Most skylines are roughly the same if its for street driving, I'd recommend looking at the first page for a summary of group IV oils and group V oils, they are generally considered the better oils to use. The lower viscosity the better, so if you can run 0w30 or similar try run that, don't got for something like 10w40 if your car doesn't get really hot (like 105+ degrees). Personally I've tried Castrol but the American version off performancelub.com, anything besides 0w30 is not German The GTR's recommended 7.5w30 when they came out but oils have changed a lot since then. If your doing track driving my recommendations will be irrelevant to you as you'd want something with a higher temp... A minor mistake in the front page, Castrol SynTec 0w30, the German castrol is group IV. The American 5w40 or similar is group III (sometimes written as III/IV but not true group IV). Look for posts by Trex101 and khunjeng if you want to read the thread, they are the oil experts Regards, Gareth

Free Slab Of Beer For Vin Fast Run
some_cs_student replied to racin8's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
Nice, that's cool, if we meet at an SAU event I would mind a free drink, but I wouldn't be drinking a 6 pack Thanks for the offer, could luck getting that put through FAST. Your best bet may be to call anyone from spare parts at Nissan and get them to run the VIN for you, the version of FAST that was on the net a long time ago is from 2001, not many people have the new version -
I Am Desperate Now 3 Slabs On Offer
some_cs_student replied to racin8's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
Anyone trying to FAST this needs a copy from 2002 or newer! The 2001 will not work on something this new -
You Know You Drive A Skyline When .. ... .
some_cs_student replied to SAGTS-4's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
It's probably in here already, but when you call insurance companies and they refuse to cover "imports", you must be over 25 for owning a Skyline, or over 30 because you mentioned "GTR". -
Aren't most commodores single spinners? So you get this drift and sometimes it will almost seem to snap back on you when the other wheel decides to spin instead? Stick with the Silvia's, the NissanSilvia forum's are into drift ...

Hey, Really? Are you sure you did the install correctly? Here's the data I gathered off a few forum posts, I really need to add the translation section by is it chook? Anyway its rough because its my note but see if it helps. Once you do install can you FAST some VIN's please? I'm sure there are quite a few people with the software but very few who are willing to FAST vin's. skylinefastsoftware.rtf

When your car spends more time getting polished, waxed and worked on then it does on the road -
Free Slab Of Beer For Vin Fast Run
some_cs_student replied to racin8's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
Hey, Tried to run: BNR34403523 But no results, what year was the car built in? My copy of FAST is old, I think its upto October 2001, anything newer doesn't show up Also, don't N1 engine numbers all start with 24U? -
Debatable, if the transfer case is in good condition, power loss should be minimal, its heavily debated though and there have been a few topics on the forum covering this. The conclusion was its not percentage based, more like 60KW or more or less (I'll just approximate it to 60 ). And some people like DirtGarage had run RWD then AWD and lost 1KW. Others have lost more but its often different dyno or different day or et cetera....

Custom Boot Install's (any One Got Any Pic's)

R32 or R33 GTR? And did you disconnect the HICAS ECU? The tutorial explains how the installs are done in the tutorials section of this forum, R33 should not be an issue, not too sure about R32's.
-
If you have an R33, two bolts at the bottom then the bottom section of the seat slides out, you need to pull it a little bit up when you pull it out. 2 more bolts on the top section, this has to be lifted up for it to come out.
-
I've had no issues with steering in the R33, if you do lose control its much more predictable without HICAS...

Close to 1K if your getting cam gears done as well, with Racepace, I'd recommend them.

I'd be lucky to be home from work by 7:30PM, let alone at a meet point. I'll try and make it to Albert Park, depending on weather Either way have a great meet, hopefully I'll meet some of you guys tomorrow night.

Has anyone else tried the Dunlop LeMans tyres? I'm running some 235/45/17 on the GTR and they do seem to do great in the dry, and pretty good in the wet (straight line stopping was great, cornering I'm not so sure about). This is the first set of tyres I've had on the car so I can't really rate them, but the car seems to handle great in the dry with them on...

Good luck with the sale...if only I bought 12months later. The market was "bad" back then for sellers but it has gotten much worse now, high petrol prices, more emphasis on "green" cars and rising interest rates are limiting peoples spending money. There's also high insurance rates on imports which never helps and the negative attitude towards imports as "hoons" in some circumstances

Coilovers Illegel?
some_cs_student replied to POQ123's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Skylines came with coilovers from factory, I doubt the coilovers you have are illegal but check your state's law, in Vic they'd be fine if your above 100mm at all points... -
I'd agree with that, driver dynamics are great. But there is also driver training at some of the track days, the WRX club offers driver training at Calder park next event (5th July).
-
Try the back seats, I can't recall if you can remove them and get access to the boot without unbolting them from behind (its been ages since I've touched them). There is a bar running inside the boot to release it but I'm unsure if you can get to it. Have you tried the R31 Skyline Club?

Calder - Sat 5 July - Club Cship Rnd 5 - Cancelled
some_cs_student replied to Bec's topic in Archived Events
What a great price , where are you located? I was just saying *where* do you install it? Thanks Bec for the serious reply, I plan to hopefully do a track day every 6months (I hope), I'd like to do them more often but it depends on $$$ so Cams L2S might make sense, although I think I'll be entering the driver training at Calder. -

some_cs_student replied to Bec's topic in Archived Events
I'm interested in entering the driver training here, does anyone have a link to installing a fire extinguisher in an R33? Where do you mount it? I assume you can purchase the AASA license on the day? Or do I need/is it better to get a CAMS license? -
The MegaMart is a place I used to see Nissan Silvia meet at, they were *usually* ok for a while, if your going to sit there for a long time I would certainly not recommend hanging around...
