  1. LOL, nah i was just curious to see how hard it actually was, and i needed a boost controller then, not 3 days later. cost me about $35 to make
  2. nope. that was just for the T piece, 2 hose fittings and spring. i had a bearing at work, as well as a bolt and nut, although i had to tap a new thread into the fitting as the original one was different to any bolt i could find (i think partly because it is tapered)
  3. could be that the compressor is stuffed and the squealing is the compressor seizing up enough that the belt is slipping. this could also be the reason why the air con is no longer cold. or it could simply be that it needs regassing (to make it cold again, but not to get rid of the squeal).
  4. i made a copy of a turbotech boost controller with stuff i could buy from autobarn and it worked well too, but worked out to be a few dollars more than buying a turbotech
  5. oh and hockenheim might be in gt5 too!!! http://www.gtplanet.net/hockenheim-circuit...gran-turismo-5/
  6. yeah that was my theory as well, but then it comes down to how big the production was that they brought fowards. or if they were only 3 days late, you think that they could just do a 18 day run instead of a 21 day run, as this would allow them to do a 6 million copy run instead of a 7 million copy run, which you would assume would still be more than enough to cover pre orders and still provide a decent amount of excess stock.
  7. oh right, never mind then. in australia some states have laws restricting what cars you can drive on your provisional licence (licence you have for the first 3 years after getting off your learners licence). similar to canada's G1 or G2 licence
  8. yeha i wasn't sure on what the story was with the later ones, but i thought the issues were worst on the r32's, which is what i meant by "from what i understand they don't have oil starvation issues like the 32's did".
  9. nah, with the stock ecu if it sees more air that it has mapping for it just chucks the shits and shuts down. below that point though the ecu has mapping up to the point that the AFM maxes out (generally speaking, although in the case of the skyline ecu it has a secondary protection in it which kicks in much below this). the ecu won't start leaning things out until it gets to 100% of the AFM voltage, or 100% of the injector duty cycle. which as most people will tell you happens at well above 200kw. in my case, i was running 12psi and my afr's were still down around 10.5:1, while a tuned ecu would be aiming to have them around 12:1, which is about 15% leaner. even an aftermarket ecu should be tuned to handle more airflow than what it was actually tuned for. it might not be all that accurate, but it should still handle a boost increase as the tune should've been done to cover the load cells higher than what it actually normally used.
  10. sedan looks good in this pic, as does the hatch, but once you look at it from other angles then the hatch starts to look better
  11. ah yeah, didn't notice that you were across the pond. yeah i don't see sony letting it miss xmas either. sony has a large amount of control over blu-ray production (since they jointly developed it with another company), so you'd think they wouldn't have too much trouble finding a 3 week slot for production of a game that is going to outsell probably all the movies that would be made in that time, as well as games. but i suppose they probably still have to honour any contracted delivery times for stuff they have already got signed up. i don't think the next delivery date will be announced until the game is very close to being finished production (including burning to disc). i think that they know that announcing another date only to have it delayed again would seriously damage their image, more than any of the previous delays have. every delay does more damage than the last.
  12. either had the cluster put in, or less likely, it was a turbo car and has had a non turbo engine put in it to possibly try and get around P plate laws, or simply was the cheapest option after having blown the engine. never really worth paying attention to the kms on an import anyway as most of them had the kms wound back before they left japan.
  13. i still prefer the hatch
  14. see now i i get what you are saying. i love GT, and hate a lot of other racing games because they handle like crap. but then the older games like NFS were fine because the handling was that unrealistic that it was still good. then the NFS games started to try and get serious. i think pro street was the first one to go like this from memory. the handling on it was terrible.
  15. where did you see that? on the ebgames australian site it still says TBC, and the american site says 1/1/2011. i honestly don't think anyone actually knows yet.
  16. talk to the place where you are going to get it tuned. what they prefer to use is going to be the best option as they will be able to do the best tune on that ecu compared to a different one. the tuners knowledge of the ecu is more important that the type of ecu you get as that will determine the quality of the tune when it comes down to the finer details.
  17. +1. he's wouldn't be the first aussie to win the F1 world championship. he would be the 3rd. jack brabham won it 3 times (1959, 60 and 66), and alan jones won it in 1980
  18. in my opinion, yes. you want it to be a few inches from the turbo outlet so that there isn't going to be turbulence (so having it on the compressor housing like some turbos do isn't the best place). you also want the hose to be as short as possible as this minimises the amount of flex/expansion in the hose. having it in the plenum isn't ideal as the flow of the air will actually create areas with higher and lower pressures. it's not like a ballon where once blown up the pressure will be equal everywhere, areas in the direct path of the airflow will have a higher pressure than areas where there is turbulence and not as much airflow.
  19. how is upping the boost going to induce pinging on the stock ecu compared to getting the thing tuned? the stock ecu runs relatively sedate timing and more fuel than required. you have more chance of pinging with a tuned ecu as they will increase the timing and reduce the amount of fuel. if you have pinging at 12psi on the stock ecu then you have a fuel issue (such as a dying fuel pump) or your timing is majorly advanced, or you have poor fuel. the stock ecu will start to get to the upper limits of it's range at about 12 or 13psi. if i was you i'd just go for 11 or 12psi. that will keep you in the range of not hitting any ecu limit as well as still be ok for the turbo. that said, i had a remapped ecu and i was running 14 to 15psi on the stock turbo for quite a while and never had an issue (and others i know have done the same), while other people i know have blown the stock turbo at stock boost. it is just luck of the draw really. as for the nistune, value for money they are probably the best ecu upgrade on the market for skylines. they are about half the price of a powerFC and will give you pretty much the same results. only downside is that you don't get the wank factor of a hand controller. oh and turbosmart boost controllers aren't worth the money. the cheap $30 turbotech ones hold boost much better from my experience.
  20. pretty sure the tacho would get it's reading from the CAS via the ecu. it's more than likely either a dodgy wire or dodgy tacho itself that is the problem
  21. *puts up sign saying "don't feed the spammers"
  22. at under 8k you are mostly going to be looking at somewhat poor examples of either car, although if you go an auto 33 you should be able to find an ok example for around 8k. not sure on prices on soarers.
  23. the alternative to engine out is to strip the car to a bare shell leaving only the engine in. it sounds like this guy took that option without realising it was the worst of the 2 options, as you are often then still required to remove the engine a few times to take out multiple components in the process
  24. yeah as boz said, go the 6's with the taller top. will make slightly better contact with the coil and being a hotter plug will be less prone to fouling. you aren't running enough boost to bother about 7's.
  25. yeah take them for a drive. soarers have a better engine but they are mostly auto and the digiatl dash is ugly. both go well with mods.
