  1. Its not hard. First, buy the right stuff... starting with two buckets, one for water+car wash and the other for water only. Get rid of your sponges and chamois, and replace them with microfibre mitts and towels, they are much safer on black paint. Wash products arent hugely important just buy something of decent quality, i been using a lot of Bowdens Own stuff lately they have nice products, decent prices and its all locally made too Technique itself is pretty straightforward too, rinse the car, then wash one panel at a time starting from the top and working your way down. Use a separate wash mitt for lower panels and another mitt or brush for wheels, and rinse them often in the water-only bucket. When drying, i also use a light mist of quick detail spray to help remove the water and lessen the chances of scratching Have a separate drying towel for wheels and door jambs too, never mix the towels. Finally, have a pro detail the car once you buy it (full decontaminate/buff/polish/wax process), as the caryard hacks are hopeless and will create more swirls than gloss and just spread cheap oily products all over the inside and on the plastic trim outside
  2. Never had a black car but both of mine now are dark blue so its not far off in terms of time and effort. If its a daily driver, you will need to wash it once a week. The most important part with a dark car, is knowing the correct washing process. Otherwise if you stick to old school sponges, dirty buckets, wrong cleaning products and old bathroom towels, the paint will look like crap in no time You can also use a good quality quick detail spray with clean microfibre towels to clean light dust off without scratching and creating swirl marks. Its a pretty quick process but something that will need to be done a couple of times a week, and once again technique will be super important My 35 would last about 3 days of daily driving before looking dusty on dry days, but would stay cleaner on wet days due to fresh coating of wax. Also, if the paint is waxed, its much easier to clean and bird poop doesn't stick as much... oh and always be prepared for bird poop. leave it on hot paint too long and it will etch into the surface. I always carry some Autoglym bird crap wipes in the glovebox
  3. Its a bit weird, locks with the doors and stays flush with the body when unlocked. Need to push the edge near the hinge to get the other side to open up. Bit of a crappy setup tbh
  4. My bro had a similar leaking issue with a crank seal, couple of months after being replaced it started leaking again. Turns out the crank was damaged and chewing up the seal
  5. I did the calipers on my s14 with VHT caliper paint, the stuff is awesome. 5 years on, still no peeling or discolouring, plus the spray pattern is very even and doesnt splatter, unlike the cheap stuff First thing i did was strip them back with a dremel and a wire attachment, then carefully masked the pads, all the bolt heads at the back, bleed nipple, brake hose and disk/hub, plus the rest of the wheel arch and suspension. A good cleanup with wax and grease remover, then about 3 coats of silver, let it dry, followed by three coats of clear. The VHT stuff doesn't require primer and cures with the heat from your brakes Its about $20 a can so not cheap, but one can of colour and one can of clear will do the job with plenty left over, more info here - http://www.vhtpaint.com/products/caliperpaint/
  6. The Maxima's are pretty underrated and plenty of car for the money. The engine is great, plenty of room, build quality is decent and its pretty decent to drive. My mate has one with 190k on the clock and its running strong as, and I just did a service on my mother in laws car with 120k. Main troubles with them are door locks and drivers side engine mount. The front shocks will also go around 120-140k. My main complaint would be overly soft suspension though, they really need a decent spring and shock combo
  7. Yeap been there. Amsterdam is freaken awesome
  8. Euro stuff is always good. But I been liking Penrite a lot lately, my 35 loves the 10-40 everyday synth stuff for less than 50 bucks a bottle
  9. Back in stock at my local Costco in Sydney, just changed colour now
  10. Arcan jacks at Costco in Auburn for 150. Heaps here, in red now
  11. Do those wheels come with a snapback and some illest stickers??
  12. As far as I know, due to direct injection, the carbon builds up in the intake manifold and creates all sorts of performance issues. Doesn't happen with normal injections setup as the fuel helps wash off carbon deposits. Some late model Audi's with tfsi engines are badly affected as well
  13. 250 is fine for a runabout. I get about 600 kays/tank and performance is about the same as a base spec falcodore with less torque down low. Not looking forward to carbon issues tho
  14. Just get some 303 Aerospace the stuff works great on all interior plastics
  15. It's probably the sensitivity of the new speakers, lower than the originals and hence lower volume at the same input levels.
  16. For me, and a lot of pro detailers, rain is no reason to run and hide but a good chance to test the protection of the wax or sealant. Especially when its a new product
  17. When did Costco stop selling them? I thought it was pretty sweet for the price and picked one up when they had heaps

  19. I read somewhere yesterday that a new GTO/GT3000 will coming out instead, with Hybrid tech. Similar to the upcoming R36

  22. Where is your earth cable connected? I always extend mine and connect them to the metal frame under the dash, under a nearby screw. As far as I remember hooking earth to the factory loom was always troublesome
