Yup point taken regarding the SS1 falling away. My only point is that the SS1 still has an extra 400rpm of response. My SS1 has 20psi by 3200rpm whereas this needs over 3600rpm to get to 15 or 20psi (both 9 sec ramp rates). I do think its a great overall turbo though but you do loose response for the gain in top end. I do like the sound of lower exhaust manifold pressures though. Whats the deal with the boost falling away on both boost settings? Tao's setup doesnt normally do that. Other point is the way it hits torque looks very sudden and like it might be hard to get the power down to the road. BTW Trent I am ready for a tune, sent you guys an sms. I know your going to WTAC but keen to book in for next week if possible

You do realise the point right? Using a turbo of this size would mean no Z32 air flow meter or larger injectors would be required. Huge $$ saving. Its great to have all different options to give the customer choice.

I am selling a 3" straight through diff back exhaust containing a brand new difillippo cannon muffler, 5" tip from a fujitsubo exhaust and hangers to bolt up to factory skyline brackets. Just paid $200 for the muffler and had everything else fitted to it for another $100. This was to replace my fujitsubo rear muffler that had a 2.5" restriction. I then decided to up to a 3.5" diff back exhaust. Muffler is less than a month old. Sell for $100 for quick sale. Jeff 0400648813 Located in western melbourne.

Anything from the nismo 740cc up will be fine. I am running 800cc and was told I had plenty of injector left at those power levels.

+1 Disco! A mate had his engine rebuilt with a lower compression 9.2 down to 8.5 and with the GT30 turbo it made it less responsive and only made the same power. He then changed to a GT35 which made it even less responsive but obviously more top end power once on boost. As far as a street car it was better with the original higher comp engine. Low comp is only if you really want to lean on the engine and as said above these days its still not necessary. My understanding is the RIPS RB30s are mostly standard compression.

Just get a super responsive turbo on your car. The only difference then will be the launch that the evo will have the awd over you.

Too late it was quoted by Hanaldo Waits for the evo fan club to arrive...

My searching says Evo 7 curb weight is 1,320–1,400 kg. The difference in 0-100 between an Evo and a GTST or GTT would be traction on launch. The above example is a GTR versus an Evo, there is a decent weight difference between those.
-
To me that is a lot different to the way I read your first statement. This makes a lot more sense. So you are saying the Evo4 was EVEN with the GTR in 1st gear, then the Evo4 got ahead for a short time when the GTR caught back up and passed it from then on. Even a small difference in weight can make a big difference in acceleration there is no denying that. I used to have a turbocharged commodore weighing in at only 1300kg and even with a moderate power figure of 225rwkw it was even with many 300rwkw cammed LS1's that would have weighed an extra 200kgs or more.

Oh I understand now! You were disagreeing with GTScott, gotcha. I thought you were disagreeing with me.

Both launching hard? Was the GTR getting wheelspin? Dont want to start a big discussion but just a quick bit of info on why this is the case. Is it the close gearing of the evo? Too much evo love on this forum for my liking haha

My gearbox does the same thing if I am not really nice to it changing into 5th. Once I realised that I just be nice on that change, fixed. Havent had a noise since. My 3rd gear is absolutely fine though, can do all sorts of nasty things. There is too much pro Evo talk on this skyline forum!! Even if it all makes sense Disco

I call bullshit, 270rwkw R32 GTR looses to a stock 140rwkw Evo4?? What the hell was wrong with the gtr?????
-
Yup no chance on a launch, but further down the road, for example a second gear launch should see the skyline out in front.

SargeRX8 if you think a laggy 240rwkw is good wait till you either bump the boost up or get a responsive 240-250rwkw turbo!
-
Good summary, so worth it if you have extra fuel flowing capacity but if you need to upgrade much dont worry about it. I made sure I got a larger fuel system then necessary so I had the option and just the cost of a quick tune to change to E85.
-
Is it on the RB30DET in your ride section? If so, keen to see the response and power it made!
-
280rwkw seems a touch high with the SS1 Prototype. You are already running 22-23psi above 4500rpm. The fact that the boost increases as rpm rises would be the reason why the torque does as well.
-
Apologies Tao I missed the ramp time differences. Having a closer look at this latest turbo, the torque curve could actually be very practical on the street. Instead of the usual hit of peak torque in mid rpm and then tapering off, this turbo makes a solid 400Nm of torque through the midrange and then steps it up again in the higher rpm. This would give a great feel of holding the rush, not to mention giving the tyres some hope of getting traction in the mid rpm (in lower gears)! +1 for the ATR43G1, ~230rwkw without replacing injectors or AFM is prob the best bang for buck street setup on an RB25. I came from larger engines where response wasnt an issue and fell for the peak power game initially.

SargeRX8 bought the demo SS-2 that was used on Tao's car. Tao will sell normally sell the demo turbos he uses for a cheaper price. He would have given you the brand new prices for a new turbo to be built. Both Hypergear turbos I have used have been ex demo turbos. Really keen to see some more SS-2 results on other cars.

I reckon the SS1 had better response in terms of torque and power but the boost response is 1-200rpm better of with this new turbo. The SS1 does not have the midrange hole in torque either. See my results: http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/index.php?app=core&module=attach§ion=attach&attach_rel_module=post&attach_id=336318 http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/index.php?app=core&module=attach§ion=attach&attach_rel_module=post&attach_id=336319 Bear in mind my top end is lower then it should be due to a restriction I am currently diagnosing.

The SS1 also made 264rwkw and did not have a torque hole in the mid range. I think the SS1 and SS2 are both fantastic turbos and cover the super responsive 250-260rwkw (SS1) and the 280-300rwkw with good response (SS2) markets. I think you should focus on doing batches of these to bring the price down and get them out there.
