Petition Against Speed Camera's
Harey replied to yellow300zx's topic in General Automotive Discussion
+1 I think driver training is a huge issue in Australia. Driving is a complex task and as long as the government tries to solve the problem with simple fixes such as 'slow down' the road toll will not drop and the problem will remain. I saw a learner driver doing 20km/h under the limit in the right hand lane of a 4 lane freeway the other day, I wonder what other great driving tips this parent is providing. How long till a strategy is classed as "FAILED"? Why do we not look at other successful examples of road systems around the world? -
Petition Against Speed Camera's
Harey replied to yellow300zx's topic in General Automotive Discussion
How is excessive defecting of cars on topic?? If its simple to do the stupidly slow speed limits, how hard is it not to mod your car?? So your suggesting that red light cameras are ONLY out to get drivers that blatantly runs red lights?? Yup the government really care how they get their cash... -
I wouldnt use a high flowed GTT turbo by GCG as the main benefit is the standard exterior for legal reasons. Sure its a reasonable turbo but for the cost of over $2k you can get a much better turbo. I would be careful that you dont completely strangle the engine with a restrictive turbo, I wouldnt go any smaller than a 3071 on a 30. How bout a 3071 with 0.63 housing? That would be ridiculously responsive.

How To Get Impurities Out Of My Wheels

These guys seem use aircraft stripper to remove the clear coat: http://forums.corral.net/forums/showthread.php?t=763405 They just say it takes a bit more effort to keep em clean. Its only the dish of my wheels so dont have little nooks and crannys that would be tricky to keep clean. Would love the rims to have a super shiny dish I am leaning towards removing the clear coat. -
How To Get Impurities Out Of My Wheels
Harey replied to Harey's topic in Exterior & Interior Styling
Your right on the money here, the dish does have a clear coat. I started with the steel wool and it wasnt doing much, so I went a bit harder and I could see it take the clear coat off and go down to metal. I have only done this in one small area. What issues does removing the clear coat raise? Should I remove it or just leave it there and give up. -
Hahaha yeah you dont mind hearing a turbo whine when your giving it some stick, but not when your just cruising on the highway. As said previously, stock airbox will stop the noise. Other option is to get a bigger turbo that doesnt spool when cruising on the highway

Yeah true for 25kw I would prob prefer 500rpm of response.

Few Questions Regarding Upcoming Mods
Harey replied to Trozzle's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
That does sound good. Another option I had a quote from GCG Turbochargers for a similar kit: We can supply a kit which consists of the following: -GT3076R with Garrett T3 5 Bolt turbine housing -Spacer Plate -Studs, Nuts and all Gaskets -Oil and Water line kit -Silicon elbow for intercooler plumbing -Stainless dump pipe Cost: $3000 as of 9th Feb 2010. Not sure if that kit still exists at that price but I assume so. I can vouch for GCGs excellent service and after sales support! -
I think the R34 looks better than the R35 anyway. Its only the mechanical stuff that makes the R35 soooo much better.

Anymore info on 'suspension done'?
-
Everyone is different and likes different things. Yes I agree that sounds quite practical for someone that likes power quick to find in any gear. Some people like the rush of no boost to full boost. Some people have autos, some have manuals, some are used on the track, some are used at the drag strip and some babied down to the shops. I dont agree with "Response and low down power is where it is at", I think its a compromise between low down, mid range and top end power. If all you want is low down power and response then buy a V8!!! Obviously there is more to it. And the compromise you make depends on each individual driver, their setup and their intentions for the car.

Coilovers Or Spring And Shocks?
Harey replied to cptpugwash's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
I paid around $1300 for my Bilsteins a few months ago from Heasmans with the sydney kid valving. Not sure if that was extra or if its more for an R34. But I got the king springs for $220 so I made some back there hehe VERY HAPPY -
Using the 1/4 mile calculator, with a perfect launch you could run a 12.9!

What 60'?

A 250rwkw that pulls mid 13s must have some serious traction/suspension issues. It would still run a good mph and smash a new WRX from a rolling start. I think you just like saying chequebook Not everyone has the facilities to do work on their own car. My previous car I did all the work on but now I live in an apartment in the inner city and have nowhere to work on it so used my 'chequebook' to have a cooler fitted and a nistune. Have I wasted this money... I certainly dont think so.

Coilovers Or Spring And Shocks?
Harey replied to cptpugwash's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
+1 for bilstein shocks and king springs. I replaced some japanese ohlins coilovers with these and its sooo much better. I did gain some more body roll but with sway bars its all gone. Now I fly around corners smoothly taking the bumps instead of bouncing around loosing traction at bad times. Best thing I have done. -
Wow thats a great price!

What sort of price does a T67 go for? Interesting to compare it to the Garrett turbos. I did some searching but greddy dont have any prices on their site and ebay have ones for 900 bux but who knows what they are.

I dont know where 80k came from, but whats with the negative skyline talk?? Yes Evos are great cars but they are still a money pit. Spend 5-10k on a skyline and you will beat an EVO in a straight line no probs. Yes around a track might be a different story but how many of us regularly track our cars? I think both are great in different ways. Spending heaps of cash on any 'non classic' type car is always going to be a money pit. Not many of us will be able to afford genuine 11 second factory cars like an R35 GTR etc. Modifying a cheaper car is the only way we will ever be able to have something that fast. Yes you will loose money but so will owning a 200K supercar. Just have to start thinking about insurance and depreciation for it to become very expensive. Not knocking either, just different paths. Both ways can work out well for different people but both will cost money.

Max Boost The Standard R33 Turbo Can Deliver?
Harey replied to Torques's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
It has to do with all of those things. It gets pretty complex, basically a turbo will efficiently flow a particular range of airflow. Outside of this range the air temp rises and all sorts of bad things. Thats the technical explanation
