  1. Yeah give me a couple of months and I'll let you know how RB30 + GT35R goes Also, if you're rebuilding, there's no significant difference between building a 25/30 and rebuilding a 25. Short motor generally means bottom end and head, no manifolds, turbos, injectors or ancillaries. 20thou and 40thou is thousands of an inch oversize, i.e. if the bores are scored and you need to bore them out then you would be going 0.020" oversize etc. An example is my crank, I had it ground for 0.010" (0.25mm) oversize bearings.
  2. I have been toying with this idea for quite some time, was going to use old desktop components but have found that recently there are a few Australian sites carrying carpc equipment (mini-itx boards, cases etc) so when I've got a bit of spare cash I'll be grabbing some stuff and putting it together. Doing it cheap though so no touchscreen and stuff, I'm not doing it for entertainment purposes, pretty much purely for diagnostics. Tristan, let me know if you want to chat about this stuff I've already got a consult cable and I bought Datascan, I just got sick of plugging in the laptop everytime I want to check something out
  3. I give it the time it takes to smoke a cigarette. Cool down, I just don't thrash it for the last few blocks to my house then give it the time it takes to grab my wallet, phone etc. If I've just hammered it into my driveway I'll give it a minute or so.
  4. Nice work
  5. Point being for certain engine upgrades you won't need engineering. My RB30, even though it's a full litre increase (50%) they didn't deem to need engineering. Most likely because it looked factory and with only an RB25 turbo on there it wasn't insane, similar to stock response but just with a shitload of nuts down low. I believe in taking things in steps instead of rocking up to the pits with a 50% larger engine with a 600hp turbo hanging off the side and then hoping it's going to get engineered and passed. I have the engine installed and licensed, when I go to get it legal after the GT35R goes on then the whole 50% more capacity is a problem I won't have to deal with.
  6. 7k will get you built internals, or a bunch of bolt ons, not both. Go read through the RB25 sticky in the Forced Induction forum.. Or you could build a cheap 30 Really depends on what your goals are.. you could easily blow 15-20k on internals if you really wanted to.
  7. Personally I think it would be easier to get the car registered with the new engine without a high mount etc, then once it's all legal put your high mount on and go for permits/engineering..
  8. I got a yellow sticker (kind of unrelated..) just after I put the 30 in, went of the pits, they checked engine number, notarised it, and I was on my way with a legal RB30 under the bonnet As long as you don't have a bigass highmount turbo there should be no dramas and I'm pretty sure RB25 falls inside the capacity increasement zone.. with my 50% increase I was afraid they were going to make me get engineering certificates.
  9. The front indicators have 2 globes in them, sure both are working when it's happening?
  10. Could be a slightly leaky lifter?
  11. Yeah mine was the insides of the plugs (harness to coil) were old, brittle and falling apart
  12. Bad breathing setup?
  13. Northside Nissan is great, I get a lot of stuff through them
  14. Did you even look at the headlight globe contacts like I suggested? or are you just going to blow money and pay someone to fix what is likely very easy to do yourself?
  15. My mates' housemates' car was torched in their driveway in Mirrabooka a couple of weeks back
  16. Did you beat up on it?
  17. My motor is absolutely fine, doesn't breath any oil. When it had the 20 covers on it though, it pumped out so much oil it wasn't funny.
  18. No probs dude I think I paid just over $300 for my z32 afm and plug
  19. My guess is it's a 25 head issue.. but that being said, Raz's is a turbo head and mine (my motor is the original 30 that was in my mates car that breathed oil until the covers were changed) is a non-turbo head. Without the raised covers, with lots of revs it would breath a LOT of oil
  20. BLASPHEMER! I run 25 covers on my 30 with no dramas, GL Raz
  21. They have raised sections at the back to help the oil separate. I know when my mate first built his 30 he used 20 covers and it would breath a LOT of oil, swapping to 25 covers fixed it.
  22. No idea, best talking to some silvia people.. my 3.9's came out of an auto S13.
  23. Umm.. I think there's a BIG difference between a 33gtst/gtr box (as they are pretty much the same internals from what I gathered) and a 34gtr box. 34 gtr runs a Getrag 6spd, I believe this is the same box in the JZA80 3L supras, if Nissan asked for/made any alterations other than the transfer case, I can't say.
  24. The GTR injectors and z32 afm and remap will allow you to measure more air and whack in more fuel to match the extra air and the ecu remap by your tuner will allow him to smash timing in down low to make it less laggy and tune it properly for fuel/timing on boost (as opposed to a piggyback which is tricking the ECU). Have you got a new fuel pump in there? If you haven't, get yourself an 044 pump or something similar as if the pump is dying it won't be able to supply the fuel the GTR injectors will be trying to throw in
  25. ~2000rpm generally afm or piping loose, ~4-5000rpm generally coilpacks or coil harness (mine was coil harness related).
