You will find this feature very useful for alot of questions about your car.

In the past month there has been a plethora of threads opened about r33's and oil changes and what oil to use, some I think even include pictures.

Most use Motul Turbolight 10W40 or similar, and the oil filter is a Z145A (Ryco).

I used Motul 300V Chrono 10/40 - quite expensive but it held oil pressure much better than any other oil i've used before and the engine ran very quite and revved quite freely. The cheap Ryco filters are fine to use.

How do you say its fantastic.  Most oils are fine.  Dump it at 5000km and replace it.  Its only after years of running you will know if the oil is great or not. 

Oil pressure on the stock gauge seems to be similar for most kinds of oil with my car..

It might be bs but i've noticed that different oils seem to lend different qualities to the motor - like make it run smoother and quieter, but thats just me...

Each to their own i guess, i would run a thinner oil if all i used the car for was round town work but my car gets heavy highway use and many hours stuck in peak traffic, so i wanted something that would give protection at the upper thermal range, and also with my car on 103,000km i doubt the clearances are what they used to be, so i opted for a thicker oil....in terms of protection you're right, i wont know for a while, but i do know that its working great sofar as nothing has broken yet :)

Coz I just recently put Valoline 20w-50 XLD premium on my r33 gtst?

Arghhhhhhhhhh *Screams*

Please take the advice of the other guys and do not use cheap oil in your R33. It is worth every cent if you spend a little more each time you do an oil change.

I reckon any semi synthetic that is from a reputable manufacturer will do the job. If you're religious with your 5000km service I wouldnt worry too much. If you extend it to 10000kms Id go full synthetic. I rather take the cheaper oil dump more often approach..probably in japan our cars were getting an oil change every 15-20k kms. 10k kms if by the book. As motors get older therre is more importance in doing the regular changes. It is all the unburnt hydrocarbons and petrol related products that get into the oil that cause further degradation of seals etc and decrease the effectiveness of the oil in lubricating.

I doubt any damage would be done by using thicker oil (20w-50w) but if youve got a newer engine you may as well take advantage of using higher quality thinner oils like 5-40 etc.

If youve got a bog stock rb30e with 200+ on the clock you wouldnt want to use anything other than 20-50 however due to the clearances rings etc being worn. Too thin oil will cause the motor to lose compression due to it slipping past the rings etc.

Motul 4100 and a Ryco filter every 5,000km is all you need to know really :O

benm i will spank you if i catch you putitng turbolight in your new GTR. 4100 is a very cheap oil and is not a full synthetic oil. it is a blended oil. go at least for the 8100, but i would say use the Chrono 300V.

I've used the castrol forumla R 10W60 and personally i think it's too thick. a good full synthetic around the 10W40 area is what you want.

    • Wife wanted basket things in the wardrobe in our temporary house. Thought about ripping our the wardrobe and fitting the entire IKEA set, but it's a temporary house and we want to move in a few years. So IKEA advertises this as a 50cm unit, however the actually basket and rails measure 46cm wide. Only issue was depth, IKEA stuff is quite deep, where as the builder special junk is super shallow at less than 40cm. Send it, chopped the rails, then offset the mounting holes, job done, happy wife, less shit scattered all over the bedroom. Did the same to the other side too. Also drove the Skyline shit box today, dropped off oil at Supercheap Auto. I didn't realise they only now take max 2x bottles per visit. I visited 2x Supercheap Autos.  
    • I've seen similar actually in my situation. You never know what tables are attempted to be used when the car thinks it's -99C or +200C. The fail state is not usually that extreme but you know what I mean - it was in my case though! This is where being able to read all the sensors is useful cause you see this stuff really quickly.
    • The above is very important. However as long as you keep timing relatively low, it's plausible to make your own knock ears and plausible to learn to tune with a modern ECU that can do wideband O2 correction like a boost controller. I mean if you only have one viable road to even drive the car on, learning to tinker to this level may be worth doing given you can't do much else with the car...?
    • I find the fact that the rear plate has to be bent inwards at the rear not so bad: but the front is just awful: It's like come on. (these are my very old, now retired/turned in plates) TBH it is a lot of money to fix a minor issue, the fact I said "I'll never really spend the money on doing this" is why people ended up buying them as a gift for a 'car guy' who can be hard to shop for.. for car guy things.
    • I just bent the ends of my premo plates. It even went through Regency like that after the engine conversion and the inspector (a great bloke!) just squinted his eyes and said "I didn't see that". Plates, and how they look, are just something that have zero importance to me.
