Williams dont look to be on too bad a shape considering the other teams they recently tested with.

Its great that Wurz is with Williams. What is a but disurbing is all the talk of a seat for Wurz is an oprion for 2007 and part of the reason he left McLaren

Theres a pretty big cap to Klein,mmmm makes you wonder what fuel loads he was running. 8tenhs of a second is a huge gap.Either Williams has built the quickest F1 car of history or RBR has built a go cart.

I think when the 1st race startsFerrari and Honda will have a pretty good advantage because of their testing there.But im sure Renault will be the pace setters.Will be interesting to see

But Webber is lookin strong against Rosberg,judging by recent test together.im pretty confendent webber will eat him up in the 1st half of the year and by the end of the year will have at least twice as many points.

Wurz is a good driver and would deffently push Webber.I remember when he 1st started in F1 and he was quick.Flavio didnt like him much and Benetton gave him a shxt car in his last year with them to make him look bad.But in his last race they gave him Fizzys car and he was a gun in it.After the race reporters were interviewing Flavio and asked why Wurz was so quick and he said "duno,mybe he got into fizzts car by mistake!" lol.

Yeah but these guys are races at heart and lets face it no one wants to sit behind another car all day so what does that tell you?its not the guys driving them,its the areo.These days with all the shxt on the cars it must be all most impossible to over take another car if he dosnt make 1 mistake.Hopfully over the next few years the fia will change some areo rules

yes, the engine may be good, but williams have not had the best aero or best handling cars of late... lets hope something has changed for this year! :domokun:

I think the same big players will dominate the scene again. Renault, Ferrari & McLaren will again be the ones to watch. Honda & Toyota might get their first wins too. Dark horses will be Williams & Red Bull. Don't think BMW will do too well though..

apparently the final testing times are of no real relevance unless u check them carefully...

you really have to see how these cars perform on long runs because a lot of teams hav been known to take wieght out of the car and de-restrict some engine parts just to throw in a quick one for the media right at the end of a test testing day *cough Ferrari cough Honda cough*

in reality its Renault and Mclaren again this year...

I still love f1 but i still dont understand why they are on the v8 train now

ive read a few times now that they are upto 200hp less and upto 17km/h slower on the straights, and montoya actually said the above in an interview. which really pisses me off, formula 1 is supposed to be just that.... the fastest it can possibly be

word. what a stupid idea. they should allow the technology (if its used across all the teams its no different from all teams running V8's) and get quicker and quicker each year

Its a bit of a problem when there is already talk about the speed of the cars at cetain tracks and the simnple fact that certain tracks arent deemed safe by the FIA.

SO it had to happen. Was a pretty silly way of tryign to slow them down me thinks, but i dont see what the problem is with V8s, they will pull bigger revs, have a completely different sound, they dont have the torque so if a driver makes a mistake mid corner it wont be so easy to recover theoir position. It could end up improving the racing. :starwars:

And for what its worth, they are already basically doing similar lap times, as the aero of the car has improved with the smaller engien allowing more freedom in this area, smaller radiators so less drag etc etc. So it eont be long until they are doing the same lap times, its just that they wont hall the mail in a straight line as well.

I too am not a fan of the V8 move.

To me it fails to address the properly the safety issues that it was introduced to solve. For sure the cars will be slower in a straight line (well for a while anyway) but now with lighter engines they will have better weight distribution, lower centres of gravity which means...

Increased cornering speed.

Which if i am correctly understanding Mr Mosley, is the biggest safety concern.

Hopefully the smaller engines add a little racing spirit to the GP racing season!

Teams have the option to still run a last year spec V10 at reduced revs. The pick up better from low revs, but I'm sure as the teams progress though out the season the V8's will rev harder to produce more speed than a V10 with reduced revs. Don't forget, they can run a V10 this year, but next year they'll be a year behind in a V8 engine development.

The end result is a croc of sh*t from Mister Mosley. Cost savings in F1, my butt! The switch to a V8 means teams had to spend a lot more money developing the new engines. It was never as simple as the FIA said (chopping 2 cylinders off and tada!) because V8's aren't as balanced as V10's.

I can understand why Michelin's leaving now. Too much politics, not enough racing.

they are racing in V8's because the FIA said that F1 cars were getting too fast and becoming a danger not only to the spectators but to the drivers aswell...

drivers necks couldn't stand the G forces that the cars were doing around corners and under braking.

So the best they could come up with to slow the cars down was thro engine capacity and size

    • I thought I'd do a write up on an auto transmission fluid change for a the nissan 7 speed Automatic. At some stage the genius engineers decided that the fluid in the trans was "for the life of the transmission", (which seems kind of self supporting to me) and removed the dip stick and fill tube (funnily enough there is still a casting for it). Anyway, for this job you do need 2 specialist tools in addition to regular hand tools, jack and good chassis stands. You need a way to pump fluid up to the transmission; I got one of these but there are plenty of other options: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/364584087070 Don't trust the generic listing though, it does not come with the required adapter for the Nissan 7 Speed. Could be Nissan, could be anything else rated for Nissan Matic S. You need at least 10 litres, I had 15 to give it a better flush...     • So I mentioned the apprentice, @LachyK helped take the bonnet off. We just undid the nuts on the hinges and unclipped the gas struts, then pulled the bonnet back a little as the front was catching on the front bar.  I had a good look at everything today and have removed the rams, repaired/reset the hinges and bolted it back together like it never happened. I'll do a separate write up on the repair, and I also removed the poppers from the Fuga today too to save grief down the road.....as said above it is at least $5k to repair retail. I'm also happier about my ability to prepare a race car, and less happy about Nis-nault's engineering (I can hear @GTSBoy sAfrican Americaning) because the top hose of the radiator didn't slip off.......it snapped clean off. By practice I put the hose clamp hard up against the flare on a neck to make it least likely to ever move (thanks @Neil!). I guess that puts a little more pressure on the end of the pipe as it is further away from the rad, but still, that is pretty shit. I've put it back on for now as there was a fair bit of neck still there, but obviously there is no lip on the neck any more so I don't think I'll track it again until I have a new rad. Speaking of which....more research required. It looks like Koyo makes a standard size radiator in ally which I'll grab in the meantime, but I really want something thicker so might have to go custom in the medium term (ouch) Coolant still needs a refill and I have the pressure tester on it over night, but other than a wash down of the engine bay it seems alright. And @MBS206 noted something noisy on the front of the engine and I think I agree....time for a new accessory belt and tensioners I think.

    • What are we supposed to be seeing in the photo of the steering angle sensor? The outer housing doesn't turn, right? All the action is on the inside. The real test here is whether or not your car has had the steering put back together by a butcher. When the steering is centred (and we're not caring about the wheel too much here, we're talking about the front wheels, parallel, facing front) then you should have an absolutely even number of turns from centre to left lock and centre to right lock. If there is any difference at all then perhaps the thing has been put back together wrongly, either the steering wheel put on one spline (or more!) off, and the alignment bodged to straighteb the wheel, or the opposite where something silly was done underneath and the wheel put back on crooked to compensate. Nut there isn't actually much evidence that you have such a problem anyway. It is something you can easily measure and test for to find out though. My money is still on the HICAS CU not driving the PS solenoid with the proper PWM signal required to lighten the load at lower speed. If it were me, I would be putting either a multimeter or oscilloscope onto the solenoid terminals and taking it for a drive, looking for the voltage to change. The PWM signal is 0v, 12V, 0V, 12v with ...obviously...modulated pulse width. You should see that as an average voltage somewhere between 0V and 12V, and it should vary with speed. An handheld oscilloscope would be the better tool for this, because they are definitely good enough but there's no telling if any cheap shit multimeter that people have lying around are good enough. You can also directly interfere with the solenoid. If you wire up a little voltage divider with variable resistor on it, and hook the PS solenoid direct to 12V through that, you can manually adjust the voltage to the solenoid and you should be able to make it go ligheter and heavier. If you cannot, then the problem is either the solenoid itself dead, or your description of the steering being "tight" (which I have just been assuming you mean "heavy") could be that you have a mechanical problem in the steering and there is heaps of resistance to movement.
    • Little update  I have shimmed the solenoid on the rack today following Keep it Reets video on YouTube. However my steering is still tight. I have this showing on Nisscan, my steering angle sensor was the closest to 0 degrees (I could get it to 0 degrees by small little tweaks, but the angle was way off centre? I can't figure this out for the life of me. I get no faults through Nisscan.
