    Top Gear Oz

i assume it would just be a normal oz spec GTR, so I would expect it to be slightly faster than the one they had, only because of the limiter, but stories I hear are the Jap spec cars carry a little more power (like the original one they took around) so I think the difference won't be amazing. maybe they're not allowed to review cars anymore after last year's damage
  2. do you really want diesel? I mean here in oz it's something stupid like 20c a litre more than petrol, vs half the price of petrol in europe. not to mention there's usually a higher initial cost over the petrol option which would take e.g. 100,000km or so to recoup. here there just isn't as much of a saving, but I think the golf diesel is good...depends on your budget. Epica is crap, not sure if the Cruze will have a diesel option?
  3. hehe it's 16k now we could possibly give him the benefit of the doubt that this is a 2nd car he has?? unless of course someone has spotted the original car he was talking about and can say it is the same vehicle. He could have parted it out into a 2nd car? OK I'm just fishing for something which may say it's ok... hmm...I'm inclined to steer well clear if i was a pospective buyer.
  4. better look at the service history, sounds like it's time to get a full rebuild soon which is gonna be big bucks. I assume it's one I saw in the sunday times or something last week...
  5. the funny thing is without speeding fine 'threats' do you see more accidents on the road? Really I haven't seen anything stupid on the roads more than normal. I think the cops should be more like this in general, just pull over someone if they doing something stupid and let those driving safely, albeit maybe over the limit a little, keep going. edit: I also find it strange that almost the first 'industrial action' police take is to stop doing non-essential stuff and only emergency things, and always speeding tickets are the first ones that get classed as non-essential. Speed makes accidents worse, but it doesn't necessarily cause accidents which the cops understand at least.
  6. general rule is any non-standard or rather non-factory part without ADR approval is illegal. I think if you get a V-spec II CF bonnet or Z tune GENUINE bonnets then they will be legal as they are factory standard. Look-a-like bonnets without ADR approval are illegal. Maybe it differs between states...
  7. supposing there are benefits I guess the next thing is cost and how long do they last. To coat them again would require a full engine rebuild so you'd have to factor that cost in again.
  8. mmm love the FD...I'd say swap for a 34 GTR but you have enough
  9. might be best to tell people where you're located to give you some pertinent advice look on carsales to do a bit of research on prices, etc.
  10. eh? I think it's V36 from now in japan...since 06/07?
  11. $15k is about right...all depends on how desperate he is Also depends what mods have been done, you mention a few mild ones. with such high kms if it's been driven pretty hard you'd have to look at the 2nd timing belt change if it hasn't been done already, compression testing for sure to make sure you don't need a rebuild now. For such a high mileage car it's worth taking it to a mechanic to do proper tests not just 'safety checks'. Gearbox/clutch might be pretty tired if they haven't been overhauled. You're getting to the stage where, even if looked after, the drivetrain would be starting to wear out badly to the point of needing bits replaced completely like diff and engine overhauls. 4cyl turbo I think you wouldn't want to travel more than 250,000km without some form of rebuild after 10 years. See if it runs rough idling, if it does you might need to rebuild it soon anyway there could be a lot of wear on the valves, etc. if fully synth oil hasn't been used its whole life. Also things like suspension components should be on their 2nd set and wearing out bushes, absorbers, etc. all over again. Pads and rotors may need changing and are big dollar items. Things like rust, wear to the radiator, and loose parts that just wear out over time and mileage.
  12. I think a glass version is the one to try and obtain, but I'm not sure what the cost would be. it might be possible to make some better looking ones too while you're at it
  13. I'll give valve a clap for releasing TF2 almost 10 years after it was supposed to as well
  14. hmm I should be working there fri to sun but might have to give it a miss to attend instead haha what to do...
  15. ssh tunnel through to proxy server at your home, basically tunnel through home connection using ssh or a vpn server. good until they block your home IP also if you can, RDP into your home computer and surf from there...sometimes the IT dept's forget to block that.
  16. I got a friend over east to go and visit the seller and check the car over. And I got the seller to send me about 100 pics! He really hated that but hey...at the end of the day your the guy with the money if he doesn't want to go to the trouble then move on. It's not likely that these cars are going to appreciate with time in the near future so there will be another one. But if you do find THE one then I would go to the trouble of at least getting someone to look over the car if you can't go over and do it. Would you want to spend $50k on something without seeing it?
  17. you accidentally the fleshlight didn't you? Edit:ok that new post makes some sense but not much. I understand you to be asking for tips on launching your car being a r33 gtst with upgraded turbos vs a v8 car. Few problems, it would depend on what mods you have on top of the turbos and how it has been tuned. Short answer is who knows if it comes on boost early, has midrange, upgraded clutch, sticky tyres, etc. Too many variables and it would be trial and error. Next thing is vs what? Doesn't really matter as u should be aiming for the best launch u can do but what kind of race? 1/4 mile or to the stop sign? Further issue is street racing? Don't be stupid, take your mate or the random to the drags and do it safely and you'll have the timeslip to prove it. Spin your wheels and risk losing your licence or more. Don't be today tonight fodder.

  19. just giving some advice on photo taking not editing. you can probably edit like a guru in ps or lr but if you take the photo right at the start it' less time fiddling in software. random cars or ppl in the bg and shadows on the models' faces with over exposed cars can mostly be recovered but why make it hard for ya i can show u some examples if ya want?
  20. better pick a better time of the day to do it next time. Exposure is all wrong due to the harsh light which makes it hard for the tog. The cars in the bg and reflections aren't good either...gotta setup a bit better and frame the shot. Use some remote fill flashes, the models and car weren't exposed right.
  21. alright so i took these at the end of march but anyway...in case anyone else was there and wants some pics whoop ass wednesday edit: oh lots of fords because I was there for a ford thing.
  22. been a year, anybody given these a whirl?
  23. final install? surely they have been bitten by the mod bug and can't stop making new ones...
  24. i'd say it's just the shot was done on tripod with long shutter
  25. Put it simply the SpecV is obviously for those that want a GTR for the track. You won't see much better drag times or on road comfort, it's really for those that want to push it on the track, and for that you'd want the SpecV for the improvements that you can then mod upon. Considering the brakes are around $50k to make is it really that surprising that it is so costly? The cost difference on other cars with cc vs normal brakes is similar but of course it looks worse when you have a cheaper base car to start with. e.g. $15k Accent with $50k brakes would make the car 'worth' $65k but it wouldn't be worth the purchase. The question is how much do the changes make on the track, that's where the SpecV might make it all up. Let's face it, the R35 has been criticised as being too heavy and suffering brake fade so the handling mods, weight loss and brakes should help.
