R32 GTR box to rwd for rb20 conversion. ASAP!!!
Bl4cK32 replied to dangerous_daveo's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
So whose the guinea pig :bananaman -
my front pipe had to have a small extender piece welded in. Due to the new height of the motor, the turbo sits higher also. Meaning that the dump/front you are looking at may require some cutting/welding to make it reach your turbo. Depends how flexible your exhaust is atm. I had mine chopped, as well as had some supports welded to the pipe so i could connect it to the gearbox for added support for the turbo etc...

thats because theres always money to be made supressing technology....

Very interesting in the wet...your able to keep the revs down and still get some tractions...just putt away and let the torque pull Mechanical diff hepls traction though..much safer i think than my old viscous diff... IF you like wet weather well....its damn fun and scary at times

So you went with the tranpath then Chris? Front and back?

HKS boost gauge FOR SALE (VIC)
Bl4cK32 replied to joseph_michael4's topic in For Sale (Private Car Parts and Accessories)
That loom in the 3rd pic is to wire up the backlight on the guage (make it go green as said). If it is a mechanical guage, then there would be a small connection on the back of the gauge to plug a small vacuum hose into.... -
id say the xtreme 9 puk ceramic clutch in my car was overkill. It was a xtremely (sorry ) heavy and a biatch to use in the car park. It also was part of the reason my clutch pedal box split into 3 pieces, popping spot welds etc. The OS giken twin plate in my car now is a more user friendly clutch, being no way near as heavy, and very nice in the car parks still. As for the r33 box in the r32...ive gone through it before...but oh well : U need rb20 part of tailshaft that bolts it to diff, custom tailshaft, r33 box yoke, r32 gtr speedo sender, r33 red cog off electronic sender, custom gearbox x member. Other than that it bolts up, and gearshift sits in the same spot as the rb20 box did.

Yup twin 2.5" system on and running Definitly a timing problem (i hope thats all). It should have all the teeth on the cas, as it was working when i had the rb20det still in there. Shaun fitted a set of STR adjustable cam gears for me when he got my car up and running, so i guess it may have happened then. Joel and my engines were built at the same time, and timing belts were fitted and set by the engine builder. Joels runs fine, where as mine.... From memory Shaun had trouble with it idling (q45 afm), and the cas is fully retarded....hopefully when it goes back next week, it can pick up the extra 50rwkw it was missing Oh yer only running 0.8 bar atm. The big turbs....well saving for a house deposit is sort of killing me atm as well as far as mods go

Yeah, my size is 225/50/16 all round. My front rims are 7.5" wide also. Dont really know if you can call em squirmy or not...they do me just fine in the dry or wet. I run them front and back. My last tyres were 205's on the front, and they feel the same as these 225's on now. Agree 225's are minimal for the back. I guess how much you spend depends on how hard you want to push your car then, eh Chris?
-
Sounds damn fine now. Not much louder than before. It doesnt even drone too much either. Im very pleased with it actually. Has a nice rumble to it. I wish i had it all running properly...was supposed to have it to 200kw @ the wheels already...
-
no worries....point taken
-
The mounting points (bolt pattern) on the blocks are the same, but the actual engine mounts are different between all model rb's ive seen. Rb20 is different to rb25, is different to rb26, is different to rb30 ....

The only reason i went with the cat replacement pipe was a time vs. cost factor. IE the $40 the pipe cost (thanks nightcrawler ) or the $550 odd for the highflow cat. Can anyone really tell a 10-15 rwkw difference (seat of the pants) driving their car?
-
If you want some cheapos Chris....I run Simex sm8000 i think they are. They hold up pretty well for me in the wet and dry. I was giving em a mild test before in the wet, and they were gripping well.....easy to control the throttle to bring on the wheelspin if thats your thing They are about $120 each when i got mine in January... Toyos are a good brand though.....

spotted : every P-plate 180 wanker losing control in the wet and calling it drift
-
Its not the pipe that didnt make *** all difference, its the fact the cars timing is off. Its 1 tooth out or so on the timing is why it didnt make any more power. The new exhaust with the cat replacement pipe did help it make more in the top by about 10 - 15rwkw....

I used "the Club" until last night.... managed to go to the nearest shopping centre near my gf's place and put on the club. Forgetting the fact the key was on my other set of keys at my place some 100kms away Called the local RAA (RACV, VAC whatever they are called in your area) and bolt cutters wouldnt cut it, and a hacksaw bounced off it. Hardened steel Had to call a locksmith who couldnt pick the star key lock, but had to drill out the barrel of the damn thing to get it off in the end....$110 later for the locksmith, and 2 1/2 hours of my time in the car in the rain.....im home

Yes its my rb31det. My engine is built to the exact same specs as Joels. (they were built side by side ) Turbo is a rb20det highflow jobbie (not done by me, but previous owner of the car). My engine only has a few bits like rb20det oil pump (joel used rb25det) bigger fuel system (550cc, 044) and q45 afm/pod. Other than that they are identical. I had some STR cam gears fitted when i had the motor installed, and Shaun reckons they may be a tooth out. I dunno myself, but it has to go back to get it all sorted in a week or two. Dont worry about it Maxx, we were justy finishing as Joel went to leave....it wasnt gunna make any more power yesterday unfortunatly
-
well, had the new pipe fitted, and exhaust put on. All sounded sweet. Then had the car put on the dyno where shaun started to give the car a tune to see what she could get..... Made absolutley SFA difference....the car makes about 133 odd rwkw last time i had it tuned before it started to struggle to make power. Now the top end is better, and it makes a little more power but she struggles like hell. It topped out at roughly 145odd rkwk then didnt make any more. Needs to go back to Shauns in a week or two for some problem solving. Might be cam timing is off, or something stupid like a boost leak.....who knows Im soooo pissed....but the car does sound very nice with its "free flowing cat" now
-
getting it all fitted and tuned today....will let you all know how it goes Thanks for the pipe
-
ok...it seems the flanges on my cat apperar to be the same as your replacement pipe nightcrawler. Can u pm me your number so i can pick it up? I need it tonight as my car goes into shauns tomorrow morning for a tune My cat is roughly 320mm long too...is that about the same as your pipe? Northgate aint that far from me either...in near tea tree gully.
-
Cheers nightcrawler. I'll check my exhaust tomorrow to see if its the same setup on my cat... everyone else ill keep in mind incase it isnt the same, as id prefer a bolt on solution
