but does anyone know for sure if screamer pipes are illegal or not in NSW? I know in Victoria their not.

Do you even know what a screamer pipe is? And/or what the Australian Design Rules (which are a Federal law and thus apply in every State and Territory) are with respect to emissions?

doesnt a screamer pipe only loud when the wastegate opens?

so if i were to control my boost... not reving over 4,000 then that my wastegate shouldnt open.... or does it?

btw all new to this turbo side of cars...

On a stock turbo it will "leak" no matter what RPM, and will sound like you have an exhaust leak until it comes on boost when the wastegate fully opens.

also since i have a stock rb25det engine, what good would installing a bigger wastegate to my stock turbo do for me?

Absolutely nothing. There it nothing that installing an External Wastegate will achieve on a stock RB25 turbo.

I honestly think you should forget about this screamer pipe talk...

Also the whole External Wastegate talk... you have what is essentially a stock car.

I would highly reccomend to just go and purchase a Split Dump from BATMBL or someone else who sells them on this forum (check the For Sale/Trader section for this)

i think it wouldnt do me any good anyways because arent the stock turbo's ceramic and can only withstand 12psi max boost before causing any damages?

10psi would be my limit if i had to choose from

My car when it had the Ext Gate.

NOTE: I've never head an internally gated turbo sound even close to this.

So dont expect to get anywhere near what the video shows

cheers

umm isnt this the sound of an external wastegate without a screamer pipe?

sounds good...

*just about to tear my hair out*

The link is my car.

The sound of an External 45mm Turbosmart Wastegate, with a screamer pipe.

Running off a GT30 600hp turbo

A screamer pipe is the metal pipe that plugs into the wastegate.

It is called a screamer because it is venting to the atmoshpere

An External wastegate can be plumbed back into the exhaust and then it no longer has a screamer pipe because exhaust gas from the wastegate now runs through the Catalytic Convertor and then though to the rest of the Exhaust System

I dont have the time to draw you a pic in MSPaint.

If someone else does then maybe that will make you understand.

I seriously suggest to go to this website and please READ what is on there

well im actually planning after installing the screamer pipe

a 3.5" turbo back exhaust system

so i guess i have to put up with the sound of an exhaust leak for a bit

but its not like i drive my car everyday tho... weekend only

but how bad will this sound like on my stock system?

R31Nismoid... do you know what it sounds like???

also i am going to install the screamer soon... cause ive recently got it custom made

just curious of what people have experienced from these things

seriously stuff the screamer pipe unless ur gonna get an externally gates turbo like a gt30 + they all sound like rat shit, not havin a go but i heard plenty of internal gated screamers and external gated screamers and there is a big difference in sounds...i like my screamer on my car but i have a td07s with a 45mm ex. gate running 20psi my mate has one on a stock turbo and i wont go there on how it sounds

take some proper advice

*pics up hair and sticks on own head*

so R31Nismoid... can I make this screamer pipe make flutter noises bro?

:)

ps - don't ban me..

I was simply asking the next question for the man. :P

I can describe the sound of a screamer pipe on stock turbo.

Get one of your mates.

feed him large plate of baked beans.

after about 2 hours, when he feels his stomache expand and make noises slowly traveling down his stomach to his ass, quickly lie on the floor on your side, with your left or right ear facing up towards the ceiling, get your mate to pull his pants down, undies too... get him to press his hairy arsehole to your upward pointing ear...

then tell him to let it rip!!!

there you have it..

screamer pipe off stock turbo, stock wastegate.

NOTE: Tell your friend to try and not follow through and shit all up side your head.

The thing i always find it funny on here is people say, "its federal law, and its illegal" but how many people's car break the laws here, or break the laws in their cars.. i dont think anyone could say they dont.

I think a screamer with an externally gated turbo sounds awesome.. Suprises a few people with a stealth exhaust on...

An internally gated turbo with a screamer pipe from my experiences sounds like a strangling cat... a HHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA sound... like when you hear a car with a really quiet exhaust getting up it... just a lot of air out of a pipe sound.

If you want to hear a video, search for the video HKS Twin Turbo Supra VS. Nissan 240sx.mpg on kazaa, the supra has one... bear in mind that car probably has 800+hp.. but gives you an idea how loud it is... haha its hallariously loud. The thing to bear in mind when you have a really loud car as well, is that police will hear you from ages away, which might sound cool, but you're always treading on eggshells when you get up it in the city, or anywhere for that matter

R31Nismoid, let him go and do whatever stupid thing he wants to do, only way it seems for some people to learn...often after about 3 failed attempts as well...

Im done trying to help in this thread

R31Nismoid - dude - your car sounds sick :P so angry :P

Cheers. You get over it though, trust me.

That was the old setup however :O

i know the fines 10k for no cat but what is the fine for a screamer? i have mine set up with a flange so i can easily have it on or off coz i luv the sound but dont look forward to the fines even though it is very hard to see it, so yeh anyone know the exact fine for them

ben...

Its exactly the same. You are venting exhaust gasses to the atmosphere unmuffled and not using a catalytic converter. You could put a muffler and cat on a screamer pipe and it would be perfectly legal.

aquariuz6, are you after the choof-choof-choof-choof noise when you come off the throttle rather than blow off valve noise? From your posts thats what im guessing as you dont seem to comprehend what a screamer pipe actually is (not to mention asked if you can run a BOV when you have installed your screamer pipe??), and alot of people think a ''wastegate'' makes the choof-choof-choof-choof noise.

    • GCG is a good company, they're a major distributor for Garrett in Japan as well.
    • Nah, OEM washer bottle and brake fluid reservoirs are fine I don't know what it is with the plastic that Mazda used, some plastics, like the washer bottle and brake fluid res are fine, and still look new after 20 years use, where as the coolant expansion tank, and PS reservoir, that I replaced with new OEM items when I first got the car, turned yellow and started getting brittle a few years later If the dirty yellow stained plastics didn't trigger me there wouldn't be an issue, but they did, much like the battery bracket....... Meh As for going back to work full time to support car stuff, nope, why, because I own a Mazda NC MX5, not a Nissan R series Skyline 🤣
    • I've never heard of CJ-motor, so can't advise you on them. I'd just go straight to GCG for a GCG highflow though. Seems no point to use a middleman. I'm somewhat surprised that the price on the CJ site is lower than the GCG retail price. Even though CJ would get a discount of some sort, you would hardly expect them to give up so much margin. Maybe the price is out of date? Having said that "I'd go to GCG"...when I did my highflow, I went to Hypergear. I did this https://hypergearturbos.com/product/rb25dethighflow/#tab-dyno-results with the R34 OP6 450HP profile. With the BB centre (extra $400) and intially with the standard boost actuator, but I eventually got him to send me the high pressure one when I got to the point of being able to actually use it. Ends up costing the same sort of money as the GCG highflow, but this is, of course, the turbo that I KNOW has a shorter length core and so moves the comp cover rearwards. The GCG apparently doesn't do that. My mechanic also swears by the GCG highflow, given that we have another turbo rebuilder who does something essentialy the same as theirs, using Garrett wheels. He says it stands up at really low revs and makes good power. I haven't pushed my HG highflow past ~240-250rwkW yet (should have a little more in it, but unclear how much) and it does have a fairly gentle boost ramp. OK, it's much better now that I have gotten my boost controller tuned up on it.  A lot of my earlier unhappiness was because I couldn't keep the wastegate flap as closed as it needed to be (including some mechanical issues). I'd still prefer it to boost up nearly as quickly as the stocker, and it certainly a bit slower than that. So maybe the GCG one is worth the first look (for you).
    • Ok thanks 🙂 I will higly consider this. Any "known" company for a good reviews and experience to send that off? Is that CJ-motor good one? Or go straight to GCG site? I need to use VPN to even find some of those "shops" let alone access them 🙂
    • You can literally put in as much WMI as it takes to quench the combustion totally (and then back it off a little, obviously), and it will keep making more and more power. The power comes from the cooling effect of the water (and the meth) and the extra fuel (the meth, which also has massive octane). It is effectively exactly like running E85. One might be slightly better than the other, but they are damn close. But with either you can lean on the boost or the timing (or both) waaaay more than with just petrol and the results are similar. Here's the first thing I googled for an anecdotal bit of evidence. Can't access the attachment without being a gold member, but it is there for the getting if able to, or searched up elsewise perhaps. https://www.hpacademy.com/forum/general-tuning-discussion/show/wmi-vs-e85/
