  1. Check group buy sections for Sydney Kid's settings for his suspension. They're recommended street settings. Or find a good suspension workshop. And search!
  2. One hand at a time on it, can't get both in there Its not lightly done up as my hands aren't that weak, and a few people have tried. Not enough torque on it, a few of the things on the car have been done up super-tight, looks like the oil filter is one of them I'm considering sticking a screw drier through it but I'm nervous about doing that
  3. Are R33 GTR xenon's (factory) good enough? Or 34's only? They're great for night driving, and the high beams look yellow compared to xenons
  4. Hey, I can get to the filter, but I can't turn it, no one who has tried so far can I need a tool to get it off, so need to find something small enough to fit into the tiny space there and still be able to turn it...I've gotten 2 oil filter removal tools in there can't turn either once it's in.
  5. Are you sure you don't just have a very tight diff? They will act like this around most corners. What happens if you put the clutch in or neutral, and take a corner pretty slow? Same locking on the corner?
  6. I've tried multi-grips but there's no room to move them, there is some parts to the right of the oil filter, to the left of it, and the transfer case or front diff just below it I know a mechanic who might have the right part to remove it, we got an oil filter removal tool that requires a socket to work, but we need a tiny rachet to be able to turn the thing. Screw-driver idea, yes....but what if I can't get the damn thing off properly? Then I'm really stuck so I'm avoiding that idea... Back on the oil cooler, I'll definitely try to do the install, I'm looking at this kit in the group buy section: http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/Oi...it-t228939.html Oil-filter relocation, yes, I'll see where it can go, there's some room around, just not a lot of room Yes stock cooler pipes, aftermarket radiator, do people still recommend the RHS guard on GTR's? RacePace recommended the LHS guard on a GTR but I'm unsure if the kit will have long enough lines for the LHS guard.
  7. Hmm, yes it might be easier after I get this weird oil filter off, I can get my hand on it but cannot turn it. The oil filter I have on there is very strong, about 1/2 or 1/4 the length of a Z145A filter, and its black in colour with some writing on top starting with "A", tried a couple oil filter wrenches but can't get any of them in there properly to remove it. I'm looking around at different kits, currently checking out the "permacool" kit in the group buy, and some second hand Greddy/HKS kits. I've heard that the preferred mounting in an R33 GTR in LHS of the front bar, which I assume will be quite hard to do. The other problem is my car will likely cost more than the estimate due to all the aftermarket parts sitting near the oil filter, currently there's no room to mount an oil filter near the drivers side strut tower I might have to try it myself as it can't be that hard.....or can it
  8. Can't seem to edit my posts anymore Anyway, how long are the lines for the kit? I've just read that people mount oil coolers in the LHS of the bar for R33 GTR's because of the BOV's been near the right one...
  9. Nice, but my current filter is about half or a quarter the size of a Z145A and I can't seem to remove it, its some weird black filter. Once I finally get the damn thing off I'll start looking at relocation and cooler kits, current install price is looking like $400 unless I do it myself or find a cheaper mechanic
  10. Sorry, should have mentioned the main purpose of the oil cooler install is oil relocation kit, attempts to change the oil filter are absolute hell on an R33 GTR, and I have a weird looking oil filter on there too.... But the cooler is for the track sooo I'd love to put one in
  11. Hey, Was making some inquiries about getting an oil cooler installed on an R33 GTR. So far its going to cost $400 at one place, and another recommended a custom setup that would be about ~12-1500. Is $400 a fair price for the installation? I know its very hard and not something that I think I can complete at home Regards, Gareth
  12. Plenty of jobs that are outside programming, you will touch on programming occasionally, or at least scripting, but there are plenty of jobs where its not your main role A lot of the administrative style jobs are like this, windows admins, web support roles, linux admins, database admins, middleware work... Have a look around, you might have to go into service desk to build up some basic customer service and trouble shooting skills and move on from there. I know that people usually do service desk and then get secondments to other parts of the business after some time depending on the company...
  13. Interesting point of view, and apologies for hi-jacking the thread, I found that coming from a partially linux background, partial windows background I tend to solve problems on both systems in a similar way. I've adapted most of my linux tools to windows, and I try to do it the other way around in some cases. Eg. sysinternals (which was bought out by Microsoft) has great tools such as something to watch every registry access and file access of a particular process, in Linux you can do this but I haven't found a good tool for it (yet). There is also some great things in the Windows resource kits, so I can, for example, script file system or registry changes to multiple boxes, this is also possible in Linux (as in file system permission changes), and extremely easy on one box a little more challenging on multiple boxes. Personally I prefer Linux, but as far as the administrative work I do, the line is getting more blurred on what I can't do in one system OR is easier to do in one system Best of luck with the job, learn what you can, problem solving and soft skills the incredibly useful to businesses
  14. Haha, not sorted yet, I think there's something custom down there, I know there's oil restriction lines but I *think* the oil filter is standard, haven't been able to get it off yet. I made some inquiries about getting an oil cooler installed but I'm looking at around $400
  15. Interesting, I'm aware of quite a few larger companies who have a lot of linux and windows servers. Linux does a lot of the major web serving, application serving and proxy servers for us. However Windows is heavily used as well, mainly Windows Server 2003. Learning Linux is a *good* thing, as is getting some knowledge of Windows server products. Linux will teach you a lot about operating systems in general, and can help you learn some trouble shooting skills. Although, depending on what your aiming for there is a lot of other things you might like to learn... I read the first post and the thread seems a little lost by now, I can't really seem what the poster is really looking for, a "system admin" role. Windows admin? Linux admin? Network admin? Firewall admin? Consultant? Its a big field
  16. Oh I completely mis-interpreted, you mean a thermostat that will prevent the oil flowing through the cooler when cold. I somehow read your original post as a place to put a thermostat in. lol. Can you PM me a quote for the oil cooler + thermostat sent to Vic?
  17. Sure, if you get stuck PM me, once I get the oil change done I usually take the car out most weekends.
  18. I'd recommend Andrew's cat's Just be careful which exhaust shop you get to do the flanges, as its not that easy to get someone to do a quality job on it...
  19. I've got the same catch can on the GTR, it looks identical If your going on the next members-only cruise then I can show you then, but it looks like you haven't joined yet...
  20. Mounting on the drivers side sounds good, I'm interested, but I need to find out how much a mechanic will charge to install it as I don't think I'll be able to do it myself (which means $$$). In regard to the inline thermostat, sure but the Greddy gauges usually have custom thermostats or at least the radiator/water temperature one is custom, so thats why I'm thinking I'd either need to put the Greddy thermostat on OR use the existing sandwich plate.
  21. You could have stated that you couldn't understand the first page, otherwise people will assume that you have just seen the thread, made no effort to read it, and asked which oil you want to run with no information about what for. A communication failure I normally put in as much effort to replying as people put into posting, but in this case I'll provide some kind of attempt at a summary with many technical errors in it Soooo, I'll try and help, I'm not an oil expert and I don't work in the industry. Basically the higher grade the oil the better, don't even think about running grade 1 (I) or 2 (II) in a Skyline, you want to run 3 (III), 4 (IV) or 5 (V). The best of these is V if you can afford it, it will cost more but its better or the car. In other words, if you have plenty of $$$ buy Motul 300V or Redline. If your not rich, then consider oils like Motul 8100, Mobil 1 or maybe even Royal Purple. Go grade 3 if you want, but its preferable if you can go grade 4... Viscosity is about temperature rating, my n00b explanation of this, as I'm in IT not the oil/engineering industries, is the lower number relates to how easily the oil can flow when cold. The higher number relates to how quickly the oil will heat up and become thinner, beyond a certain temperature, I think its above 110degrees, the oil starts to thin out due to heat. A final note is the gap between the numbers should be as small as possible, running 0w30 is better than running 10w60. In other words, if you drive you car around a track and your running 0w30, and your oil overheats then you may want an oil cooler, and to run a higher rated oil 0w40 or similar. If your driving purely street than go for a 0w30 or similar, a 0w40 won't hurt your car, but a lower spread is better (the thread explains why, I believe it relates to chemicals added to maintain the temperature range of the oil or something). Re-read this part of the first post: That's the best I can do, and there are a lot of technical errors in there, so hopefully someone can tell me whats wrong and I'll edit it when I get time
  22. True but if he's using speedo only he would need to follow for a particular distance. However, most of there cars have a built in radar or laser to check the speed of the car in front of them, so its not looking good.
  23. Read the first page summary of the thread, then READ the thread (twice if required) and then post questions
  24. Any idea what your spring rates are? If not post in the sticky section and SydneyKid will try and estimate for you If there's super hard spring rates then you will feel every bump in the road. Also which model of skyline you have will change this as well.
  25. Ah ok, $300 is a good price if it has quality fittings, there's been problems with the non-Jap kits... My mechanical knowledge is not the best I have a sandwich plate for my Greddy oil temperature gauge, and your kit doesn't have room for a thermostat to go onto it? Or will my current one not fit? Just wondering if I'm going to lose my oil temperature gauge if I use this cooler... On the Rb25/Rb30 where did you end up mounting the cooler? It fairly large so I'm just thinking where it could go, I assume you just made some custom brackets to mount it with?
