Alloy Steering Spacers
Omurru replied to Dean_HR31's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Put the spacer in my car today, on a scale of 1-10 of difficulty i'd go with a solid 9, (10 means I had to break out the angle grinder and cut stuff off). I'm an aircraft mechanic by trade so I like to think I know my way around nuts and bolts as well. Appart from the fact it's in a flamin mongrel of a spot and unless you got skinny little arms like me you'll have to do it all from the bottom, the nuts are done up god damn tight. I undid the two bolts with their heads towards the firewall and undid the spline where it goes into the rack uni so I could take the whole shaft out and do the other two bolts out of the car. It would probably be slightly easier to do from under the car as there is a little more access, you do need to get someone to hold the steering wheel though while your undoing and doingup stuff cos the lock on the 32 only engages when the wheel is straight....kinda gay. Oh and to crack the nuts stick a ring spanner on the nuts, hold it and get someone to turn the steering wheel -
S13 Powersteering Rack In R32
Omurru replied to fourdoorlove's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
From what I have been able to find an s13 rack bolts straight in but the hose fittings are different. Please elaborate on the 33 idea, haven't come across this? The reason I ask is because my powersteering rack has sprung a leak out of one of the rack ends, so it's time for something new -
I'm looking at getting adsl2+ at the moment (currentley on cable) and looking at either dingoblue or dodo (yes I know i'm ashamed). Does anybody know how the capping works with the unlimited plans on dingoblue, when you read the plan details there are all sorts of things about how torrent ports are capped at certian times etc? Anyway the reason i'm interested in dodo is for the same price as tpg the off peak times are 1am-1pm as opposed to 3am-9am with tpg....

Brake Lines, What To Do.
Omurru replied to phat_man's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Maybe you didn't understand what I was trying to say, I'll explain it a little more...The banjo's that come on the brakewest lines for the brembo calipers are square. No bolt is required with the round fittings for the sumitomo calipers, cos there not banjo's!, they have a 2 legged spring washer thing that holds them in place, and the ends of the lines screw onto the solid lines out of the guard and into the caliper I'm gonna go with FAIL again on that, there are two different calipers on these cars depending on ur model, the brembo's which use a banjo(I presume, I haven't seen, I've just seen the wrong lines I got the first time), and the sumitomo's which I do believe we are talking about here that do use a "spinning nut thingy" (because I like technical jargon) which surprisingly enough doesn't actually go into the caliper itself..... With regards to the calipers we are talking about here the flexible line doesn't actually go into the caliper it goes into a solid line that goes round to the caliper....the brake line mounting clips (i'm sorry I upset you because I didn't know the name so I just described them) mount the lines to the strut and also the ends to brackets where the "spinning nut thingy" joins up to the solid lines. I'm just gonna chuck in another FAIL here cos you did again I did and what you wrote in regards to what I said was wrong. In general yes it was correct, but with regards to the job here that actually needs to be done it was wrong. Now if YOU had ACTUALLY done this specific job you'd know you were wrong. My "belief's" come from me ACTUALLY doing this specific job on my own R32 gtst not 2 weeks ago. If you'd like I can go and take some photos to show you your wrong but considering you've done this before it should jog your memory and you'll just accept it. I like my highly technical comments and I challenge you to find one that is incorrect so your just going to have to deal with them Anyway back on track, phat_man - I changed my lines for a roadworthy and when I told them I was going to put braided ones on they said they had to have the little sleeve on them saying adr number and manafacturer approval number, weather or not they would be checked by police I doubt it, there pretty hard to even see unless ur under the car. -

FAIL! The banjo's required are square, no bolt required with the round fittings, they have a 2 legged spring washer thing that holds them in place. Yes I believe so, the 4 pot sumitomo calipers. Or you could buy the perfectley fitting, locally made, ADR approved ones for $50 less and support an australian owned business. -
I'm using falken fk425, think they were 320each for 265/35/18, so u'd think 245's would be cheaper....

Brake Lines, What To Do.
Omurru replied to phat_man's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
I bought a set of lines from brake west a couple of weeks ago for my car. Excellent quality and $250 for a set of 4 is a good price, I have the same setup as you with the 4 pots on the front, tell him you need the lines with the 4 round fittings for the fronts, he has two different lines depending on ur setup and I got the wrong ones the first time, not such an issue for me as I live in Melb but a bit of a pain if u don't. -
Been following all this in the news, the thing I like the most about it all is some of the terminology used like "street racing hoons" I remember back in the good old days when we just had hoons, now we have different types and the good old "suspected hoon drivers" as well, is it just me or is that another way of saying "anyone we like for no reason"? As to the topic at hand, pffft I don't think it really matters about the sticker on the car on the news, it's irrelevent these days with all the "hoon" propaganda weather or not u have car club stickers etc. Go take a photo of a skyline with an sau sticker on it, the cleanest stockest example you can find and go ask a 1000 people at the supermarket weather or not the person who owns this car is a hoon, i'm willing to put money down that 90%+ of people will say yes.....

King Springs In My R33 Gtr Vspec
Omurru replied to R33GOD's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
With a GTR if you lower it too much it will mess with the 4wd control, same goes for different wheel widths back to front, I am not sure of the specific's, have a search around there's plenty of info on it. I'm using custom king springs on older type apexi adjustable coilover shocks. They were on it when I bought the car but the reason the previous owner went to the king springs was because the apexi spring rates were too high. The springs themselves are very good and I haven't had any issues with them. The reasoning behind using shorter shocks with lowered springs is to make sure the shock is operating in it's optimal/correct range. If you use standard shocks with a shorter spring you'll find over time the car will develop a tendancy to bounce around as the shocks prematurley wear. on a side note, I just put HSD HR coilovers in my 32 and am very happy with the result and at $1600 there not too expensive either. -
Driver Dynamics Calder Park Trackday Saturday 8th August
Omurru replied to kevwrx's topic in Archived Events
Whats the reasoning for the race suits? Never needed one for sprint days -
Tried the 33 steering wheel today, as far as I could see the spindle is the same but the plugs for the horn are different and hence the 33 wheel won't go on the spindle because the horn plug is in the way if anyone in vic has a series 2, 32 wheel I could borrow that would be awesome!
-
Does anybody know if a 33 steering wheel fits on a 32? I need to put a stock wheel on my 32 for a roady (they don't like the aftermarket one, whole metal centre thing). I've got my GTR one at my parents house but its a bit of a waste of time going and getting it if it ain't gonna fit.
-
Need one for a roady for a couple of days, there's a slab in it for the lucky loaner Alternatively if anyone knows where I can buy one locally that would be great cos I can't find one anywhere!
-
As some of the keener people here will know I have another skyline Bought a 32gtst for a daily to replace my wikid yellow astra, just been cleaning it up a bit so I can get a roady done. Does anybody have an airbox I would be able to borrow for a couple of days when the time comes, prob won't be for a couple of weeks yet.

not looking for camber adjustable ones, the ones that are in there at the moment are corroded and need to be replaced, but the spring/shock set-up is good so dont want to replace the whole lot unless I have to.

Need to get some new strut tops for my car but having some troubles finding anything about them or even if they are avaliable? Most coilovers seem to some with new ones but I can't find anywhere that sells them separatley. Cars got older trust coilovers in it at the moment. Guess the question I am asking is are strut tops all the same or are they individual to the shock/spring assembly? and where the hell do I buy them?
