  1. Can't really see much cross-shopping within that customer profile. How many ocker business directors and tradies made good are going to abandon their life long goal of owning a top of the line Holden to impress their mates and tow their boat with, to buy a Nissan. None. Porsche need be more worried when those that just want a fast, well engineered performance car realise how much of a rip-off a Cayman S is compared to an R35 that guy used to be editor of Wheels magazine for a few years Maybe- assuming they got theirs at normal price, and not marked up by speculators, and they didn't take a bath on being the first to be able to comply... Hey, won't affect you, since ur not buying $57,000+ vehicles new: Just stay poor, and enjoy your $13 a week tax cut
  2. or ever engines will always need more fuel at and around the peak torque revs, because that's where the engine reaches it's greatest volumetric efficiency, and the charge density is at it's highest.
  3. The only real way to settle this would be to engine-dyno both engines. Too many variables re: gearbox ratios, final drive ratios and wheel diameter.
  4. He and his race engineer seemed to figure that running lighter on fuel was a way to eliminate the disadvantage of the hards. Can't help but wonder if they had only put a bit more fuel in at the second stop if He still would have been able to take ~ 1 second per lap out of Massa like he was doing- Given that He was only around 5.5 seconds adrift at the end of the race, an extra 7 laps would have most likely been enough to see him come out just in front of Massa after the third stop. Either that, or if He had have managed to pass Massa a few laps earlier. Would, shoulda, coulda, i guess. Just hope they make the chassis work better with the softs for Monte... How about 'OMG-my-farking-neck-muscles-are-killing-me!' corner? I was watching the g-readout during one of the in-car views; from the turn in at the start to after the 3rd apex, the lateral g's never dropped below 3.5, and peaked at around 4.9. And the whole corner goes for about 6 seconds

  6. at a guess, I'd say it was stolen... and, gosh darnit, the owner was just about to get comprehensive insurance and fit an immobiliser but that could just be me being cynical....

Such a good track- That triple apex corner made my neck sore just watching it Great passing moves by the McLaren drivers: Kova carving up half the field like a gun, and Hami's uber-ballsy pass on Massa right on the limit down to the apex. Gripping.

  11. Casino foyer Military road in Mosman. Carbon-fibre side-blade looked awesome in real life. Just now coming across the harbour bridge. Couldn't believe it- An F430 Spider and a 599GTB (in red circle, couldn't get a good shot). Sorry about crappy night photos.

  18. this is true. i can pick turbo RB-DE engine noise from 3 blocks away well, yeah, there is actually- but of course it's up to Police discretion. i'm sure someone who can be bothered will find the relevant references to 'harsh acceleration' in the road code...

  20. just imagine the amount of power R35's will be making in another few months time after the ECU upgrades start coming through big power is fine for going fast in a straight line, but enjoyable driving in real-world conditions requires good tractability and throttle adjustability in corners (unlike the light-switch style power delivery of big rwkW 32/3/4/ GT-Rs) the whole point with the R35 is that it feels nice and strong through most of the rev range... not 3500~4000rpm of torquelessness like you get with RB26's

I don't understand the way BMW do things- They decided to give the new M5 a V10 so they could jump on the V10 band-wagon and draw some parallels to their F1 engine programme (at the time)... fair enough; but why go and give it the same capacity as the last V8 M5?? - I mean it makes good power, yes, but it gets completely smoked for low to mid-range tractability by the 6.3 litre AMG engine fitted to hi-po V8 Mercs. Why not go closer to 6 litres??. And then the M3- What was wrong with making it a 5 litre V8 that can rev to 8000rpm? Wouldn't weigh any more, and you'd get better everything ('cept w.o.t fuel economy), but I guess that would step on the M5's toes...
  22. a V8 having a much shorter crank (two conrods per crankshaft journal), and a shorter block not made out of cast-iron certainly gives them an easy head-start there. on a similar note: the head powertrain engineer for the R35 reckons that, even with the tricky DSG gearbox, that the whole drivetrain in the new GT-R is lighter than that of the R34 by a fair bit. of course there's also the benefit of the major masses being situated lower and distributed more favourably.
