Whos Interested In The Gt3076r/gt3037 In 52 Trim ?
Lithium replied to discopotato03's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
I thought dredging up this old thread would be the best way out pointing this "new" turbo out to see if the masses (ie, DiscoPotato...) have any say on this new thing ForcedPerformance have started playing with - their new "HTA" design turbos. Of most relevance to this thread, the GT3076HTA which claims to both spool better and pump more air than the old 56Trim GT3076R - it seems to use a 7blade 52trim 76mm wheel of some sort, which I thought is the bad juju? Its an interesting looking inducer though. Thoughts? http://store.forcedperformance.net/merchan...y_Code=Turbo-FP -
Very nice pics, and bummer to see it went wrong first time - gotta gut you. I was sure I've heard that unless you're going mental with it, theres no point doing any more than maybe a basic tidy up of the ports - no reprofiling or anything as they're so good stock. I know not everything you hear is true, but sure that I've heard that its not uncommon for RH9 cars to not have had any work done to the ports on the cars - just big cams and whatever is needed to fit them and actuate the valves correctly.

Gah wtf I'm sure I wrote more in that post. What I must have deleted was that while its a good idea, and many forums have done so - I suspect if someone isn't going to search the forum or use Google to find the information, how much of a pain in the arse would it be if people (I'd be willing to help if a team effort was going to be put together to write stuff up) never actually used the data compiled?

I suspect I'm still under that post count I got this for $350 - does anyone know if this turbo will make a decent upgrade to my old VG30 turbo (housing pictured on the left)? Will I get full boost by 3000rpm? Chur: (j/k)

Godzilla Motorsport Sets New Aust Gtr Record
Lithium replied to Swiper the Fox's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
Goddamn - congratulations!!! Awesome to hear someone getting really close to the 7s. Be neat if it gets there soon, when Heat Treatments get over there it could be a particularly epic show - may be the first time the world has seen side by side 7s from GTRs -
Nevermind, I just discovered this deserved two threads.
-
Nice numbers! What is the car/engine?
-
Looks like the next time this car runs down the 1/4 will be on Australian soil Fingers crossed you get to see some silly fast passes.
-
Not sure what their target is - I think they just reckon they can go quicker than they did and would like a mid/low 7. I guess there is the hint that people might be intending on giving them some competition so good to keep it on form haha. Lots of fun seeing it get quicker, nonetheless. Seeing a R32 GTR charge down the track in sub 8s really is a sight to behold, a lot more exciting than your typical tube RWD etc - looks a lot angrier.

Last weekend HT finally got the thing out for a meet without any niggles, and managed a 7.80 @ 182mph on its now getting old slicks. Looks like they are quickly coming to grips with the new setup, should be very interesting when they decide to start winding the power up!!

Awesome! Congrats The crystal ball has at least one new GTR (in the world) doing 7s in the next 6 months to a year... -
Thats a very nice setup man, I look forward to seeing how it comes out. Its basically what I'd like mine to end up being like - capable of a LOT of very useable power.

I put a video response on that youtube vid of my Skyline (and a mates Supra - unfortunately I don't have video editing software to remove that bit ) blatting up the road in a similar kind of way, you can hear my Garrett 56T GT3076R with .82a/r rear housing doing the same thing. Definitely has a noticeable difference in spool sound etc. Exhaust note sounds a bit different though there are a few differences in setup between mine and Jasons - one of the majors being his being tuned on 17psi with 95 octane and mine being on ~1bar on 98 octane.

T88-34d With Rb26? Much Lagier Than T04z?
Lithium replied to GreeceS13's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Given its essentially a TD08 which is an old Mitsubishi truck turbo, it fits into the same umbrella in my opinion. Even a modern Borg Warner S372 (rough equivalent to T88-34D) will be laggier than a T04Z though. Its still plain bearing, and its still bigger. -
T88-34d With Rb26? Much Lagier Than T04z?
Lithium replied to GreeceS13's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
They're both rather laggy, but the T88 is VERY laggy. You get that with a bigger turbo which is only plain bearing, and its also overkill for 440kw @ wheels. -
Good luck with that Granthem Cheers, I'd really like to think it could be done though I have never seen anyone get anywhere near that quick on street tires. I've not let anyone else drive my car, I actually done fairly well in other peoples cars though. Other people have driven my car (not experienced drag cars) and succeeded in doing impressive burnouts hahaha. Runs are that few and far between that its hard to convince yourself to give the car to someone else to have a go, especially when most of the experienced/fast guys here are running AWDs or drag radials so the launch etc isn't really comparative. Again, I know of hardly any Skylines here which have gone faster than I have on full street tires - even with more power than me. The only ones that have are trapping >115mph. If you're ever in NZ, you're most welcome to give it a shot - I'm always keen to learn haha. Otherwise, any tips on launching an R33 with a solid single plate clutch and a .82a/r GT3076R on street tires and/or drag radials please let me know The car was piece of piss to launch with the stock turbo, I just never actually managed to get to a drag meet where the track was actually dry. I got the thing down the strip with catback exhaust and pod filter (stock intercooler and boost) in 14.1 on a greasy damp track.

Maxed Out Air Flow Meter @ 170rwkw?
Lithium replied to InterCooL's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Looks like a boost leak to me. Turbo is drawing air in through the AFM but the air isn't making it to the engine as it is escaping somewhere - so the ECU is pouring fuel in to suit the amount of power you SHOULD be making/the amount of air that should be making it to the motor but since the airs not there you are just running really rich. Times like this I wish I had an AFM, as I think I *might* have a boost leak though not too sure. -
Maybe T517Zs or something of that sort.

Power Expectations Rb30det Fully Built
Lithium replied to den001's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Nice setup Sounds pretty much like you should be looking in the territory of things like a Garrett GT4294R... would be a crapload of fun with a setup like that! A guy over here in NZ with a 240Z running a built RB30/26 hybrid running a T51R-SPL making 661kw @ wheels at 7500rpm on pump gas - dyno plot here: Car has done a flat 9 @ 152mph so far on street legal tires. -
Ahh true fair enough, we're used to saying "rwkw" even for hub dynos. Anyway on a more positive note I finally have an AVC-R in the car and will be tuning it to try and give me nice flat controlled boost and HOPEFULLY will be able to get onto a drag strip this weekend While we have such experienced racers here, and talking about getting ECR33s going quicker... I've had a little bit of axle tramp issue with my car running street tires (Dunlop Sport SPMaxx) - I intend on getting subframe bushes but this whole week I've been doing other maintenence/improvement stuff like oil change/replacing rocker cover gaskets/doing plugs/getting boost control sorted and just run out of time. I've been told drag tires CAN "soak" up this problem, and have some Hoosier DOT Drag tires on offer for this meet - I don't want to race if its just going to aggrevate the axle tramp issue for fear of breaking something. Any opinions on this?

Err I don't recall ever giving you flak on your 13.4, people like you/Robo's/2Rismo I have followed the builds and progress on quite closely. You however have seemed to be pretty quick to give me flak - I remember saying (just because I was amused by it) I did similar mods to what you had and ran a 13.4 on a gtech type device, though I did have a different dyno reading to you. In regards to practice and time, where I am we are lucky to have a drag meet every couple of months - and doubly lucky to get a prepped track (actually, airstrip complete with painted markings). I'm not really too keen on practicing on the road and it tends to offer a completely different surface anyway so hardly counts. More often than not the dragstrip is slipperier. When we DO have drag meets, 3/4 runs in a day is about the usual. I practice when I can, and have very rarely been beaten by a car with similar mods when I have raced. Actually the only times I have been beaten so far have been by cars running some kind of drag radial or semi slick tire, I've never raced on drag tires. So yes you guys COULD probably go a lot quicker than me with my car or very similar if you ran my car on your track. However, if you lived in my area you'd probably be struggling to beat me unless you reckon that off the bat you'd beat someone who has been racing at that strip for 7 years now. What you guys are evidently completely useless at understanding is that a lot of the rest of the world use Dynapack dynos - which DO read higher than Dyno Dynamics dynos. What this means that you'd look stupid if you came to an area which everyone runs their cars on hub dynos and ran one of their 190kw cars, went far slower than you promised and then proceeded to say that their dyno read wrong or that the car just didn't have that power. I reckon/would like to think my car has a very low 12 or maybe an 11 in it to if I could get my hands on some drag radials and get to a drag strip - I'm hoping to have a go at it to. My 13.3 was the first time I got to the strip and I'm definitely not professing that its the quickest the car will go with the current power, I *know* there is more in it with practice.

Well Racepace have managed to effectively bait our breath, whats the story?? Is this a setup we'll be able to be told about or pay money for to get it for ourselves? Would be VERY interesting to see that car run on a hub dyno showing boost and rpm
-
You obviously missed the 9000rpm rev limit bit. Anything you can do with 2.6litres, you can do better with 2.9
-
Hmm sounds interesting. I have just bought an AVC-R and haven't yet installed it so would be interested in hearing how this works out - I've just been reading the docs to get my head around what to expect etc. Does it hold .1kg/cm2 flat more no matter what, or does it spike? So basically it just looks like its set up to run .6kg/cm or is it that it looks like its struggling to hold .5 but failing? I can't remember, if you have RPM specific duty cycles set does that override the "blanket" duty cycle setting? I guess they are probably mutually exclusive. Also, is there any adjustment on the duty cycle for each gear or anything like that? I'm pretty sure mine is going to need a reasonable amount of tinkering beyond the basic "Set boost to xxxkg/cm and use xxx duty cycle to do so" to hold boost steadily.

Man, insane results - well done There was a guy in NZ running I think low 11s (at least) with his R32 with what was rumoured to be an RB25 (or 26?) running an RD28 crank and rods and some aftermarket pistons resulting in a 2.9l. Not sure how much there is to that rumour, I've hunted around trying to find information on the parts to see if it can be or has been done and documented but to no avail.
