cheapo lights are around $7.50 a bulb. Toothpaste is an abrasive so it makes sense that it would clean the plastic... I've heard it being used to polish other things too, but cant remember.

I polish my glasses with toothpaste once a month.

Sorry. I'll go now.

I had some overspray on my headlight and cleaned it off with thinners.

What a farken mess! looked like wrinkly skin.

I tried cutting polish, that just made it shiny but didnt get rid of wrinkles and realised I'd really farked up. Tried Auotsol that worked but it was gunna take ages to get rid of all the wrinkles so I stepped up a notch and tried Gumption, that worked better but still a long way to go, until I used a 3m pad with the gumption. That worked really well, still took a while but only 1/2hr,but I to continually clean the pad because it built up with bits of plastic pretty quick. I then cleaned with water and spayed silicon spray on it and it came up a beaut.

If you look at my avitar you can see how farked it was.

DONT DO THIS UNLESS YOUR PLASTIC IS REALLY FARKED

Question, In order to remove the headlights, do i have to take off the front bar? If i do, the front bar for the r33 gts-t series 1 is just 3 screws at the grille, and 2 on each side under the fender right?

I dont think u need to remove your bumper to take off the headlights. The actual headlight asembly is easy to take off from the car.

But no-one has answered the question of how to take off the front plastic cover from the headlight assembly. Can it be properly re-sealed? I have cleaned my light 100's of times with that polish from Unique Auto Sports and it is just a heap of crap. It works and looks good for a day or two then bang, yellow again!

Putting your headlights into an oven to pull them apart is going to be risky.. especially if you've never done it before. When I got my R33 series II my headlights were (and still are) frosty looking because of the crap on the inside you just can't clean.

I did manage to find a place in Blacktown called Plastifusion and all they do is headlights. Link --> Plastifusion

They will do the hole oven business thing with your headlights, polish them up (inside and out) and re-seal them again. Unfortunately for me though one of my headlights has some fine cracking. In that condition they won't pull it apart to polish it. I basically need mine replaced :D

Anyone know of a place where I can source some cheap series II headlights? Nissan want $1000+ for a pair :P

There's also a place in Keysborough, Victoria that does change overs (is it Mr. Headlight??) Do a search on headlight +replacement, I read the thread 18-24 months ago...

any link? i broke the screw that adjust the level of the headlights, now they are pointing too high. thx

Could it be these guys?

Melbourne Headlight Exchange Pty Ltd

Unit 2/ 130 Bridge Rd Keysborough VIC 3173

ph: (03) 9706 3922 Auto Parts Recyclers

I couldn't find any website link for them.

When you guys clean the headlights, are you doing it with the lights still in the car, or are you guys actually removing the headlights and then doing it? I just dont want to get toothpaste or the maguires stuff on the paint??

how you going mate?

I just got my 33 back from insurance damage of some moron reversing into it.

The second hand lights put in by "Gold Coast Panel Works" on the gold coast, looked like they were brand new. And I mean brand new when i picked it up. If you bought a new car they would stack up.

They are based on the Gold coast qld. Im not sure how they made these lights from the wreckers look like this.

They are in southport give them a buzz

I guess alot of ppl might have this problem if your line is year 94 and below.Mine's a 93 and the headlights getting a bit yellowish.Just wondering how to make it white and shiny(like big red) again.

thanks

If its just the outside(I thought it was on the inside because tried lots of different things and didnt change) MR Sheen no s**t! took it right off and thats without removing the lights

    • I don't understand how this hasn't boiled down to - Upgrade the turbo when you have everything required. ECU, injectors, fuel pump, turbo, etc. Do it all at once.  If you don't have everything required, just enjoy the car as it is and keep saving up your pennies.
    • Sounds like you've got an interesting adventure ahead here with local support if you have trouble! My guess is that, unboosted, you will be OK with a small upgrade like -9. What will happen is that once the stock ECU sees more airflow than it expects it will add a heap of fuel and pull a heap of timing to be safe because it can't understand how it could get that much air without there being an issue. You will see clouds of black smoke and it won't pull hard through the midrange and top end. So, overall it will be a bit frustrating but should be OK. If you are still nervous set the base timing back 2o through the CAS, but it will be even more sluggish everywhere. As said above through...this is not my guarantee your engine won't be blown into a million pieces, leaving you looking for very hard to find parts A better idea is get a computer with logging ASAP, wire in a wide band O2 sensor and a use remote tuner. I've done multiple cars this way and while it is not as good as a specific tune on a dyno they can get it 90% right. I'd suggest if you can afford an R33 GTR these days you can afford an ECU and tune. And if you can't afford that you sure won't be able to afford the rebuild if it goes bad in the meantime,.
    • Yeah it would be nice if someone took the time to put that sort of information together, but there are a lot of variations in looms. I think you are making this way hard for yourself if you just want to get it running....sourcing an SR20 with the right wiring will be a billion times easier than matching the RB loom to an S15 chassis. If you do end up going this way, you just need to trace every wire in the loom with a multimeter, 95% of them will go to a location you can confirm at the ECU.....and then post it up for the next person who needs it
    • Just top it up with water, and keep a general idea of how much you added. It is normal for water to be pushed into and pulled out of the reservoir through the cap, and it should not be more than half full or it will be likely to overflow when hot. Any decent mechanic can do a pressure test of the cooling system to confirm if you have a leak. Keep in mind if it is only leaking a little and when hot it may well evaporate before you see it hit the ground
    • I'd ask the shop what they used and use that. Mixing coolants is sometimes OK, sometimes not, and you have know the details of each coolant to know whether it's a good idea or not.
