Show Me Your Racing Machines
Beer Baron replied to screamin''s topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
nice GTST. I have to say that navigators foot rest is a work of art! can I ask who made that or where did you get it from? it's almost too good to rest a shoe on....almost. -
more like half your left arse cheek.... the good half. yeah agree with handley. the andra rules are so out of touch with reality. they expect you to buy a overpriced cereal box licence, and do a whole bunch of 'safety' mods to your car just so you can accelerate for 400m in a straight line and then stop at the end. this mind you is your street car that you can legally drive on the road, around corners, up hills, on a race track but not on a drag strip cause they reckon a $150K nissan with $10K worth of mods is far too fast. ps, well done. just like vin diesel in fast and furious you have a '10 second car man'. yahoo!

What Guages Should I Install?
Beer Baron replied to Randon_I_Am's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
personally if you are doing any track driving etc I'd get oil pressure too. the stock gauge is very slow moving and has only a small warning light. a proper gauge has adjustable low pressure warning and will have a buzzer and a light which can save your engine if you suffer oil surge or pump failure. fuel pressure is a good one and boost is obvious. water temp and oil temp are both important. i would probably go oil temp before water temp but it's much of a muchness. -
he might have been reaching for the F-uct as he took off as he knew he was fuct by that point... good little write up by mark webber on page 64 of today's daily smellograph. he makes a few points. one is that this is his first retirement of the season so far. not bad. also, until this accident he had finished every race in the points and is equal with the other 3 guys who have all won 2 races a piece. he is stringing together a pretty solid season no matter what and seems pretty bright about his prospects at silverstone.

good choice munro. will definitely come down when you're up here. I have been around phillip island in an SR8 and SR3 and it was nuts. did a few laps with garth behind the wheel and the first time we went down the straight I thought he must have had a heart attack and passed out as he 'forgot' to brake for turn 1! crazy stuff. like you say the package is just so impressive. you will love it mate. I've been through the workshop in eastern creek a few times too and it's a great facility.

lol, that too! or disengage that rear tyre oil filled cooling spray system!

ok, I have a few points: Am i the only one who noticed webbers dig at vettel in the post qualifying press conference? they are talking to vettel and he's crapping on about how great it is to be on pole (by 7 hundredths of a second mind you) and then turn to webber: he then says "well I just wasn't good enough for pole today, but I'm not going to come up with a whole list of excuses" lol. cop that mr "it wasn't my fault" vettel. He's probably to thick to realise webber was having a go at him. it also tells me things between these two aren't as rosy as RBR are making out. webber wasn't drafting. that was just a complete nonsense comment from martin brundle (who should know better). considering the lotii are 4 laps down on any given race and 3 seconds a lap off the pace it would be impossible for a bloke with the fastest car on the grid to 'draft' behind a lotus. he'd just be pushing it down the straight! he was trying to pass but got fcked when he found heiki in the middle of the road. heiki then blocked right as mark went to go to the inside, then when marked moved left to go around he moved left too. Mark saw it and tried to go right again but given that heiki also slowed at the same moment which created a big closing speed difference by then it was too late. like mark said he was a passenger. for heiki to be trying to agressively block mark like that is crazy and clearly unsafe. he is in the dead slowest car in the field and was trying to aggressively block the absolute fastest car in the field. great idea. no way. see above. heiki wasn't leaving anything open. he was blocking and even said so on the radio. if you watch the moves it's actually heiki shadowing webber to block him. agreed. it's shithouse. the most mickey mouse track of the year I reckon. 25 corners and all of them rubbish. why does spain need 2 GP's? i'd rather go back to 2 german GP's than have this. nurbring and hockenheim aren't exactly fantastic but they both beat the pants off valencia. yes he sure is gay. god I can't stand his ugly little mug and his giant ears any more. he is so manufactured and false. 100% see through. guys like michael schumacher may not be jumping up and down and screaming 'excitement machines' but at least they were honest in their behaviour. vettel acts like he just spent 6 months in "Red Bulls school of acting really excited and stuff".

So Who Bought An Ipad? And What Are Your Thoughts?
Beer Baron replied to Beer Baron's topic in PC & Games Discussion
ok that's not bad. I lol'd....on the inside... -
yep I put down $100 on a pre-order at EB games too. they said the same thing, no price yet but they are 100% getting them and he said price will be around $150. I laughed and said I highly doubt it. I said probably more like $180-$200. He was adamant that it will be around $150 but yeah I seriously doubt that. now we play the waiting game..... again....

fixed for you mate. it's one of my pet hates! lol.

Discussion Point
Beer Baron replied to Mr Eps's topic in Importing, Compliance, Modification Laws & Regulations
plenty of 90 models under the old 15yo scheme too. what year did they start production? -
I was going to say tyres straight away. I found the 35 very tailing on the track with the 19 inch R888s. great fun but not super fast. but ok, if you say it's still the same on stock rubber then clearly it's not 100% tyres (but I would still change them, the R888s are just not cricket on a 35 on track). I would start by changing alingment back to standard or close to it. even bone stock in alignment they do not have any 'evil' handling traits like you are describing. definitely continue with VDC off as well. like you say putting it into R will just slow you down. and they are very easy to drive even with VDC full off, especially for someone such as your good self with experience in a range of other quick cars. I would not just go out and start changing sway bars and coi-overs to fix the problem. these things should be pretty neutral and safe to drive from factory. if yours isn't then something's gone wrong. try and sort it first before you change too much as otherwise you might just be masking a problem. you could even take it to a nissan HPC to get the alignment taken back to factory settings. if you can't or don't want to do that then try heasmans. they can certainly follow any specs you give them, having said that if you get the factory alignment details you could take it to any competent wheel alignment place really. you definitely should not be spinning all over the place unless there is something wrong with the car or the driver! for this argument we'll focus on car.

dude! that is pretty hairy having your doors cut like that without a comprehensive cage with proper side intrusion protection. you are very exposed in the even of a side impact. You might even find many events with scrutineering will not allow you on track as that is massively unsafe.you might as well drive without doors at all. in fact that might be a bit safer than what you have now as whats left of your doors is likely to end up embedded in your body somewhere. seriously considering you have no roll cage at all I would either be running factory doors or get yourself a proper cage quick. the doors are heavy for a reason. they protect you from dying...

New Brakes For 32 What Brand Size?
Beer Baron replied to stimps's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
what's the budget? you realise upgrading to 'slightly' bigger brakes means new calipers, caliper mounts, new pads, new rotors and new lines. well actually there is an option to go to a bigger rotor with custom caliper mounts to space out your caliper the required amount but it's not ideal. certainly cheaper. -
ok, I'm about to order the US collector's edition from gamestop in the US but the shipping to aus is $35USD + $99 USD for the game so about $160AUD total. Is there anywhere more reasonably priced shipping wise or should I just go ahead with this one?
-
does anyone know any aus retailers that are taking pre-orders on the collectors edition?

Show Me Your Racing Machines
Beer Baron replied to screamin''s topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
about 3 or 4 years ago I was doing a track day at oran park GP circuit there was an older gentleman there with a S13 SR20 silvia that was set-up for dirt rally. It was very standard engine wise just running boost up, ecu and exhaust. he had spent all his money on the rest of the car. had proper long travel dirt suspension (was either DMS or MCA, can't remember), had proper cage, terratrip, coms etc inside and apart from that used khumo semi's (may have been slicks). anyway I went for a few passenger laps with the guy and it was actually one of the fastest cars on the day amongst some pretty good machinery. he said it was great on dirt too. he was running around a 1:18 lap time at oran GP which was bloody fast 4 years ago especially for a silvia that would have been putting out 150rwkw max. the guy was a good steerer though too. lovely guy, I wish I could remember his name, but he was competing with that silvia in NSW state dirt rally stuff. -
go for it buddy. if you have never driven an R35 GTR before then it's a great chance to do it. unfortunately your japanese girl friend will be almost 100% useless if she doesn't drive herself. it takes a bit of driving around in tokyo to get the hang of the ring roads and surface streets etc. if you can possibly get one with english navi that will help a lot, but at least since you have a native japanese speaker she should be able to work japanese navi for you. that will help a lot. as far as tolls go it's pretty easy. just have lots of cash with you! you basically usually get a ticket at the first toll gate, then when you get to your exit or the end of that particular toll road there will be another toll booth and you give them the ticket you got earlier (don't lose it in between!) and they then know how far you've travelled and hence how much you owe. they punch it up on a display and you pay the man. enjoy.
-
bummer. always sad to see an ex car of yours get fked.
-
lol. what?!?!
-
that's pretty harsh. my R35 was around $1500 per annum and exccess I think was $1000 from memory. sydney, garaged, driver over 25 but under 30. rating 1. it was insured for $160K. having said that the premium on my R32 GTR insured for $35K was around the same (well couple hundred less). go figure.

mmm collectors edition looks cool. damn them! they always suck me in with these special edition games of course none of the stuff is actually worth having.

R32 Mcpherson Strut Conversion
Beer Baron replied to nisskid's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
fair enough. I can understand an illogical attachment to a car that is not exactly suited to it's purpose. hell truth be told GTRs are rubbish circuit cars. there are plenty of options out there that are cheaper and just as (more?) fun but something about driving a highly tuned GTR around a track means we keep coming back for more.
