O S Giken Twin Plate
TokyoTaxi replied to TokyoTaxi's topic in For Sale (Private Car Parts and Accessories)
So......would there be any interest if I were to put a set of "brand new" clutch plates in and then offer the lot for $1,500 ?? That's essentially a new O S Giken Twin Plate Clutch for $700 cheaper than brand new. Just to clarify, this sale ( unlike another advertised O S Giken clutch for sale ) is NOT a scam in any way !! Heaps of people have purchased stuff from me and NOT ONE person has ever been unhappy in any way with anything I've ever sold. If the Trader Rating system was still active you would see the proof. -
Skyline Sun Screen / Shield.
TokyoTaxi replied to TokyoTaxi's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
Thanks heaps everyone. -
Has anyone got a decnt sun shield reflector screen thingy that you put in your car to keep the sun off the dash ? I want one that will fit all the way down between the dash and the windscreen and then actually be held in place by the sun visors. All the ones I've seen in the shops are too small. If anyone knows where to get one & how much could you let me know please ? Cheers

Price now lower and negotiable and better quality pics added -
Will be interesting to see how they cope with a track day. As a street tyre they should be awesome. It will also be interesting to see where Falken heads in the future with their tyres since their parent company ( Ohtsu ) has been bought out by Sumitomo.

One of the guys at work has a Mitsu Mirage with 3L V6 Mivec engine in it from a FTO. Engine's mildly worked etc and it goes like a scalded cat !! ( I don't like front wheel drives though ). Also, there's a guy driving around Sydney in a Jaffa Orange Volvo 240GL wagon that has the drive train from an R33 GTS-T fitted to it. It's not a weapon but has HUGE potential to be one !! Actually, there are also 2 Volvo wagons running around Syd with 308 stroker's in them ( one light and one dark blue ). I got raced by the light blue one a couple of years ago and it caught me way off gaurd !!!

LOL !! The grass is always greener scenario I've been a mechanic ( and always will be I guess... ) and couldn't wait to get out just because of the routine nature of most mechanical work. I then went to spanners on commercial aircraft engines ( even more boring than cars ) and now I'm at a desk and work on cars for extra $'s on the weekends etc and that to me is the perfect balance. So what I'm suggesting is, do a TAFE course like "Fix you own car" or somethig like that and see how you like it before you do anything rash. Then if you like it, pursure it as a trade but you might find with a bit of knowledge and the ability to work on your own car, it might be enough to satisfy you. One thing that has been said already is that to be a GOOD mechanic you must be passionate about cars. Otherwise you'll probably become a feature on a "Shonky Mechanics" segment on A Current Affair

Those RT615's look pretty good for a street tyre. Don't think they'd hold up as well as the RT215's but they look like they'd be better in the wet. If anyone's going to try them, some feedback would be great.

Assuming you'll be storing the car in a garage ( not outside ). My 2 cents is to get one of the heavy gauge paper ones from Supercheap as they breath and there's no chance of getting mold etc between the car and the cover. I "think" the brand in Tyco or something like that. They are more expensive than the plastic ones but well worth the $'s. They are also machine washable Meduim size car cover should cover a 33 past the bumpers ( the medium size covers my 32 completely ). Hope that helps .

Funny how the kick-off of this forum in 2002 is considered "old school" LOL !! I can remember signing up with the NISSAN SVD Car Club back in 1995 with my HR31 GTS-X. That was when an R32 GT-R would set you back $110,000 Back to the subject at hand though....... SAU = Great forum !!! Cudos to those responsible.

Nitrogen Filled Tyres
TokyoTaxi replied to d00dz's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
This is only my opinion !! I believe that Nitrogen inflation is worth the measely $10 or so per corner as I understand that it's more stable temperature wise and has less of a tendancy to leach out over time ( based on things I've learned from 18 years in the aircraft industry ). Allowing these attributes are accurate, it's a small price to pay for a decent gain. Really, think about how much most of us spend on our cars and now think about $10 per corner ?!?!?! C'mon...... Yes, heavy commercial aircraft use nitrogen inflation in their tyres but also, it's very necessary considering that the tyres spend a large period of time in an enviroment of -35 deg C or colder and then get dropped out and incur extreme loads and often extreme temperatures. I guess in the end, it's $40 and can't do any harm so.......why not try the nitrogen inflation for yourself and make your own judgement based on your findings. My 2 cents. -
Check where your head unit is earthed to. I've seen the same thing before and it was just an earth issue. Earth your head unit somewhere independant and that should fix it. It did on the car I fixed.

Clutch Question
TokyoTaxi replied to Player_Hater's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Um....Yes you can !! I have an R32 GT-R OS Giken Twin Plate in my R32 GTS-T w/RB20DET So long as the clutch is a "Push" Type ( 89-92 GT-R's from memory ) they are interchangeable. -
OK, so that's along the lines of what I was thinking........and I don't want to chance any damage. So, if non-resistor plugs provide a performance improvement ( I'm led to believe ) but can upset the baby, what's the best option in resistor equipt plugs ? Also, has anyone ever tried any "out of the ordinary" style plugs like "Beru" or "Golden Lodge" etc ?
-
Yes, I have done a search and spent a lot of time reading but I still don't have a clear picture. For an RB20DET do you use resistor equipt spark plugs or those without ? I'm using PFR6A11 gapped at 0.9mm & running 1.1 bar of boost at the moment and they are "OK" I guess, but I've seen people recommending plugs like BCP6ES ( non-resistor ). Can enyone tell me which one is better to use and why ? ( Things like performance / price etc. ) Also, is there a chance that using non-resistor plugs can hurt anything ? Really appeciate your input.
-
The only input I can offer is that one of the guys here at work has one ( 4 cyl 2003 model from memory ) and it's been in the shop under warranty 7 times. I don't know if there's any way to find out the frequency of warranty work carried out for a particular make / model of car, but it could be worth looking into to see if this is common or not. Hope that helpfull in some way.

Aluminium Fluid Fittings - Sydney Area ?
TokyoTaxi replied to TokyoTaxi's topic in General Maintenance
Thanks for the help guys. I have the lines & fittings made up now. But when all is said and done, I just can't understand how you can buy a complete oil cooler and relocation kit that's made in China for $350 which includes EVERY part, fitting, and line you need, and then you go to a product specific shop that makes JUST 2 oil lines up for you and charges you $340 !!!! The place I went to even charge you for each small squirt of thread sealant they apply when making up the lines !!!!! And people wonder why we don't support the local economy <_< ** end rant ** -
