Yeah I wouldnt worry about rebuilding it if you have no reason to - ie if you dont plan on making big power or the engine isnt showing signs of needing a rebuild. As people have said, do some solid maintenance on it (timing belt, water pump, idler/tensioner, and a good overall service at the same time, oil, plugs, coolant etc), and it should last for a while yet

Quick related question here: Would there be any merit in fabbing up a fibreglass snorkel to replace the stock one while using the stock airbox? Basically to get a ram intake effect? Just noticed that the stock one has airflow dividers and looks like it might be a bit convoluted in terms of flow, thought it might be possible that a custom one with a bigger opening perhaps extending a little lower down into the frontal airflow could be beneficial?

Yeah, agree with manwhore. Possibly concentrate on improving oil control to stop starvation of the bottom end. And yeah, oil cooler, good maintenance, and also some gauges (boost, oil temp + pressure, water temp, perhaps EGT or wideband also) to keep a close eye on things. Frequent fluid changes and making sure nothing overheats should keep it running pretty much indefinitely Id think
