Ok, to try and shorten this ive had a intermittent puff of smoke out the exhaust for a few weeks...it has been only when i punch it and make boost etc... Now it seems it has got alot worse, my cabin filled with lots of smoke and so much behind me i couldn't see anything...this scared the shit outta me. Engine was still running perfectly and so on. I took it home and jacked it up, had a look underneath at the turbo and i saw the following i don't have a turbo timer on my car and from the photos, you might not be able to see in detail, but around the housings, both exhaust and turbine, there is oil leaking out...just about everywhere...is this my turbo seals gone?? Sorry for the long post, im worried about my car and don't know much about turbos in general...any comments would be greatly appreciated!

How Much Play Should I Have On My Timing Belt?
SDEWY5 replied to predator's topic in General Maintenance
is the buzzing noise bad for the belt? i just replaced al the belts on mine and its making a buzzing noise from the cam pulleys, i think its just the belt bedding in. My belt is on there fairly tight, not overly..i can still push it up and down a good 4-5mm up and down. -
yep well, cars all together and there is no power going to the starter motor...ill try and get pics but its just not turning over...

Hi guys, i got a bit of a problem. Ive got one extra plug, blue in colour that comes out of what looks like about 10cm away from the starter motor in the wiring loom that goes into the starter motor and i have no idea where it goes! i cant find anywhere to put it and it looks kinda important, the cars been apart for a while so im afraid when i try to start it tomorrow when its altogether again that it wont start...it'll be pretty dissapointing because i really want to drive it tomorrow! hasn't turned over in 3 months!

Ok, well after a fun day at Eastern Creek, i blew out the exhaust gasket on my RB25, in the process of taking off the manifold, i snapped a few studs, not a big deal. Anyway, one thing led to another and i have taken the intake manifold off, exhaust manifold off, all oil lines and coolant lines off the turbo, and took the head off also. Just replacing all the seals on the top end and cam belt etc...went a bit crazy.. Now my head has had some mild stuff done to it and i pick it back up tomorrow but i want to make sure everything is all in perfect timing....i guess you can imagine why. Can anyone tell me how to place the head and align the cams with everything else? i have a fair idea but want to assure myself 100% how to do it. Oh and one other thing, what is the best way to clean up the face of the block where the head gasket sits on? Any info would be appreciated, thanks! Chris.

Traction like a GTR from a GTST
SDEWY5 replied to Robo's's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
i got the RA1's and i rate them 1billion% awesome tyre but after around roughly 3-4 laps they feel very unsettled. Only time i get wheelspin is a hard 2nd gear shift...then again my car is fairly stock standard..running 235/45-17's all around so i can rotate them..wear is pretty brutal but they've lasted me a good 4 months now haaaard driving at supersprints and still have plenty in them... -
Tyres you use(d) and how u would rate them
SDEWY5 replied to ZigenGT's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
on the Merc i use Toyo T1-R's, used to have Falken 512's...they were shit, T1R's r far better, Semi slick for the Merc is the D01 Dunlop...didn't like this tyre much, too unsettled even with the lack of power. On the Skyline im using the Toyo RA1, and hands down, the best gripping tyre i have ever come across...ever...like liquid nails, the car will not budge, around bottom sweeper at Eastern Creek at roughly 180 and the car doesnt even feel unsettled! HIGHLY RECCOMMENDED! -
I want to upgrade my current setup to coilovers shortly, but am not too familiar with the brands and their pro's and con's. I usually just use my 33 on the track and the current setup, although quite good (HKS coils and newSR brand shocks[btw has anyone heard of this brand before? im not familiar with them]) i think the ride height could be lowered a little bit more to aid in some areas. In addition when i do drive it on the road i want to dump it to the deck... Im told that Tein now have an Australian office of some sort so theres technical help there if required. Any thoughts and advice would be appreciated. Thanks, Chris R.

what part of the manifold are you wanting machined out of curiousity?

great pointers there! thanks for that otherwise id be having alot more dramas id imagine. one other question i have is, in the event i snap a stud does it often involve tapping a new thread altogether or will i be able to remove the stud straight out of the head itself? A friend of mine has an RB20DET in his VN commodore and snapped a stud in the process of taking the manifold off, he had to drill it out and tap in a new thread for the stud..id really like to avoid doing this if at all possible

i cannot vouch for them enough...i guess it depends what car though also. For the Skylines you can probably get away without one but better off to have one and not risk fouling plugs and so on. I was at Eastern Creek today and not a drop of oil went into the intake, car performed solidly all day...minus that exhaust gasket...curse that gasket... Ran a Merc out at Oran park few months back and it dumped so much oil into the intake it was actually pouring out through the intake and over the front chrome grille. Also fouled up the plugs to thepoint where the car would barely accelerate at all...

Im making like 1lb below 3000rpm on full go, was at eastern creek and the ticking just got louder and louder all day till it now drives like an absolute dog...and sounds like 40 yr old neglected valiant V8 or something...going to have to pull it apart and replace the gasket, but i was wondering if there was anything to look out for when doing this...havent done it to a skyline before...should i go a OEM gasket or go something aftermarket? Thanks! Chris.

yeah, sweet ive seen him out there at oran park..blitzed me..then again my cars a stocker, his shoots fu@kin 6ft flames out the exhaust..lol...awesome car...
-
i think id trust a blitz actuator moreso than a 20c washer to control my boost levels..

im with the southern sporting car club, just wondering if anyone from the forum is competing out there this coming Sunday?

HOWTO: RB25DET High Boost mode with standard solenoid
SDEWY5 replied to paulr33's topic in Tutorials / DIY / FAQ
nevermind..solved the problem...im such a retard i totally bypassed the wastegate actuator so it was bleeding off all vacuum..so wastegate just refused to open...this is very bad....i musta hit roughly 20psi at one stage...fu@king so lucky it didnt damage anything.. -
ok....well holy [email protected] boost has been spiking well over 1 bar and its standard...other than the bleed valve whick is wound down to minimum...
-
Hi, i ask this question because i was under the impression that a standard R33 GTSt ran 7psi maximum standard..now i read in another thread that this it is in fact 1 bar standard. Can someone clear this up for me? Reading on forums about maximum boost settings for the turbos being roughly 12psi and then hearing that maximum standard boost is 14.7psi has got my brain all confused...i probably sound like a idiot but its thrown me out... Thanks for any help!
