I dunno, i personally know which workshop this happened, i've used them before no worries. They even drop your car back home so its waiting for you when you get back from work

I'd say a light sanding in at least a couple of steps down to some really fine grade paper then follow with a few applications of metal polish. I use mothers mag and aluminium polish it works fine, then chuck a couple of layers of wax over the top should get them looking ok.
guy probably has no clue and doesnt give a stuff about anyone elses property. At least theres no damage and you had footage anyway, unfortunatley theres not alot you can do

Try some plumbers thread tape and something sort of removable strength thread locker.. might work i guess.
How the hell do you wear down the gear thread?? Do you have a habit of unscrewing it at the lights or something??
