  1. Well another point of interest that was raised last night is the move for a requirement of a minimum 4 point harness. It's not the case just yet but there is talk of it for 2006.
  2. Well Geoff - if you got some driving shoes I doubt you will regret it. Last year I bought some Addidas race shoes and the sole is so fine - and the "feel" of the car is consequently so superior over my runners I used to wear that I now hate driving my car in any other shoes! So now - who's going to be the first one to get a race suit!!? LOL.
  3. The "best" turbo will depend on what application you want it for. You want response, top end power, or what? It has been covered fairly well in the past. I found these threads to be of the most help. Happy reading. http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/sh...ight=Trust+2530 http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/sh...ight=Trust+2530 http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/sh...ight=Trust+2530 http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/sh...ight=Trust+2530
  4. Geoff - you have a seat BOLT through the mount so thats fine. But yes - they were funny on the whole shoes thing. We were asking the same thing last night - if I can wear a cotton long sleve shirt then why wont cotton socks suffice!? The guy that is the head scrutineer we have seen before at other clubs for scruteneering. And if you want to argue the point with them - as I know you love to do - feel free. But it's their event and their rules so.... As a club they are being very accomidating to us. Arranging for us to get to run together etc - including in the super sprints. So I don't have any problems conforming to what they want. Also I don't have any problems asking for flaggies from the club to help run the events and keep the entry costs down. They have a club rule that you cannot win any of their championships unless you have waved a flag at some stage during the year. This includes all WRX Club members. I have said as a club I would try and maybe do the whole event at Morwell - because I wont be encouraging SAU guys to run that round. It has been taken off our club championship for this reason. But some other people may like to have a session or two as a flaggy in other rounds - especially if they are just spectating - and taking photo's. There is no better way to get close to the action.
  5. Get a big Trans Am Firebird Bird sticker on it mate - Smokey and the Bandit Style. Then grow a big Mo! LOL
  6. Ok - we met a few of the people last night. Seemed a decent enough bunch. We even ran into our good friend Tony Peter (Black STi) We covered the few little quirky bits of their sup req's. Tow Hooks - skylines have hooks under the front of their cars. This is acceptable. Nothing else is required. Shoes - its seems they are a little more fussy on shoes than most people. They like the shoe to at least have a leather upper. Either that or you need to have fire proof socks. Extinguisher Mounts - the spot that many of us have used in the rear seat is fine. But they wont be accepting any plastic brackets - nor any brackets that have been attached with either pop rivits or with self tapping screws. I think that covers most of it. Still plenty of spots left. Not long to go now - Im getting excited. Oh - finally - if anyone would be able to help out with Flagging for this event could they let me know.
  7. Its 9739 1578. http://www2.wrx.com.au/forum/viewtopic.php?t=14291
  8. The best non-competitive track day I know of at Sandown is probably the Murcott Motorsport Day. Its kind of like a training day - only you need to have completed some other things before it. But this day is spent basically from 10am til 5pm doing as many laps of Sandown as you and you car can handle. A member of SAU has his own car club (beefy - GT Car Club) and they are running one of these days in April if you are interested. Check out here for details: http://gtcarclub.com The WRX Club are holding a hill climb - at this stage at Morwell - in May. Its the only one I currently know of. Its the only event they are doing that we (SAU Vic) won't be promoting due to the dodginess of that track.
  9. Also - as a super new cool toy for those dorky minded out there - the WRX Club will have available a wireless up to the minute race time monitor for anyone that wants to bring a laptop along. All it really menas is that you will get to see the times as they happen rather than waiting for the print outs. http://www.racetime.com.au/rmonitor/ will show a directory listing with two files - setup.exe - around 730k and instructions.txt. Anyone wanting to have Wireless Access needs to download the two files - read the instructions.txt and run setup.exe. For anyone that is concerened - the RMonitor system will be installed ONLY in the directory nominated by the user (we default to c:rmonitor for ease of identifying it). NO files are installed in ANY other directory. They will confirm the IP of the result machine on the day.
  10. For peoples info - as of last night there were 35 entries. So still 35 spots left but they are starting to fill fast now. So if you haven't got your form in and you are thinking of joining us then do so shortly.
  11. I have my wang mate so you can still work on the GTR one. I NEED it!
  12. Yeah but they may require an external tow hook because your car may be burried in a sand trap. I dunno. I know you can get external tow hooks - I personally dont want to have to get one however.
  13. Ok - Im going to meet up with the WRX Club motorsport committee tomorrow night to cover a few things. Including the requirement for a tow hook. It's in their sup req's but currently I don't think any of us have got them so I will confirm if they are required. I've also heard that the wrx scruteneer's may not like the positioning of where most of us keep our extinguishers. (In the back) Again I will check this out so that we don't have issues at the first meet. Finally - geoff - I think we have a newbie that needs a bonnet strap. Cheers mate.
  14. nds - there are lots of cars on the track at once. Like +40 cars. In a sense its one of the good things - becuase it means you can get over 3hrs of track time a day if you like as they really get through the field. But its also one of the bad things as there is rarely ever any clear track.
  15. He's made it to some rounds. He made it to PIARC where he has an offical best lap time of 2.24s. His car has also seen Winton - it just caught on fire there.
  16. Well in Japan the car with the skyline badge and the VQ engine is sold as a Nissan V35 Skyline. But in the USA it is sold as an Infinity G35! Nissan has said the new GTR won't be sold under the Skyline name. So yeah the current Nissan skyline is a V35. But there is no current GTR. Nissan Australia have already registered the name Infinity GTR. Who's to say it won't be the branded new Infinity G35 GTR!!? All my point was that the new GTR hasn't been stated that its going to be called the R35 or the V35. Hell some are even saying its going to skip to the ?36. Who knows. I sure don't - I just know that it hasn't been stated that it WILL be called the new V35 GT-R.
  17. Do you know what I find funny. No where have ever Nissan stated that it will infact be called a V35. All that has been said is that it will be based upon the current 350Z including the VQ35 engine. But who's to say that they aren't going to call it an RB35DETT once they stick some blowers on it and stick it in a GTR. I can't emagine its going to be the exact same engine thats found in the 350Z. Personally Im sick of all these people insisting that its going to be called a V35 when there has never been any word that its going to change from the traditional R numbering. I mean the new Infinity is called the G35 even though its using the VQ engine!
  18. Apparently there are 3 GTR's entered so far - there's me and Scotsman - who'se the 3rd one? Its not Frank apparently! (Have you entered with a GTR Shiv?)
  19. You could do a really original shoot of my car this weekend if you wanted! Cause my car is currently in my garage up on blocks with bits of gearbox, dump pipes, drive shafts and god knows what else all around it! Quite a common position my car has been in since Ive owned it! LOL. Anyways....hopefully by the following weekend my car will be back together so I can be available if you like. I have a really cool location down near my house where I have bought some land (basically its on a golf course estate).
  20. Hey guys. Also - anyone thats thinking of participating in the SAU Vic Track Club Championship please come along to this as we'll use this night to finalise the details on the rules for the classes. We may even have to come up with a different theory since at this stage we are talking about having 4 classes and yet we only have 6 entries in the first event. And for some entertainment for the night - I have FINALLY received my copy of the 2004 Dutton Rally of Victoria DVD - so I will bring this along and put it on for people to view. Its a good little vid of some hella nice cars being treated very badly by their owners.
  21. Hi, My R34 GTR rims are for sale and come with used Advan A048 Semi comps (265/35/18's). Price: $3K
  22. Can someone fill me out a form???? I'm back next week. We would be in associate class. Don't worry about that side of things too much.
  23. From what I understand it's really only the diff mounts. Its not meant to be that big of a job. I had been looking at going the other way (from the R34 box to an R33 box with an OS Giken gear set).
  24. You will get an L2S licence. Anything higher than that and you need to sit classes / do tests. An L2S however is all you need for events such as these sprint days and also things like the Dutton Rally. The higer levels are once you start racing directly against other cars. Just quickly going back to the classes. If you look at the wrx club they have I think 7 or so classes - this covers things like tyres and ecu's and all sorts of different levels of modifications. BUT they have many many people competing. We won't have that many people competing and if we have too many classes we will end up with classes with 1 or even no people in it. It happened this year in the NDSOC where 1 guy was in his own class. Consequently he got full points every time he competed and was going to win his class and the consequent club championship just by turning up. We don't want that. Now as a rule skylines - especially those that people bring to the track - are not standard. There are probably less than 5% of skylines out there that are 100% stock. So basically we have to find a cut off point where we are happy to agree that this is where we draw the line between classes. For those that have done a fair bit of track work - the most obvious place is where bigger turbo's start being used. Thats where the gap increases the most. However - changing turbo's doesn't necessarily mean a bigger turbo. I'm not an expert with the RB25 but I know with the RB26 I basically couldn't produce much more power without upgrading the fuel system as my injectors are nearing maxium duty. However - if I was to get some steel wheels I could up the boost and produce more power with my turbo's - but I'd have to also change my fuel system to cope with the extra power. This is why we initially changed the thought on "turbo's" being the limitting factor to the fuel system. Again I'd like to stress that I will be covering this in detail at the next meeting and we'll be putting the rules up for discussion and and then a vote. Its your club and we want to keep everyone as happy as possible but everyone has to understand the limitations we have. It going give up situtations where say someone with a stock GTR will have to compete against say me and Scotsman - however it also means that when as planned shortly I upgrade to 2530's I would be then competing against the likes of Ben from Racepace. Most of us have aspirations to do things to our cars. So sometimes we may find ourselves at the bottom of the tree, but given time you can work to the top. If then if you decide you can go past the top of the tree and find your self back down the bottom again. Having crapped on long enough though all of that you will find that the only person you really compete against is yourself anyways. Beating your own previous best time is always more satisfying than beating another person (unless that person is Scotsman. It's so much fun beating him. LOL) And Chrisman - we might have to change the class from RWD to 2WD just for you. Teach you a lesson for not owning a skyline. LOL.
  25. The R34 box is identiacal to the Supra TT (minus the transfer case obviously). All my parts came from Toyota. And I did all the synchro's, 2nd, 3rd, 4th gears, the 1st-2nd and 3-4th shift drums plus the slide sleeves. Most parts are readily available from Toyota Australia. Troy (ylwgtr2) recently rebuilt his box himself and is helping me (aka - doing 99%) of mine currently. Well at least I hope he is. LOL.
