Already done...well kinda. I have made the word doc. I am gonna turn it into a PDF, and get funkymunky (?) to store the photos on SAU and I'll start a thread :headbang: I don't think I *had* to remove anything, but I did remove inlet pipe (just before throttle body) and hoses around the air regulator, it was an awkward job. If I wasnt worried about having no money for a gasket, i woulda taken the throttle body off, woulda made life a lot easier.More details in the how to when it's up. How to Doc/pdf will be up soon, and thread should be up soon. Definatly by next weekend. I am also gonna do one for the AAC. and I am gonna do one for a stereo install if it hasnt been done yet, but i would assume it has. Cheers Chris

Booster - Yeah it was kinda loose. I will give this a go. If it starts playing up again, I know the culprit(well most likely) and I'll keep your idea in mind if I need to make it tighter. I actually think the pin was in it when I pulled it apart, but the part that spins, was not in the right place. Which is why I wasn't sure if I put it together right. But it seems I have. So it somehow spun out of place, but I think the pin will hold... Cheers Chris

ok kewl. so there shouldnt be a hassle with me not re-mounting it, it should be right to just sit there Thanx

Can someone please tell me what this is? It is quite awkward de/re-attaching when removing the centre console...Just wondering if i can leave it detached Cheers Chris
-
So what was it? Did you sort it out?
-
nah it didn't need a clean. I am 99% sure that when I pulled it out it wasn't looking the way it is now (in the above pic) so I guess it was just the pin fell out...
-
yay! It was the Air Regulator. It's now idleing at 800ish. w00t I am gonna write up a tutorial on how to do it and put it in the DIY section if anyone is interested.
-
Well, I am gonna put it together like this and give it a go...can someone let me know if it's wrong please!
-
*bump* i'd luv to get this air regulator back on tonite if i can. cheers
-
ok, i have pulled the air regulator off. this is what it now looks like inside, is this right? does that spring need to go on the post in the pic? It seems right to me, except it stretched the spring to all buggary. It was in a different position when I took it off, and I can't get it back to that position (guessing that pin was out) but it's an effort to get this sucker in/out so I'd like to know it's right before I put it back together.

Well I have cleaned the plugs (couldnt afford new ones ) so I dont *think* it's them. It could be the temp sensor/thermostat, but the temp on the car seems 'normal' to me - about 1/2 way, and it takes about 2 mins of driving to get it to it.

Petrol stations, turbo timers and idiots!

you for real? you never used petrol to start a fire? it is rather flamable....diesel is not as bad, you don't lose ya eyebrows when you use diesel oh and it's not funny to put petrol on a fire without telling your mate that is lighting it. Some d!ckwad did that to a *chick* friend of mine....d1ck. -
oh, and if it is your battery like I assume, jumper cables will *most likely* NOT help. You will also need some decent (fat) jumper cables that can pull heaps of current. I havn't tired clutch starting one with these symptoms, but seriously, just take the battery to battery world and have it tested, I am quite confident it is the problem. And it's an absolute prick of a problem that had me stumped cause it had the 12v and like u say, stereo etc works great. Way I found out was rang a mate that works for NRMA, I was trying to find imobilisers etc etc, and he was like "it's the battery" seen it happen to more cars since (mine did it on saturday)

Can't find the thread with the story tho... -
it's the battery. Here's how to test. Get a multimeter and a mate Put multimeter on battery to check voltage chance are you will get...12 volts, so you will say "SEE it's not the battery" but then...get your mate to turn the engine over, if the voltage drops below 8v, your battery is cactus, take it to a battery shop and they will test it for you to be sure.....If the voltage holds at 10v+ then it is probably not ya battery, in which case...umm only think i can think of is you could tap the starter motor/solenoid, sometimes they jam up....

Well i dunno about at a servo, but I know ppl that have just finished filling their dirbike up (so from a gerry can at the track) walked about 5m away, lit up a smoke, and the vapour caught and by by bikes. it was only a few weeks old too....I will see if i can find some pics and the 'official' story to post up. BTW - I just got my first turbo, and when I got the servo I was like "hurry up and shut off so i can opent he tank" Don't some cars need the tank to be sealed or whatever so you get pressure? ie. take the cap of the tank and car wont go? -
Were you suggesting that to me or to "SkyGTRline" ? Dam hijackers making me confused *teasing*

Nope! Didn't know it existed, I will do that tonight I also should get the pipe to replace the pipe with the BOV on it, so that should also get rid of the running rich...well I am hoping anyways, one of my friends can't be in the car more than 5 mins without getting a headache from fumes...can't find any leak anywhere, and it backfires heaps, so I assume it's just rich. Thanks
-
I had a boost leak on the BOV - Gasket blew out....but that hasn't fixed the problem. I think I might have to just wait til I can afford a tune and get them to fix that at the same time
-
Hey guys, It was the BOV! It blew part of the gasket away (had to take it off to see) so it was a boost leak...it's now back to the way it was when I got it (which is still there, but only a little) I am guessing it will be totally fixed when I get the replacement pipe to ditch the BOV. Dam ricey Blitz BOV...haha Cheers Guys

I've got an L2S and plan to get some officials licensing (or whatever you define it as) member of MG Car Club Newcastle

tell her to go make lunch.
-
Thanks what about using soapy water to find the leak? can you do that?

Hey Guys, 89 GTST. I am worried my turbo is on it's way out. I only got the car from japan on Saturday, so I haven't even had it a week yet. The turbo( or so I think) has had a small whistle in it that increases as you build boost. The whistle has gradually gotten louder over the past few days. I have searched and it seems that most people think the turbo is about to throw the wheel, or it's an exhuast leak. I also have idleing problems -> http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/sh...548#post1265548 <- don't know if it would be related or not? What is my best plan of attack? How can I find an exhuast leak? Should I pull the turbo out and check it? What do I look for? Anyone have a step by step guide to getting the turbo out the quickest/easiest way? Otherwise I will just work it out myself I guess! Thanks guys Chris

took me 30 mins having no idea what I was doing.
