  1. I have had a slight 'miss' for quite some time, only at idle and very random... have narrowed it down to coil packs or O2 sensor. on sunday i decided it was time for a plug change and at the same time i thought could check the resistance of my coil packs to see their state of health. and see if it could be the culprit of my miss. went down to supercheap and bought 6 plugs (NGK: BCPR6ES - 0.8mm gap) that are the exact same ones as were already in the car. so... only took about 1 hour - took off the intake pipe that runs over the cam covers, took off the required hoses, loostened the required clamps etc. came to the plugs... took off one coil pack at a time, checked the resistances (all ended up being the same), chagned the plugs. upon inspection the plugs were absolutely great and didn't even need a change (that's copper plugs in for 10,000kms and counting) Put it all back together... turned the key... NOTHING! aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhh!!! it cranked but wouldn't ignite! checked all hoses for a massive leak - nothing checked all the coil plugs - everything plugged in and ok by now dad was pissed at me for "playing with your bloody car again" (hehe) but i was determined i hadn't stuffed anything. he thought that i had blown the ptu or something. so, after a day of trying to diagnose the problem i thought stuff it, i'll just put the old plugs back in, after all they were the only thing that i had changed. presto, car started first time! wtf??!?!?! what's the liklihood of getting 6 stuffed plugs? or is one completely stuffed plug good enough to not let the car even start and idle like crap? I'm going to try and get a refund at supercheap but i can't lie as the tips of the plugs don't look new even with a clean since being exposed to fuel and the inside of my cylinders - might have to tell them the truth and risk not getting a refund. well thought i'd share my odd and annoying experience and get some sympathy for wasting a day that i could have otherwise spent on the forum / with the missus / anywhere else really! at least i can say that i have determined that it is most likely my O2 sensor that is causing my miss at idle. anyone else have any odd experiences with their engine? have good ones, Warren.
  2. not taking Seeona?? have a BLAST mate...
  3. if you are just looking for a once-off upgrade for that little bit more power than some ECU tuning/aftermarket management would be a good option. however... once you are bitten by the modification bug you won't want to stop there i agree with Zahos in that if you have a desired path that you wish to take with your modifications (ie exhaust/fmic/boost) that you seem to have expressed in your posts, then do all the 'bolt-on' mods first and than once its all finished get the management (ECU) organised. saves on tuning as you only have to get it done once rather than after each time you do a mod. my order from stock skyline to mild beast would be: - dump/front pipe - high-flow panel filter + cold-air intake - cat-back exhaust - bleed valve (12psi on R32 or 10psi on R33) - GTR camshafts (great cheap upgrade on rb20 but not sure of rb25) - ECU retune / aftermarkt management then if you decide that your pockets are real deep then the next set of upgrades aren't going to be cheap and the cost of a re-tune will be insignificant compared to the cost of the mod / fitting so can be justified... good luck with it all Waz.
  4. hmmmm... interesting question... i just love it when people think of possible cheap upgrades for their cars rather than just forking out 2000 for a new turbo! eagerly awaiting the response...
  5. as for hicas light: check your power steering fluid level, if its not low then its most probably your steering wheel that's turning on the light on the dash - either way i wouldnt worry too much about it congrats on the new buy also!
  6. top quality advice... i'd agree and say the 'little bites at a time' method of trying one thing before the next (rather than everything at once) is much more effective at diagnosing problems that generally arise. unless you are going to a top workshop that specialises in skylines then most mechanics will shake their head if you swapped alot and they can't get it to work - if only we lived in japan where skylines are the equivilent of commodores/falcons and mechanics know them inside-out!
  7. with my auto and stock cat-back i will also be sitting in the corner being laughed at so don't worry...
  8. i agree. you keep seeing the same thing every time and after a while it becomes part of the background as mentioned (sky031) the vic section has the 'one sticky to rule them all' thread which contains links to all the top-notch threads in the vic section. works pretty well i think.
  9. hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
  10. i was under the assumption that KamikazeR33 had that covered since he posted the pics and all... to quote steven segal "assumption is the mother of all f*** ups!"
  11. what's that snail-like thing hanging off my exhaust manifold ??
  12. what happened to the bmw-style design? dun like the blue/black one...
  13. i have not lost any power down low that's for sure... (had none to begin with anyway )
  14. i don't see why you couldn't? i think cams are generally for 'rb' engines so as to work in either rb20/25/26 just be wary that after a certain amount of lift, the rb20 head needs to be modified i think to accomodate the installation. can someone clarify this further?
  15. that extra 500g of paint will really slow the car down for just interior bits just use a can of $15 paint with some decent primer underneath i say davor hows adele (the missus) by the way?
  16. hmmm that was a joke maybe we need to relax
  17. i think leave the stock r32 rims they look good or just go for r32 gtr rims (slightly darker in colour and also wider on the back but othersise same design)
  18. what are you painting, davor? go across to supercheap its $15 a can for chrome or gold that is what i used when i painted my brake calipers gold
  19. i think the r33gtst will be faster, but there's so many more advantages that i believe the gts4 has: - better tracton allowing for better takeoff's and better drivability in the wet - that lovely high revving rb20 - better shape in my opinion (baby bro of the ORIGINAL godzilla!) the r32 gts4 is heavier than the r32 gtst making it probably about the same weight of the r33gtst but the better launches put it in front before the rb25 will help the r33 pull it back into contention good luck with the purchase! Waz.
  20. is it a 'ticking' noise? could it be a lifter that's blocked so no oil is filling it up and thus a ticking? this would not be a serious issue me thinks...
  21. new to these go cars, hey? don't forget to isolate the inhibitor switch and bleed the control modulator before you micronise the mickey dubs on the ioniser then you should be right Waz.
  22. isn't INASNT starting a business or something? PS what's the deal with DrunkyMonkey - is this shan or a rip off of shan or something???
  23. haha in that case you got ripped off for $10 coz they aren't worth sh1t!
