Idle Hunting. Yes, I've Searched.

You say you have a PFC When did it go in? Have you done an idle learn? -
Hoags: Speak to Terry, and if you can, attempt to get the HOD test done.

R33 Gts4 Engine Swap To A Turbo
MBS206 replied to HannibalK1ng's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Okay, SOOOO much wrong in what you've posted there... Yes, the sound is the air being chopped as it flows backwards through the turbo. NO, the turbo does NOT slow down from the air going backwards through it. It slows down as most people run the wastegate source off the intercooler piping, which, when shifting, is still seeing MASSIVE amounts of air pressure, so the wastegate stays open, and there's SFA air keeping the turbo going on the exhaust side. Mix with that a huge resistance, and the turbo slows, but now because of air going backwards through it. If it were so bad for turbo life, would nissan release the CA18DET without a BOV from the factory? Would Porsche run the GT3 especially in races without a BOV? Nope, they wouldn't. The BOV was introduced for emmisions reasons, on an AFM car you need it there for emmisions, and to stop the car stalling, unless you run an aftermarket ECU and can tune around this issue. I run a TD07 with a T04R comp wheel, and T66 exhaust wheel, ZERO lag between gear changes, and I run no BOV, why? My wastegate pressure source comes off the manifold, and helps keep the turbo spooled on gear changes AND my intake pipes are already pressurised as I re-open the throttle to slam air into the motor quickly and produce a shit load of exhaust gas to provide to the turbo. -
Mate, not kicking you whilst you're down. Trying to make you realise you're not a gun driver. I've got over 4 years driving experience, and I'm still learning. I've also got experience at skid pans and the likes, I've been shown in controlled conditions how cars react differently (And as a P plater driving a RWD, you might think, more throttle = over steer, but doing such things as the skid pan, you'll quickly learn it doesn't) Hell, I've made mistakes, I've completely trashed a twin turbo Supra by hitting a corner too quickly, I still cop shit for it now, nearly 15 - 16 months later. Get used to it mate. You f**ked up, and what makes it worse, you're claiming you're a "good skilled driver" hell, I don't think I can find a single P plater on the road that is as good or skilled as they think... I can chuck my ute around in corners harder and faster then what P platers I've ended up racing through the twisties can in a JZA80, R32, and R33 Skyline, and Sprinters... And hell, I wouldn't come near to claiming I'm a good skilled driver, but I could out perform all of these cars, in a much lesser vehicle... Yet each of those drivers thought they were the awesome... I'm trying to get you to learn. You need to firstly learn to ALWAYS pay attention whilst driving, secondly, if you're on a street you don't know, and especially if it has turns, slow down more then normal. I've got an R33, and I can turn some VERY tight turns at 40 - 50KM/h... Like, left hand 90 degree bends are easy at that speed... and I'm running standard suspension... And I don't slide out in the front... So I'd have to ask... How'd you manage to loose it, if you were doing the speed limit, and are a skilled driver? Or is it simply, over confidence, and this is the start of a learning curve? I've been in your shoes once mate, I know how it feels, but hell, at least you can just replace a few parts and get back out there... I smashed the whole front end in to the point I could change engine parts without opening the bonnet... Learn from it please, and learn quickly... No one is invincible, nor are they god behind the wheel!
-
You sound arrogant... Don't worry, so does nearly every single P-Plater and half the licenced drivers out there... You're a pretty skilled driver, but you weren't paying attention. Too quick into a corner. Hit kerb. Yep, pretty skilled there. 1) Skilled drivers pay attention. 2) Skilled drivers don't go into corners too quick 3) Skilled drivers don't hit things normally. 4) Skilled drivers don't start with "Not to sound arrogant, but..." You're a P-Plater mate, you still don't know the first thing about driving really except how to put it into gear, stop start, kinda turn, and change lanes.., Even then, half the P platers out there (And fully licenced drivers) can't do those things! Not to give you too much of a bashing, but you have A LOT to learn, and hopefully, you do learn from this accident (Unfortunately again, most P Platers don't, they just think themselves invincible)
-
WIdebands also generally last less time then a narrow band.

The car is P-Plate friendly in Victoria, where the car is currently located. Obviously each state is different. Hence, the car is Vic P-Plate friendly. Not NSW P-Plate friendly. Nice car, if this came up around 3 months later (Jan/Feb next year) I'd take a serious look at it. Unless you want to consider an R33 2 Door with a 25/30 in it plus cash this way.
-
I've often thought of doing the exact same thing... Or at least making an "engine" cover up that spanned out across the engine bay... Couldn't do shit then...

Wrong country...But crocodile Dundee should have been on the scene...

Please explain how "flutterz" does fuly sik damagez to the turbo? Turbos are designed to flow uni directionally, IE, no matter how much air you force backwards through a turbo, it won't move, it'll sit still. Force air the other way, and it'll spin. So really, flutterz can't even slow the turbo down... What does slow it down is the fact the waste gate stays open the whole gear shift IF you don't run the pressure source off the manifold... I run a T04R on my R33, and have ZERO lag or anything between gearshifts, and I have NO BOV, purely because I run my pressure source off my manifold.
-
Sometimes you get to a point you're not actually forcing more air in to create more pressure, you're just heating the air up and creating more pressure... Hence, you're running out of flow, it'll still boost higher, but it's just doing that by heating the air up only, not heating it AND forcing more air in...
-
Bumbebee, STFU, what WRRR is saying IS CORRECT!If X turbo, can supply Y amount of air, at 12PSi, and make 260RWKW, and you ADD another turbo, the ENGINE will still see Y amount of air, but each turbo will only supply Y/2 Air each. Hence, 2 lots of Y/2 air being flowed through each turbo, makes Y amount of air entering the engine. STFU, and stop posting, you're making this place look stupid.
-
If you take the RB26, and use ONE of it's turbos, the actuator still kicks in at 12PSi say, and you get x amount of air in CFM flowing through that turbo into the motor. Now add a second turbo, feeding the RB26, the actuators still kick in at 12PSi, but now, each turbo is moving x/2 CFM of air. Therefore, the turbo itself isn't working as hard, it isn't spinning as fast, and shouldn't be as hot. Mind you, the motor is still receiving X amount of air, because you have two turbos, pushing X/2 amount of air... Hence 2*X/2 = X... It's the flow of air through each turbo that drops, for the same amount of pressure. Pressure is just the resistance of the air entering the engine... It is not a calculation of flow.

Redo the wiring.
-
Get another known working ECU, and test it. Check the injector loom wiring. (Not just the plugs, but the actual wiring...)
-
Cams not set right? Valve float? You haven't mentioned springs that are being used... It looks like it ramps up quite nicely, and just noses over... As if the cams are set for response...

*Smacks head against wall* Back pressure KILLS power, you NEVER want back pressure, EVER. The choice of 2.5" is to do with harmonics, and gas flow speed VS cooling. Mainly, Harmonics. -
Well Its Been Figured Out.................
MBS206 replied to MissR34's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
*Yawn* Nice Tanty... As to why you "must" (PS, I never said you had to) I'd just like to see a touch of evidence that your missing power is back from something that can't affect it. MissR34: You seem very stuck up personally to me, and stubborn. You're unable to listen to those who KNOW what can and can't affect your PowerFC to alter it's fuelling and timing. Those of us who have told you the Knock sensors can't "fix" this missing power, would like to see how you magically got it back. Oh, and the last person I saw throw a tanty like that was about oh... 5 years old, and an only child... You really need to be less defensive of everything, open your eyes, and accept some Constructive Criticism. If you do, you might find your issue with the missing power. Hell, it could be just a set of plugs fouled, it could be bad fuel, your AFM might be stuffing up and want cleaning, you could have a vac leak. But there is no chance, knock sensors will affect the PFC. If you accept this, then those of us here, can help you find the issue. But firstly, you need to accept, knock sensors won't affect your tune AT ALL because you run a PFC. And this, is why people are saying your tuner may not be the best to listen to at the moment, as he doesn't seem to understand this fact from the PFC. -
Can agree majorly on the just "me time" thing badly! And the loud things to block out others. As to the leaving it outside... I found for me, I like those really really close that i have a brilliant emotional attachment to to know... So far... I haven't really found anyone close to me to let know... People know I've been depressed in the past, but not that I still feel it coming back on days, sometimes it lasts just hours, other times, weeks, sometimes a few months. But my car, my close friends, and my family are my life, they keep me sane... Hopefully long enough till I find a girl. But my most relaxing thing, or most lifting thing, is buying things for my car... Just earlier, I bought some new cam gears... Felt so damn good after it! My car, really is my release. So, who can I see for this HOD test to be done around Wollongong/Sydney, and how much will it cost?
-
When you put the cam gears on, they'll have a marking on them that will align to the backing plate. Set them to that. Then, the crank pulley as a mark on it, that aligns to a notch, align it to that. Put the timing belt on, crank motor over 2 full turns of the crank by hand, inspect these 3 markings still align properly. If they don't redo them.

I gotta say mate, I'm on two sides of this... I've had the anger management issues and depression before. For me, the counselling didn't do much, as really, at that stage, *I* didn't want the help. But years afterwards, I've reflected on things I've been told in those sessions, and from talking to other people, and now I'm completely different. To this day, I'll walk away from arguments etc as I can't stand yelling voices. But as for you, my brain is saying "stay strong, help sort her through it, you can do it!" as I know if I were in that position, it's what I'd be thinking. In fact, last year I was in a relationship where I was getting fairly used, and I didn't really realise this until after we broke up (She cheated, it ended) but now, I'm 100 times happier, yet I'm single, so nights can get rather lonely, and I really need my friends around me sometimes otherwise I crash down into depression. I found, I had to find my own ways to deal with everything, unfortunately, sometimes people find me a tad "cold" for it, as I do lock my inner self away from a lot of people, but it does help me not to go all angry style at the drop of a hat, but at other times, it can also cause depression issues... It's all about me getting my balance. Personally, I'd try the test that has been suggested, also the pill, yeah, that shit f**ks chicks up bad, then try and get her some one on one help, and a bit of group therapy, and I'd also suggest, get yourself some one on one help, or at least find a REALLY good friend that you can really open up to, a lot of guys have issues doing this, but it does help.

Just thought I'd check, as to me, when someone says "it's rattling at 3000RPM" I'd be thinking "OH god, engine is on it's way out and knocking" But if it's from the exhaust, and you're sure it's the exhaust note sounding "rattly" then that's all good. -
Whilst I like saying everything done to my car is all done in my garage, the blood sweat and tears sometimes doesn't feel worth it when shit all goes horribly wrong and there's major f'uck ups, as I find I quite often lose my focus, and interest for a while... Only right now, as I'm getting things back together am I starting to be slightly happy... Although it's still stressing me money wise that I may not quite finish everything when I want too...
