  2. The motor will be heading off to the machinists for all the regrind of the crank, and a rehone on the block and a bore to match the cylinders. In respect to the cause of dead bearing. It's appearing to me as a mixture of oil surge, and an over rev (Should have stayed up in 3rd gear instead of attempting to accelerate in 2nd, as 2nd just spun the wheels instantly). So I'll be looking to increase the volume of the sump, as well as baffle it (And a bigger oil pump). Now, by ensuring clearances and tolerances, you're talking plastiguaging the bearings etc? I've never done that before, so I have NFI on how to do it. Any one care to elaborate for me? And by build, yes, I mean assemble. Will be getting all machining done off at a workshop that specialises in it.
  3. Hey guys, I've got an RB25/30DET in my R33 at the moment, Problem being, it decided to spin the big end bearing. What I want to do is pull it all out, and rebuild it. The biggest problem I have... I've never rebuilt an engine before. If following the manual, and doing everything slowly, are they really that hard to rebuild? Are there any special "tricks" to rebuilding the bottom end of an RB30?
  4. There is also no actual LAW stating those warning signs for speed cameras have to be there. So you won't get away witht he "But there was only 2 speed warning signs" added to that, nearly every single one I've passed has a speed limit signed tacked onto the side of the speed camera warning one.

  6. If you're using it for circuit work, the best way to keep it reliable, is to look at your oil supply. Engines are not a fan of oil surge, and these motors are known to surge on the track... Mine did...
  7. It's an old hose, that is starting to dry up, and lose it's ability to seal. Time to replace.
  8. Hang on... How did the oil "get everywhere" if all the hoses were on? If it were all plumbed up, all blow by would be sucked back into the motor and burnt up... If it had a catch can, the catch can would be full/over flowing in to the intake... If you left off the cross over pipe, it'd spew oil all over the engine bay, and thus, you just need to connect it up!

  10. I'm with SK and the others... Takes a few days to get the cold tune and RUN perfect... Yeah, can get the car to start and idle fun, but getting it to drive off without a cough or stutter... Big difference, getting all the extra loads perfect... They're the master points!
  11. Hey guys, I run a set of the yellow jacket coil packs that Performance Wise offers. To set the scene, picture an RB30 block, built to "nissan spec" (Now, I use this term loosely, as the whole motor seems to have been poorly put together when I bought it, but that's another story) Sitting on top of that is an RB25DE head, with some nice porting done. Slapped to one side resides a 6Boost high mount manifold, with a bit of a mix and match turbo, that brings boost on F'ing hard at 4000RPM. Now, I was running a set of split fires, they never really missed a beat... Well that was until they met the end of their life, just days before the car got strapped to the dyno for a full tune... Split fire melt down... Catastrophically... So in went the Yellow Jackets. Nice smooth idle again still, and "clean" revving, as much as the engine could, on such an over fuelled, out of tune fuel map. So onto the dyno the car rolled. Pushing at 3600RPM, and 5PSi of boost, the car was making 193RWKW... Now this dyno appears to be reading VERY low of late too, but we don't really care for read outs. Anyway, we start to allow it to rev up... Only to find that as we pass 4500RPM no matter what we do with the dyno, strapping, tyres, ANYTHING, we can't stop the car from wheel spinning... In the end, the car rattled off a healthy 340RWHP, @14 PSi with a very well lowered red line, (Valve float up above 6000 - 6500 RPM.). Air fuel ratios were kept in check at a nice and rich 11:1, with not a lot of ignition timing, so the setup over all has alot of fuel to burn through, under pressure. The coil packs never missed a beat, and that included the next day when the car rolled up to Oran Park raceway to go for some sprints around the GP circuit... Now this day showed how much torque (And hence, how well these coil packs were doing) when I attempted to pull out at 70KM/H in 3rd and speed up to 110KM/h on the Hume, only to find wheel spin as I passed 80KM/h... And most of my time at Oran Park was met the same way, attempt to prod the throttle in 3rd gear whilst doing 110KM/H was met with a pure roar of wheel spin. I only really did it in 3rd, as I never really bothered to touch 2nd, as it was just wheel spin with any throttle opening... That was until the car spun a big end bearing anyway... But again, another story...

  13. I think in the beginner class I clocked out at around 190km/h a few times according to speedo... I reckon the others in group 1 and 2 were going hell quicker though!
  14. When my car decides to run, it's flutter sounds near on identical to the video of the R34 posted earlier... Ask RISKIN how it sounds... When it doesn't miss fire... LOL
  15. Yet in NSW the EPA does random road side inspections... And they will slap you with a 10K fine in NSW if found on the road like it.
  16. Come in off Bald Hill, do the run from Bald hill back towards Sydney. It's WAY more fun that way, AND there's no entry gate on the Bald Hill end... Hence no issue of having cops called... PS, I've done nasho twice now in 3 days... The top is all ripped up still, and will make cars want to walk all over the place, other wise the new sections are sweet! The old sections are still as damn hairy and fun as they used to be.

  19. I destroyed a bearing at OP GP on Friday... I'm currently weighing up an LS2 in there instead of rebuilding the RB30 bottom end... Stu: Got any sources for getting crate LS2s?

  22. Aww, I feel special... All this flag waving from you and Chris... I was very tempted to take it 4WD and cross country it, but didn't know what the infield would be like, so attempted to keep her off the racing line and out of everyone's way... Half thought of pulling over, but that would have just ruined the session for people. Motor was already f**ked by that stage... Had to drive it up onto the car trailer this morning anyway... Unfortunately leaving skylines over night doesn't make them self heal... Ah well, it goes to the mechanic end of July... Then we'll work out what to do, but I'm thinking a cheap fix of another stock RB30 bottom end, and while that's getting murdered, having the other block fully built with a dry sump setup to prevent the age old oil surge from happening. Was still a great day, and I can proudly walk away saying "I've driven Oran Park GP Circuit... And decimated a motor out there too" LOL 150KMs on that motor after run in... And who was the first person there to inspect how well I'd spun a bearing... Duncan...
  23. So were you the one flag marshalling that I had to give the thumbs down to as I drove past with a massive big end knock? I was tempted to drive with the hazards on, but the guy in the drivers brief said to ignore all indicators... LOL
  24. It would have been the lap after this one, my engine started knocking and asking "any one home?" Looks good though pitched on the front with brake lights on.
  25. Gotta say thanks to EVERYONE who put this day together. And I wish I were feeling as "uber" as everyone else, unfortunately, it's rebuild time... I believe my car was first casualty of the day... First session out was good, with Brad giving some handy tips. Second session out, I was enjoying it, until it ended early with an injector wire coming off. Third session out, I was having a ball, out there on my own, chasing two other cars around the circuit, up until around the 4th or 5th lap, where my engine decided to let loose a big end bearing... Car was insanely fun, wheel spinning at 130KM/H down the main straight... :)
