i dont think he can afford to be too picky here... if RBR offers him something, he should take it. Personally i just dont see him going to Reault.

Webber doest have the race wins, pole positions or the outstanding driving skill to put him ahead of the crowd. Sure he's good, but he's not exactly lighting up the race track

neither was alonso or fisi when they went to renault. both had big successs in other categories and so has mark webber. dont kill this dream for me!!!!1111 But i suspect you are right, and he will be at RBR.

Fisi yes, is useless, absolutely useless. How he couldn't overtake Schumi at Hungary is still beyond me.......BUT...I would beg to differ on Alonso. He was always Fast, he was Briatore's prodigal son. He has always shown up his teammates.

Webber was stooged with a SHITBOX of a car has never been given the opporunity to show what he can do. And unfortunately that's what people remember... good performances. His car imo has robbed him of a batter seat

Personally i was hopeing Rubens would get the break through for them ;)

Im with you. But even with the retirements he was racing well. He inherited the lead but it was a long way from a soft win, in those conditions he kept hin nose clean and didnt go backwards at any stage with tyre decision.

As for the RBR, thing. Ppl keep saying they have Newey on the aero. No doubt they will improve. but how many WDC or WCC have McLaren won lately, with great drivers, good budget, works engine deal, and expereinced management? RBR dont have near what McLaren had, and they had Newey for a heel of a lot longer, so the Team aspect would of been workign really well

RBR will improve, but Newey couldnt make the fast McLaren reliable or a championshiop winner of late, so i cant see his single inclusion as being the coming of RBR.

Im still hoping Webber will be at Renault, but would love to see him alongside a driver liek DC.

Yeh i noticed that as well. I remember watching him in the wet at Phllip Island, he was a freak. Blindlingly quick and blew the field away.

He has always done well in the wet. Seems to have good car control and very speedy, though he did bin it the other year in a wet race that cause the red flag to come out.

Still i was pumped to see the wet race, Bridgestone normnally do well in the wet, so was hopign Webber would get lucky....but the tyres sucked and he did poorly by binning it in the cut and thrust of the first few laps.

The you have Rosberg...another nothing weekend where he was never quick. Wurz alongise Rosberg has a great opportunity at humbling a supposed future champion

Top race, love it when its a wet track.

I don't know wtf happened but I set my recording 15mins early and 30mins late and I somehow missed the first 30mins and last 5mins of the Ch10 coverage.

I'll keep an eye out for the 'onboard race' footage to see what happened with Schuey!

according to heidfeld, Schumacher "got into the back of (me) him" after he made the pass

Oops!!!

But Briatore said: ''Webber is not available. It is not up to me to say where he will go. Perhaps somebody else will say something about it soon.''

''I have not signed anything,'' the 24-year-old said, ''but I am sure that next year I will race quoted Kovalainen

Talk is the the time we wake up in the morning Webber will be confirmed at RBR :whistling:

Australian Mark Webber will partner Briton David Coulthard at Red Bull next season, the Formula One team announced.

After being replaced by one Austrian, test driver Alexander Wurz who will race for Williams in 2007, it was the 29-year-old Australian's turn to oust another.

Webber will take the place of young Austrian Christian Klien at the team owned by energy drink billionaire Dietrich Mateschitz.

"We chose him for a number of straightforward reasons," said team boss Christian Horner.

"One, he obviously has undoubted speed and ability and, two, he appears to have the determination and motivation needed to succeed.

"We're entering an exciting new phase in the short history of Red Bull Racing and Mark was an obvious candidate to us."

Next year's Red Bull car will be the first overseen by Adrian Newey, the top designer behind a string of titles for Williams and McLaren.

The move also reunites Webber with many former colleagues from his days at Jaguar, the team Mateschitz bought from Ford and renamed after his product.

"I believe I am joining the team at exactly the right time for success in the future," said the driver.

"After I left Jaguar Racing at the end of the 2004 season and discovered that Mr Mateschitz was taking over the team, I said that I felt the team had been placed in very good hands and had an assured future.

"I hope that with Red Bull Racing I can have my best F1 season to date and believe that we can be very, very strong together," added Webber.

Red Bull are using Ferrari engines but speculation has suggested they could switch to Renault V8 units next year with sister team Toro Rosso taking over the Ferrari contract.

Webber is managed by Renault team boss Flavio Briatore and had been linked to the champions as a possible successor to Spaniard Fernando Alonso when the champion joins McLaren at the end of the year.

The Australian's move now makes it almost certain that Finnish test driver Heikki Kovalainen will get Renault's second seat alongside Italian Giancarlo Fisichella if they cannot secure the services of McLaren's Kimi Raikkonen.

Raikkonen is expected to join Ferrari.

Coulthard, now 35, was delighted to be given a third season with the team after securing their first podium with third place in Monaco this year.

"I can feel that the team is really beginning to gel as a group," said the Scot.

"I'm looking forward to raising the performance of the team and the car and to see Red Bull Racing become a regular points scorer, in with a good shout for achieving podiums and wins."

Well, my gob is smacked & my flabber aghast. Why the hell would he sign for Red Bull? Surely next years Williams Toyota is a better bet than a Red Bull Ferrari. Hope he didn't sign for more than a year because I don't reckon he would have had a better chance at landing a plum job than in the last few months.

The Mike Gascoyne thing - look at the job he did for Jordan all those years ago - Williams needs someone to sort their reliability out and quickly.

As an aside, sad to see JV given the arse. Unsuprising, but sad all the same.

F U C K

I can't beleive they are taking an unknown like kovalenien over webber. webber should have begged flava flav for that drive. anyone who thinks driving at redbull is a step forward in his career is on drugs. he left that team in 2004 due to their excessive shiteness. damn it. he would have been a great driver for renault, he has really come good in F1 and is a mature driver, who we know can be quick. he just needs a quick reliable car (lol not asking much I know!). again, f**k you frank williams. thanks to you webber has just wasted 2 years and is now back where he was at the beginning of 2003.

If Renault didnt happen this year, then its not goign to happen next year.

They are either putting a rookie in the car, so by the end of next year they will know his value. Or Kimi, in which case they will be looking to put HK in the car to replace Fisi. It hasnt happened so highly unlikely to happen next year.

Webber would be silly to only go for a one year option at a team like RBR. He would need to give it at least two seasons....

But Roy, if the thing with RB turns pear shaped, who is going to want Webber two years hence? It is getting a bit late inthe day for him.

As for Renault wanting an unknown next to Fisi - well, have they lost interest in winning races? Can't think of any other reason.

BTW, Baron, what is the unit of measure for shiteness?

yes agree 100% renault must have decided they just want to arse around for a while. I know the real reason.

They are holding out for Kimi. Webber can't wait for Kimi to make up his mind (cause if kimi did go to renault, all the other seats would be gone for webber by then). So Webber has taken the safe bet and secured himself a seat now. Renault should have given up chasing Kimi and just gone for Webber + fisi. cause kimi is liable to screw them over.

BTW what the f**k has flavio done for webber? nothing. did webber fart when they were in the same room once or something?

shiteness is measured in shites. when the gross tonnage exceeds 100 shites then it's time to GTFO.

Flavio did want Webber at the end of 2004, Fisi was the lap dog and was goign to get the seat that Weeber didnt want. Williams had just won the last GO of the year, it was a dream of Webbers to drive for Williams...he made the wrong choce. Not really Flavs fault.

It will be interesting to see who gets signed to Renault. Kimi may still be goign there, and i suspect Webber couldnt wait for the MS/KR mery go round to stop, as he coul have lost out.

But putting Heikki in the 2nd seat cant be too bad an option. He has tested with them, so they know his ability. He was arguably the better driver in GP2, and didnt desderve to lose to Rosberg.

Renault could do worse, when you have a good car under you, strong engineering behind you, and you are a young quick guy...then i wouldnt be too concerned about putting him in the car.

Under pressure he may make a mistake or two and give away a strong position, but if he is quickj,m he will qualify well and be in clear air. With the nature of F1 these days the passing is done in the pits, and with strategy....and he knwos the team, they know him...and he has only been out of a race seat for 12 months...so is it really that big a risk?

And as for Webber+ RBR= pear shaped. Who knows, but unless fortune favours him he will need to make the most of RBR, as this could be his last chance. At 32-33 he will be relying on cirumstance to favour him if he is to move to a WCC team

    • Hey Dave, welcome aboard! Good to see another soon-to-be Stagea owner here. The wagons are awesome — plenty of space, still got that Skyline DNA, and loads of potential if you’re into mods. Definitely post up pics when you get it, everyone here loves seeing new builds. What model/year are you looking at?
    • See if you can thermal epoxy a heatsink or two onto it?
    • The other problem was one of those "oh shit we are going to die moments". Basically the high spec Q50s have a full electric steering rack, and the povo ones had a regular hydraulic rack with an electric pump.  So couple of laps into session 5 as I came into turn 2 (big run off now, happily), the dash turned into a christmas tree and the steering became super heavy and I went well off. I assumed it was a tyre failure so limped to the pits, but everything was OK. But....the master warning light was still on so I checked the DTCs and saw – C13E6 “Heat Protection”. Yes, that bloody steering rack computer sitting where the oil cooler should be has its own sensors and error logic, and decided I was using the steering wheel too much. I really appreciated the helpful information in the manual (my bold) POSSIBLE CAUSE • Continuing the overloading steering (Sports driving in the circuit etc,) “DATA MONITOR” >> “C/M TEMPERATURE”. The rise of steering force motor internal temperature caused the protection function to operate. This is not a system malfunction. INSPECTION END So, basically the electric motor in the steering rack got to 150c, and it decided to shut down without warning for my safety. Didn't feel safe. Short term I'll see if I can duct some air to that motor (the engine bay is sealed pretty tight). Long term, depending on how often this happens, I'll look into swapping the povo spec electric/hydraulic rack in. While the rack should be fine the power supply to the pump will be a pain and might be best to deal with it when I add a PDM.
    • And finally, 2 problems I really need to sort.  Firstly as Matt said the auto trans is not happy as it gets hot - I couldn't log the temps but the gauge showed 90o. On the first day I took it out back in Feb, because the coolant was getting hot I never got to any auto trans issues; but on this day by late session 3 and then really clearly in 4 and 5 as it got hotter it just would not shift up. You can hear the issue really clearly at 12:55 and 16:20 on the vid. So the good news is, literally this week Ecutek finally released tuning for the jatco 7 speed. I'll have a chat to Racebox and see what they can do electrically to keep it cooler and to get the gears, if anything. That will likely take some R&D and can only really happen on track as it never gets even warm with road use. I've also picked up some eye wateringly expensive Redline D6 ATF to try, it had the highest viscosity I could find at 100o so we will see if that helps (just waiting for some oil pan gaskets so I can change it properly). If neither of those work I need to remove the coolant/trans interwarmer and the radiator cooler and go to an external cooler....somewhere.....(goodbye washer reservoir?), and if that fails give up on this mad idea and wait for Nissan to release the manual 400R
    • So, what else.... Power. I don't know what it is making because I haven't done a post tune dyno run yet; I will when I get a chance. It was 240rwkw dead stock. Conclusion from the day....it does not need a single kw more until I sort some other stuff. It comes on so hard that I could hear the twin N1 turbos on the R32 crying, and I just can't use what it has around a tight track with the current setup. Brakes. They are perfect. Hit them hard all day and they never felt like having an issue; you can see in the video we were making ground on much lighter cars on better tyres under brakes. They are standard (red sport) calipers, standard size discs in DBA5000 2 piece, Winmax pads and Motul RBF600 fluid, all from Matty at Racebrakes Sydney. Keeping in mind the car is more powerful than my R32 and weighs 1780, he clearly knows his shit. Suspension. This is one of the first areas I need to change. It has electronically controlled dampers from factory, but everything is just way too soft for track work even on the hardest setting (it is nice when hustling on country roads though). In particular it rolls into oversteer mid corner and pitches too much under hard braking so it becomes unstable eg in the turn 1 kink I need to brake early, turn through the kink then brake again so I don't pirouette like an AE86. I need to get some decent shocks with matched springs and sway bars ASAP, even if it is just a v1 setup until I work out a proper race/rally setup later. Tyres. I am running Yoko A052 in 235/45/18 all round, because that was what I could get in approximately the right height on wheels I had in the shed (Rays/Nismo 18x8 off the old Leaf actually!). As track tyres they are pretty poor; I note GTSBoy recently posted a porker comparo video including them where they were about the same as AD09.....that is nothing like a top line track tyre. I'll start getting that sorted but realistically I should get proper sized wheels first (likely 9.5 +38 front and 11 +55 at the rear, so a custom order, and I can't rotate them like the R32), then work out what the best tyre option is. BTW on that, Targa Tas had gone to road tyres instead of semi slicks now so that is a whole other world of choices to sort. Diff. This is the other thing that urgently needs to be addressed. It left massive 1s out of the fish hook all day, even when I was trying not too (you can also hear it reving on the video, and see the RPM rising too fast compared to speed in the data). It has an open diff that Infiniti optimistically called a B-LSD for "Brake Limited Slip Diff". It does good straight line standing start 11s but it is woeful on the track. Nismo seem to make a 2 way for it.
