Who doubted Sydneykid? you should be ashaimed of yourselves... we had this thread: http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/sh...ead.php?t=43571 then this thread: http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/sh...ead.php?t=38857 .........now its my thread! RB26 CAMS IN AN RB20 WITH STANDARD ECU WORKS!!! bought my R33 GTR Vspec cams off GT51R (you may have seen him from the cover of HPI a few issues ago). took them to the mechanic and he said it wouldn't be an issue with fitting. everyone kept trying 'at home' and saying its not working it must be the ECU but with no proof that the ECU was playing up. In most cases they changed more than one thing so its hard to point the finger when this happens. so yesterday they begun the process of removing my old cams and then eventually in went the rb26 cams. My mechanic mesured them side-by-side before they went in and said the duration was about the same with only about half a millimetre increase in lift. sounds just like what it should be. at this point he said it won't idle very lumpy at all from what he has seen in the past and there should be no issues with stalling or anything. i went there after uni today, worried that i'm going to get there to hear 'sorry mate it won't idle' and i would have to double to labour cost to get them removed but i was greeted with 'nah simple cam change, mate' and it idled great the first time! only $250 for the cams and $250 for the labour! now the seat-of-the-pants-o-metre result? not as great as documented on the forums, but good top-end power and better torque all over. BUT note my lack of modifications: - FMIC - 3" front/dump - high flow panel filter - cold air feed Note: stock ECU the turbo spools up much faster but i can feel the restrictive exhaust after it starts making boost like its struggelling to let the gasses out i think that with more mods then i would have gotten the 15rwkw increase skdneykid talked about but i would hypothesise that its more about 5rwkw all through the rev range that i got. so there we have it - being a qualified scientist its in my nature to not believe someone else unless it either makes absolute sense or ive tried it myself. next on my agenda is 3" cat/cat-back and re-tune ECU to optimise the setup i have. maybe even an rb25 turbo if the hip-pocket ain't too depleted its cam time, rb20 owners!

well my r32 didn't have a trannie cooler and from what i have read most skylines don't maybe someone in japan put one on your car? i doubt it came there standard...

if gutting the cat makes no difference, then why do people claim to 'fell the difference' when they go to a 'high flow' cat which (from what i have interpreted) is just a normal cat flanges but with a greater volume inside? it ain't any bigger in diameter it must be less restrictive..! conclusion drawn by me: if high-flow cats make a difference then so does gutting the cat. bring on the disagreements!
-
thanks mate, as always a thorough response. my gtr cams went in today so the exhaust really has to go soon so i can get those exhaust gasses out quickly! 2 questions: - how low does the super dragger hang? - cannon mufflers: are they any better/worse for flow/noise than a larger muffler? (assuming they are both 3" straight through)
-
myself also being a fan of CHEAP power upgrades i so DO IT! just buy another stuffed cat and keep the current one you have as a 'spare' in case you get epa'd and have to change it before an inspection... knock it out and buy some 3" / 2.5" pipe from an exhaust shop and whack it in, held by some spot welds or something honestly just look at the thing and if you can tell me its not going to be a restriction with a straight face then i'll................

aaaaaaaaaaaargh! where is your trannie cooler? with power like that the auto needs one (coming from an auto skyline driver) i got one for $80 brand new from supercheap auto...

How-to: bolt a VLT turbo onto your RB25DET
WazR32GTSt replied to Revhead's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
how would a VL turbo go an on rb20det? is the exhaust housing the same as an rb25 turbo or slightly bigger? would it bo too laggy? i'm a big fan of low-cost upgrades... -
you can hang at the back with me and the other slow-ass drivers...

What am i sposed to do now? -need help
WazR32GTSt replied to Memph's topic in General Automotive Discussion
where do they get their stupid figures from? the r32gtst is under the limit... i would go down to the local cop shop and sort it out there and determine exactly where they get their figures from. then you can go to nissan and get factory specs and coem back and shove it up their arse! -
R32 GTS-T Type M front bumper vs GTR Replica.
WazR32GTSt replied to Remix-'s topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
that's potential cash just sitting in the shed then... oh well your loss -
hmmm so the 3" sounds like a clear winner here... what about going a custom exhaust (3" mandrel with cannon muffler and resonator - $450) versus a jap second hand exhaust (same specs) for about 500 probably will there be any differences in cabin resonance? will i get a quieter sound from a trusty jap exhaust? the exhaust shop that quoted me 450 also said that they make the exhaust sit higher than stock so it is not the lowest part of the car and makes it easier to lower the car later if i want
-
so you say 3" is better? at the moment its making f-all power but there is a major restriction (in the stock cat-back part). the muffler i believe has done nothing at all to free up power...

R32 GTS-T Type M front bumper vs GTR Replica.

want to sell me your gtr replica bar? ill give you $200... PM me also, can you guys post pics of your 'early-model' standard bar and the type m bar for us to compare? cheers... -
Q: 2.5" cat-back vs. 3" cat-back... is the 3" any better? or do i get the 2.5" ?? when the tax return comes in, i will be in the market for a new cat-back exhaust... currently i have a 3" dump/front on the standard r32 turbo, and have the stock cat-back into a 2.5" straight through muffler... won't ever be running more than 13 or 14psi through my FMIC (and with gtr cams this week!) so brings me back to the question: do i go 2.5" cat-back or 3" cat-back? for the exhaust flow i require will a 2.5" cat-back be sufficient? i have read articles of sr20's and other 2L engines making good power with a 2.5" exhaust so would 3" just bo overkill with unnecessary cabin resonance? or will the extra diameter of the 3" over 2.5" make a big difference? if i choose the 2.5" i can just change the pipe and leave my current muffler and that will save on money a bit... what do you think? remember its hanging off an rb20 not an rb25 so exhaust flow will be less. cheers, Waz.

hmmmm... affiliated with castrol in any way?

haha... definately stupid question of the week!

oooooh i envy you all soooo much! hahahahahahahahaha you idiot...

for R32GTSt: - unplug the sensor - remove the plug from the metal bracket that holds it - remove this metal bracket that holds the plug. its attached to the turbo heat shield - its a 21mm (maybe 19mm) spanner that just simply unscrews the sensor reverse the process to put it back/put new one on i had a sort of 'missing' problem that i thought may have been O2 sensor-related so i took it off, sprayed it with brake cleaner and put it back on I agree that you can't clean the O2 sensor if its stuffed but... if the sensor is fine and you are running rich and the sensor is covered in carbon then it can't really 'sense' the exhaust gas as it has no access to it. thus giving it a spray removes the carbon and gives the sensor the chance to read the exhaust gas for oxygen levels... that was my theory and it gave me a smoother idle and slightly better fuel economy

fark that thing must drink a tank of petrol in 2 seconds!

pics of exhaust? [email protected] how much would shipping be to melbourne? cheers, Waz. -
do you need to get a list of people or is it just 'first in first served' basis and if you come too late you miss out?
-
unfortunately they won't accept it how long untill you are off your P's? realistically you won't probably get pulled over AND scrutinised for at least another 6-12 months or else you are very unlucky...
-
and that's the law... bad luck unfortunately if you did your research before spendind $15000+ on a car then you would have found this out. so you have no excuse but to buy another car that's under the limit or potentially face court (penalty is lisence suspension) this was the main reason i bought an r32gtst (back when i was still on my P's) and it pisses me off to see 18 year olds all the time saying they have an R33gtst or R34gtt on their P's trying to say they are legal when we keep telling you THEY ARE ILLEGAL LIKE IT OR LUMP IT! sorry about that... where was i? oh yeah, its illegal mate sorry. if you want help finding another car then let me know as i know someone who owns a shop that iomports cars and he can get you an s13ca18det or r32gtst or somethign under the 15yo rule that IS legal or you could just risk it... like everyone does already...
