As long as you are getting it tuned professionally you can't go wrong in terms of blowing it up. I posted a link to my thread because I have the Powerplay ROM tune. 666DAN has the bikirom working but not tuned yet. He will be getting it tuned in the next month or so I'm guessing. I think the ROM tunes are about to come of age. If I am right your upgrade outlook may change.

That said, putting a slightly larger turbo and a bigger fuel pump with adjustable fuel regulator will give you a nice improvement as will a SITC if you can find one.

Gary, you certainly do have a way with words.

SO to clarify, once the SAFC-2 is tuned it holds it's memory even if ECU is reset?

And the car will not suffer any adverse affects from the SAFC-2 being installed??

Sorry to ask what seem like stupid questions. I just want to be certain.

Cheers

Pete

1. Bullshit

2. No

:O cheers

Quick question; is there any substitute to the S-ITC?  Having real big problems finding one :P

With the mods that you intend to do, I think it would be a good time to invest in a piggyback such as those listed if you are gonna keep the auto. The emanage can be ordered with the vehicle specific harness kit making it a plug and play affair.

I don’t really want to get into EManage bashing, but I haven’t found anyone who has got one to work over a long period of time.  They have always had some issues with RB ignition systems, the zener diode mod seems to at least allow then to run, whether it stands the test of time is yet to be proven.  The instability in high temps has been cropping up lately, maybe it’s a phantom or a symptom of the recent hot weather, I don’t really know yet.

All that aside, I still think (for what it does) it is grossly overpriced by the time you ad all the bits necessary to use its full functionality.

:( cheers

As I've said numerous times, my one was running fine for 18 months (60,000kms) with the diodes in place, I'd say that's a enough time to see that it works.

The main problem with 34 coil packs is that they are basically poorly built, they seem to have severe problems with the heat and die quickly. I've had this happen in both of my R34's pre any ECU modifications.

The series II R33 coils seem to be a great replacement, but they don't fit as the mounts are in different places requiring a bracket to make them fit...but the definately seem to be more heat stable.

I'd say you'll have no trouble finding anyone to tune the bikirom down south, it's just a ROM plus the new edition of software Lucas has provided comes with a self-help menu for specifically tuning the R34's...a chimp could do it if it owned a dyno.

1. Yes, even if you unplug the SAFC and put it in your cupboard for a year. It's like an elephant, they never forget.

2. If it is tuned properly, no adverse effects.

3. Sorry for the previous abrupt reply, but workshops trying to put people off stuff that works and has worked for years and sold thousands of units worldwide really peeees me off.

:D cheers :(

SK, Not upset about your reply at all. Actually, I expected a short and to the point response.

This garage who I will not name have proven to be very opinionated in the past, and I am not the only one who has had this happen to them.

So I just wanted to make sure that I was not going to do any harm to my car.

Cheers

OK, all the parts have been purchased except for the Cat... I'm thinking about the 4" Magic Cat as was in the Group Buy thread.

Question: Does anyone know of a place that can bore out my oil lines for the turbo? Somewhere in Sydney? I've been told it's only the O-Ring that needs to be bored out and welded up (from 1.9mm to 2.2mm)

Too true, but now I am looking at the Bikirom option. OMG, :) so many options all of a sudden!!!!!

Better get that SAFC in Pete!!!  Otherwise all those emails and MSN convos will have gone to waste :)

  • 2 weeks later...

OK, the work has begun... YAY! Race against the clock to get it all together for the Sunday BBQ but if we don't make it, it's not that big a deal.

Few Questions:

1) The Fuel Pressure Regulator is running at 30psi @ idle and 50psi @ max boost (10psi on stock turbo). We can adjust the FPR but at the moment the car is running fine. Does anyone know what the pressure should be set to? Or is it dependent on the new turbo/power?

2) There is a "Fuel Damper" just before the FPR... kinda looks like another FPR. I want to know if this can/should be removed as it will be a "restriction" to the fuel flow.

3) Bosch 040 in-tank, is there an installation guide for this on the R34? Having some trouble deciding how to mount it onto the stock bracket whilst maintaining the full function of the new pump.

Think that is it for now :ban:

Thanks for any replies that may follow; your help is most appreciated as always!

    • Yea - I mean I've seen my fuel pump which is decades old and uh, while I'm not saying this with real knowledge... but I sure get the ick at using anything in the fuel system that produced the state of that pump. Many years ago I went through multiple pumps (and strainers) before I dropped the tank to clean it out with extreme violence. I'm talking the car would do maybe 50km before coming to a halt, which resulted in me cleaning out the filter with some brake cleaner and going on my way. None of my stuff ever looked like what came out of your fuel tank. I don't think I'd be happy with it unless every single component was replaced (or at least checked/cleaned/confirmed to be clean here).
    • I'm not going to recommend an EBC pad. I don't like them. Just about anything else would suit me better. I've been using Intima pads for a while now.
    • Agreed, and in particular the earth strap that should go from the subframe to the chassis but it often broken or left off. There is a section in the R32 workshop manual you can follow for troubleshooting if you don't see anything suspicious, and depending where you are (there is no location on your user profile) you should be able to get your hands on a second hand replacement unit still if needed
    • Yeah they mention as a R34 for 2.5 Turbo...but then again thos "small" were also for R34 by that different site. But i look into it and that 310mm EBC is for R34 GTT. And by those you linked the specs are the same 🙂    EDIT: I found these on one site here: DBA 4000 series T3 DBA42304S They are 310mm...and it says are for R34GTT...are there good? EDIT2: ok they have pads too.  What "color" should i get for street use? I dont want/need some noisy ones...(and if they are not that dusty that is good too)
    • Yeah, shame. Maybe  driver's carpet is available 🙏. I am waiting for both amayama and nangun to confirm.
