can get all the legal stuff over with by the end of this season. Anyone of you have advice regarding intercoolers? Currently there is an APEXI core fitted, one of those weird hybrid ones, 600x270x76. I don't think it's bad but it's not new and now I still have the chance to change it now to legally include it in the paperwork. Only issue is that the only options that would arrive in time are a HKS Type R intercooler or generic Ebay spec intercoolers comparable to a JustJap one. Ideally I'd order a Plazmaman but it takes over a month to receive which would mean making the car legal has to wait until next season. Would love to hear some input on this. Same story for my injectors, the previous owner was a nunce and put ID 1050x on the engine. They work but are obviously not ideal at "normal" power levels. But I don't see a reason to change them unless the tuner says it's necessary. I read online before buying a different exhaust that the top secret style rear diffusers won't fit due to the size of the rear resonators. My buddy and I made it work by slightly "adjusting the shape" of the mounting bracket and making some spacers out of 3d print for the mounting bolts. Fits like a charm. Just putting this here in case someone has this problem. Even the hefty HKS Silent Hi Power rear can fits without hitting anything.
