Gtr Gear Box Strenth
Brockas replied to dave32gtr's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Gear set was in there for a while with ~320awkw. Power went up to 400awkw, and smashed on the first night. If you read the post, I said it was a stupid shift. I'm sure it'll handle a few 9's and 10's, but if you wheelspin through first and smash 2nd (and it bogs) don't expect it to hold together. You can break anything with a tough enough shift. I know of a few PPG and HKS dog boxes which have let go on the track/strip due to harsh changes with serious clutches. -
32gtr Rebuilt Engine Blown After Just 5000 K's - Help
Brockas replied to BlackR32's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Wait, you're driving FAST while on a run in, and you don't know what clearences are, but you're trying to build your own motor? My god man, take it to a workshop before it happens again! Did you even get the crank machined to suit the bearings??? -
Gtr Gear Box Strenth
Brockas replied to dave32gtr's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
R33 GT-R running 530awhp (~400awkw). OS Giken cross set lasted 1 night with the new power. Wheelsping in 1st, hard shift into 2nd (high RPM, low road-speed) equals: Stripped 2nd gear pretty well. Clutch is an OS Giken Triple Plate. Stupid shift, my fault. Going to get the box rebuilt with all the good gear and sell it, but only if I can get a buyer for it. Will be pretty cheap (~5k including box). Currently have a stock gearbox in there, has done a Dutton Rally, several track days, and a few runs. Has held up so far, but I know it wont. Will probably end up going with a PPG dog set. -
Can't believe nobody's mentioned it: Prodigy - Firestarter Usually throw that on before heading out on the track...

Congrats To Blitzxtr For Taking Out Autosalon Dyno
Brockas replied to Swiper the Fox's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
LOL HKS T51R... SPL or KAI? Either way its a ~900hp rated turbo, and you reckon it only makes 450rwhp. Either it's being transfered through a rubber driveline or it's running 14psi. As I said, thats one hell of a low reading dyno. It's physically not possible for a car that weighs as much as a GT-R to do ~135mph with 450rwhp. -
Congrats To Blitzxtr For Taking Out Autosalon Dyno
Brockas replied to Swiper the Fox's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Simon's time (10.91 @ 132 with 460rwkw) was with a stock gearbox and $90 shitty tyres. At 3256lbs (std 32 GTR weight) and 485hp (360rwkw) you shouldn't be running 134mph, more like 124mph. Can I ask what turbo was used? Let me guess, it's a 700+hp rated turbo, running in its peak efficiency, and "only" making 485hp at the treads. I'd suspect a very low reading dyno.... Besides the point, all I want to see is a compo between a HKS T04Z and Garrett version, someone post dyno's!! -

No. It's all in the tune. -

Brockas replied to Swiper the Fox's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Yes, exact same dyno. Dyno Dynamics in Shootout mode. and the 468rwkw one has run 132mph. Can you post sheets please? Will help a lot of people decide if the HKS turbo is worth the 2k more... -

By your own definition you just did that for us! We're only saying "congrats Steve on being the youngest person ever to win Targa", I'm not sure how that constitutes 'blowing' or being a fanboy. Obviously, on this stage the R35 can match it with the Porkas/Lambos etc, but of course anyone with any knowledge about motorsport at all knows that certain cars are suited to certain events. Who cares if the R35 is going to smash everyone on tight twisty tracks, time will tell, for now though lets just congratulate Steve and the R35 on a job well done at Targa West.
-
Snowy, you do sound a little 'green' there buddy. It's not a case of "fanboys" it's a case of Steve's abilities being pretty well respected over here. And Jim Richards hasn't done Targa West before?? Keep in mind he came 4th last year in his Evo 8 MR. SS22, SS23, both over 8 minutes long, and in front of Richards by 6 seconds on both stages.
-
Weeks was apparently using 2 year old pace notes, went straight over a crest when he was supposed to chuck a left. Cost him some time. But, Steve's been reeling him in on most stages, except for a couple where there were issues. Keep in mind, Steve is running STREET TYRES!! The standard tyres that came with the car. Weeks is using T888's, and Richards also on R-Comps.

Is anyone a member of Fitness First Platinum Club on Hay St in Subiaco? I just got a pamphlet in the mail, and I've been looking for a gym to join. Does anyone have any experience with this place? Fair bit of coin to outlay, but if it's worth it I don't mind. Thanks in advance.

Amazing the difference subtle changes in the setups make. Simon's 2.6L + T04Z is on noise by 4k, makes 630rwhp. Gav's 2.8L + GT-RS's was laggier and made 580rwhp. Every 'big low mount twin' setup I've personally seen has been lazier than an equivalent big single setup (including my own). Twins: HKS GT-SS's (450-500rwhp ie. chris260's 2.6L) Garrett 2860 -5's (500-550rwhp ie. Gav Beer's 2.8L) Single: GT35R (550-600rwhp ie. Jimmah's 2.6L) T04Z (600-650rwhp ie. Simon's 2.6L) IMO, these are the best setups for the desired power goals on a 26/28. Of course everyone is going to have a different opinion, but they're the only setups I've seen which have a reasonable trade off between response/power.
