  1. lol, sorry i'm a bit dense, didn't read all the posts between mine and yours. but yeah, it's not so much that it's a terrible thing to do. but like I said, stock flywheel with a/m clutch is not a wise idea. by all means get the jim berry clutch if you think it's the best option, just get a new billet flywheel to go with it. yes not all stock flywheels are just going to explode at random, but it does happen. and it happens enough to scare me of using one.
  2. yeah, it's a bit tough for everyone to see at once, but I think doug did a pretty good job of trying to get people involved. it was more interactive and I guess was really driven by the questions people wanted to ask. I know I learnt a lot with doug about setting up the 'traction rods' in the rear end which was something I had no idea about previously. and he was keen to get a few different cars on there to give people a look at their set-up (which I thought was very generous). I can honestly say the best alignment I've had in the past was done at heasmans. my car is going back to heasmans next week for some work after that. doug is going to try some stuff out for me with the traction rods. I will be keen to see what it's like as at the moment the rear end feels great but as soon as it brakes traction it goes into snap oversteer. partly due to the combo of big bars and big springs. had a massive moment in it last night in the wet which needed an huge armful of opposite lock and some rapid throttle control not to spin. the sessions with paul and gary upstairs were great too and I learnt heaps about shock valving and how the shim stacks work. it re-inforced my belief that if you are looking to buy some shocks for the skyline and don't have mega bux to spend that some bilsteins from heasmans is the way to go. as they not only sell shocks, they make shocks and they know how to set-up the cars too. All in all I was very happy with the way the night went. my only regret was I didn't try any of Paul's Chilli Prawns. haha. anyway I hope you guys will support them as they are a great business and without customers putting money in their till they wouldn't be able to re-invest as much as they do in the motorsport community.
  3. well I just spoke to Neil and they would be happy to run one again for us in the future sometime. Since we had 45 people interested but only around 25 turn up I'm sure we could fill another night maybe later on this year, or next year sometime for all those people who couldn't make it this time.
  4. adam mate, don't try and argue something with me I didn't say. I never said an off the shelf clutch was better. I simply said in my opinion re-using the standard flywheel with a clamping force tripple the stock one, and power double the stock engine is not a good idea. i never said jim berry makes a shit clutch. I think i've explained it enough as to why re-using the standard flywheel with a performance clutch in a performance application is a bad idea. talk to my friend bill how he felt about a piece of his flywheel grazing his hand on it's way through the cabin.
  5. we will have to agree to disagree on this one. and I wasn't saying it's the clutches fault. the problem is the stock flywheel works well with stock clutches, using stock clamping load. you get a machined or lightened stock flywheel and put a more agreesive friction material against it, and add a much higher clamping load and then big revs, big power and it's not a recipe for hapiness. I'm not saying they will fail every time. your car alone is proof it's not the case. but i have seen it happen probably a dozen times now (no not all in skyliens obviously) and a few of those have been friends of mine. one recently was at Oran park on the main straight. bits of it flew through the trans tunnel, and then through the car roof too... so personally I would never risk it. it's just not a good idea. for the few hundred $$ a good flywheel costs, or even a kit that comes with a new flywheel i think it's a good idea. by all means get the jim berry clutch if you think he is the god of clutches, but for your own sake put your standard flywheel in the bin.
  6. who is doing your towing DIF? cause unless they are just towing you from the begining of your driveway to the end of your driveway $50 is a damn good deal. a towie wouldn't even give me hand relief for $50 let alone the full flat bed service.
  7. farkin hell. can you believe the weather today? if there is a bigger slap in the face I'm yet to see it! damn you weather man. today would have been perfect. cool air temp, but warm sun, no rain. dammit! yeah ports. you point me in the direction of the next EC or OPGP day and I'm there. Don't care if it's being run by neo-nazi aliens and they are charging in deutschemarks as long as they will let me come and play.
  8. poor troy. not your fault though. it was the hand of god reaching out to touch you.....inapropriately that is. I disctinctly heard a cloud say: "Take that, Brisby" before a giant hand came down and flicked the rear end of your car.
  9. looks fine to me? was the damage on a side of the car not in the pic or something?
  10. good to see you on here Dave! Richard here, with the grey 32 GTR. the guy that parks in front of your house when visiting my mate in annandale! I am not involved with any cars in the state champs anymore but will definately come out and say hello at the next EC or Oran round. Good to see you doing well. What is happening with your under 2 litre car? We all have a soft spot for that one. especially as it sounds like it's going to suck someone in as it's going down the straight.
  11. so who was there today flying the SAU flag? I woke up this morning, saw the weather and decided to give it a miss. I'm a bit pissed as I was supposed to run at EC on Sunday for the super sprints, but got bumped out, and it was raining, then thought, oh well, I'll do the circuit club day, and again, raining. So I'm dead keen for either an EC day or an Oran Park GP day sometime in the next 2 weeks. who's with me?
  12. i would say it's mostly tuning. could be the bovs, but then again I've been running twin blitz bovs for nearly 3 years and never had any problems or stalling, or unstable idle etc. so they can be made to work properly.
  13. no worries at all. yep, I was the dashing young man in the ARC jacket. lol.
  14. normally I wouldn't post in someones for sale thread. but I was itching to when I saw yours. and since you asked for people to suggest a price I will. I would say around $25,000 would be pretty fair. If you want to know why I'll give you a few reality checks.
  15. probably say ET20 or +20 or ST20. either way the offset is +20.
  16. haha, no prob. happy to do it. and yeah, they had a tub full of VB and hahn. now THAT'S hospitality!
  17. that's ok, it was shithouse weather, and crazy traffic so I did expect a few drop outs. hence the overbooking. hell, it took me an hour and 20 min to get there in what is usually a 30 min drive!
  18. Well I hope all those that came had a good time. I'm glad I took 45 peoples names as we only had about 25 rock up which was a good number. A massive thanks to the guys at Heasmans. What a great bunch of people to put on a bbq, beers, soft drinks, free hats and calendars and of course lots and lots of invaluable info. I thought I was pretty clued up, but I learnt heaps both from Paul, Doug, and all the guys in fact. So a big thanks again to all the guys at Heasmans for having us at the shop and showing us some great hospitality.
  19. i don't really agree 100% with that. I agree that lightening a standard flywheel is a bad idea. and I'd agree that when replacing a stock clutch plate and pressure plate with a new stock clutch plate and pressure plate that it's standard practice so machine the flywheel and there is no problem with it. BUT when replacing a standard clutch with an upgraded (more agressive) friction material, and replacing the standard pressure plate with one that has a much higher clamping force I would personally NOT reccomend re-using the stock flywheel. it's a bad idea in my book.
  20. SAU NSW and SAU VIC are both cams affiliated clubs. I would go for an L2S, it covers a much wider range of events than the L2NS.
  21. yeah it's fine for 200rwkw. that's about as much as I'd go with a side mount though. but it could probably handle a bit more without being a restriction. my GTST was pretty stock. it's defintately of benefit if you want to wind up the boost a bit, or run a highflow, or R33 or R34 turbo etc.
  22. did your new clutch come with a new pressure plate/cover? if not that's what I'd be looking at.
  23. just keep googling, you will find it eventually.
  24. yes they can. or you could just repalce them with braided lines.
