I don't personally see any way that this could really work, nor do I see any great appeal to having a "promo" car.

Just because NS.com have one, why should SAU want one? NS.com will use it to showcase their sponsors, as that is what their forum runs off - business. I don't see the relevance of having a show-off car for the sort of club that SAU is.

I know that I would rather see any money I would put into the club (whether it be national or state) used to continue the great planning and overseeing of events which we currently enjoy.

I don't think that it'd really work either but guess what, YOUR car can be an SAU promo car anyway. They sell the stickers right here in this thread: http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/in...showtopic=53033

If you want to do your bit for advertising/promoting our forums then get a sticker and whack it on your ride. I've got one ordered (through the tassie sticker thread) and as soon as I get it it'll be on my car.

We don't need one awesome car to promote SAU, we all have awesome rides ourselves which we can use to promote the site.

Just my 2c anyway :D

Ive just been thinking, how about instead of a promo car... how about promo carS? Like a few cars each state or something?

Since its been Loz's Money, time and effort, with discounts and help from sponsors couldnt we kinda do this ourselves?

I know peoples opinions about Commodores, but who has heard of V6 Vengence? Its a VN V6 with crappy factory metallic paint, and it runs high 11s... which is pretty good for a VN V6... thats was almost totally funded by the owner, with some help from some sponsors and forum members. Its been a great advertisement for Street Commodores...

Although the main reason i cruise through NS is the sponsors section, i think we may need to try an avoid SAU.com becoming more of online shop kinda thing...

perhaps we can use the promo car as a showcase car, to advertise or spread our name to other skyline enthusiasts sort of an advertisements for us aswell as the sponsers.

also another idea on each state having its own promotional car, perhaps we dont need to do it like NS.com by building a single car, perhaps we can hold a meet once a month or every 3 months in each state take pictures of each skyline and post it up here for voting. the winner of the event gets to become the "lead" car of the period. like... the winner has something that signifies that the car is the official SAU car of the month.

this way we can build more interest in the forums aswell. people will often search for skyline pictures. and since we'll have more pictures, we have better chance of showin up in the search. another advertisement for SAU. also we wont need to worry about promotional businesses and can remain just how we are but better

Well, that is the car I will be building towards. So if my idea works, perhaps mine might make the SAU - SA car.

Also i just thought of something else, perhaps every month or every two months would be a little tedious. Perhaps once a year, that way the runner ups and other cars have time to get their cars up to winning conditions. Also perhaps we can still get promotional items as the prizes, such as the winner gets a part for their car like a wing or body kit. or something on the outside that has the SAU logo on it which passes from 1 driver to the next.

Ok, need to make a few points to clarify things for people, or to at least put my mind at ease that people know the way things are.

Regarding money going into the club. Please remember that apart from the clubs using the site, there is nothing between the clubs and the site. ie, I get no money from them and they get no money from me. I have nothing to do with the clubs at all.

Secondly, as Shan pointed out, we hand pick 'sponsors' of the site and I am skeptical about calling them 'sponsors' as they assist in the costs of the site and thats it, I/we get no other benefits from them. Again, this is very different to the clubs and their club sponsors, they may offer discounts to members but the site advertisers/traders do not.

Thirdly (and lastly), I might be getting my old 'SAU' plates back soon, so I guess we could have my car as the unofficial SAU promo car. :P

Hope that helps,

Christian

    • Absolute f*cking nightmare. I had to take breaks constantly, and I was always pissed off when I got home. The line split in Italy on day 2 (we drove from the Netherlands), lol. Driving any narrow European town was... well, sh*t.   Appreciate it man. Here, I'll just drop a favourite from the load I took on Saturday.   I'll update here when things happen with the car, the thing is, with stock power and almost everything chassis-wise taken care of, there really are no problems. 268,000kms now and counting.
    • Ah! I actually managed to snag a lightly used set.... that aren't so suitable for me right now. They don't work on a GTT without some cutting or creative heat moulding. I thought about reselling them myself cause I didn't want to murder them, but it looks like I'm probably going to attempt to murder them/melt them because I may as well. @GTSBoy @PranK can somebody close this thread?
    • Hey mate,  I have a set, one is slightly damaged but wont be noticable once installed.  Shoot me a message if your still after them
    • I couldn't wait But, the black constant tension hose clamps were too thick and there wasn't enough clearance at the T/B and I couldn't get it to seat properly, so I had use a silver one there I also added some 3" silicone over the alloy bit that goes through to hole on the radiator support as it looked like it was sitting on the edge of the hole in the radiator support, I never noticed a rattle or anything, but there was a witness mark It is basicly done, and I can live with the silver hose clamp at the T/B, I will get a black clamp for the head vent though where it is attached to the bulkhead fitting  It never stops...LOL, only issue now with the shock tower brace is it slightly touches the under bonnet liner now, if I leave it it will either wear some paint off the brace where it touches, or damage the liner, so I removed the liner to see what I have to work with, with the liner removed I have about 20mm of clearance, but sadly the middle part of the underside of the bonnet is only dusted with paint and looks crap, so I cannot have that, but.... as I have a roll of Carbuilders premium under bonnet insulation in the garage laying around that is only 5.5mm thick (we were going to use it on the boys Patrol, but he crashed the front of it a few months and it was written off, hence why he now drives my old Honda Accord Euro), I'll use the OEM liner as a template and get the Carbuilders stuff fitted up to cover that dusted paint up
