Theres NO parking, a constant "beep beep beep beep beep" noise of trucks/forklifts/etc & 11ty billion people running around everywhere like Myer just annouced "Take whatever you want, it's free"

So I thought I'd check in and see:

1. Whos going to the Games?

2. What are you seeing?

3. Whos working/volunteering and where/when?

4. Whos just gunna watch on TV?

family friend is competing in the weightlifting so i am particularly interested in that...

i also work near the games and road closures and so on will impact me as well, but luckily i am on holidays for another 2 weeks...

Not wanting to sound "un-Australian", but the games are going to be a biggest pain in the butt. Traffic is going to be absolute caos, and catching a tram carrying tools, parts and weights, to attend a site is a high probability

GO AUSSIES!!, but i can't wait till it's over..............

Yep agreed.. the games are gheye! (imo) Just an inconvenience for us. I was just saying this morning.. who gives a rats ar5e about a baton.. a flame going across the world is one thing but a baton.. pfft. Don't drive down the northern citylink tomorrow (inbound) at about 5:30 or you'll get stuck.. (ballarat>sunbury>port melb is tomorrow).

I wouldn't mind so much if it wasn't for the gumby tourists who can't drive/walk across a road etc and the fact we can't even drive down half the roads we use daily.

Oh and don't get your hopes up about the PT system Al.. apparently that's going to be chaos as well. It's been suggested that we use PT 'outside of peak times' ...pfft.

GO AUSSIES!!, but i can't wait till it's over..............

To be honest - I feel the same way.

As my work (Melbourne Sports & Aquatic Centre) is a major venue for the Games, gettin to/from and in/out at the moment is a joke!! AND the Games haven't even started yet.

They will be cool - and hopefully Melbourne will do a roaring trade and make a buck or two (holds breath) but I too can't wait for normal to come back.

hehehe I feel lucky I'll be in WA for this

Will prob watch some of it on TV and of course GO THE AUSSIES but I doubt that Melb will make any money from it.

What is the latest on ticket sales....last count wasn't too good and it has all gone quiet since then (too expensive IMO)??

True that, i goto uni in Carlton necxt to the village and travel with pt every day. As it is now the trams/trains cant cope (during peakhour there is just not enough platforms in the cityloop to cope with the demand) so imagine how bad it will get during the games.

What do u guys reckon of the Commonwealth games anyway? To me it seams like a cheaper version of the Olympics, i mean who really cares about the commonwealth anyway?! At least it will be good for our economy tho!

I got roped by the GF to go to the opening ceremony.

Admittingly, I'm in 2 minds. Yes I want to experience the Commonwealth Games while they're in my back yard but getting to and from work on the other 14 days is gonna suck massive wang!

All major routes into the city are pretty much closed off so I'll try to get VPN access to work from home or I'm gonna work ungodly hours to avoid as much traffic as humanly possible.

Whats with the commonwealth games!?! why dont athletes just compete at the olympics where the competion and in turn the fame and recognition (not to mention the sponsor money) is so much higher

also i work at the airport so thats gona be mega ghey

Gee - you guys all suck.

Nothing but selfish whinging.

How can you think a massive event like this will be crap?

Tim Allen making a new version of the Shaggy Dog? - now that sucks.

The Playboy Mansion is smack-dab in the middle of road closures and security zones - getting too/from work will suck, there will be no driving for me during the events and I think it'll be ace! Walk up to St Kilda Rd to cheer on the cycling road race and the marathon. Watch the English triathletes look sideways for sharks off St Kilda. There will be parties and bands and lions and tigers and bears.. oh my.

Treat this as an experience to savour.

Think of it as the Olympics where we win everything and America gets nothing :D

Besides - beating England at sports is as Australian as you can get. This mindset with beer plus the lyrics to Khe Sanh is all you need for a great time.

Go Team!

For your reference:

I left my heart to the sappers 'round Khe Sanh,

And my soul was sold with my cigarettes to the black market man.

I've had the Vietnam cold the sphincter of the universe from the ocean to the Silver City.

And it's only other vets could understand.

'Bout the long forgotten dockside guarantees,

How there were no V-Day heroes in nineteen seventy-three.

How we sailed into Sydney Harbour,

Saw an old friend but couldn't kiss her,

She was lined,

And I was home to the lucky land.

She was like so many more from that time on,

Their lives were all so empty,

Till they'd found their chosen one,

And their legs were often open,

But their minds always closed,

And their hearts were held in fast suburban chains.

And the legal pad were yellow,

Hours long, paypackets lean,

And the telex writers clattered,

Where the gunships once had been;

But the carparks made me jumpy,

And I never stopped the dreams,

Or the growing need for speed or novacine.

So I worked across the country from end to end,

Tried to find a place to settle down,

Where my mixed-up life could mend,

Held a job on an oil-rig,

Flying choppers when I could,

But the night-life nearly drove me 'round the bend.

And I've travelled 'round the world from year to year,

And each one found me aimless,

One more year the worse for wear,

And I've been back to South East Asia,

But you know the answer sure ain't there,

But I'm drifting North,

To check things out again.

Well the last plane out of Sydney's almost gone,

And only seven flying hours,

And I'll landing in Hong Kong,

And there ain't nothin' like kisses from a jaded Chinese Princess,

I'm gonna hit some Hong Kong mattress all night long.

Well the last plane out of Sydney's almost gone,

You know the last plane out of Sydney's almost gone,

And it's got me worried,

I'm goin' nowhere and I'm in a hurry,

You know the last plane out of Sydney's almost gone.

Well the last plane out of Sydney's almost gone.

Well the last plane out of Sydney's almost gone.

It's really got me worried,

I'm goin' nowhere and I'm in a hurry,

You know the last plane out of Sydney's almost gone.

cant believe all the negativity....

so what if we get inconvienienced for a few weeks...this reminds me of the wankers that didnt want the grand prix in albert park...i doubt noone in here would agree with them coz we are all petrol heads...so think of those that love the sports that are in the games...dont they deserve a few weeks of pleasure?

I nearly agree with you there (except for the England bit! )but excellent points. I know its easier for me to saying working in woop woop but I live basically on Beach Road and it is closed for at least 4 days from what the signs say. I am looking forward to walking to the end of my street with a chair and watching some cycling.

BTW James - English and Sharks is nearly true there as Nic's dad had me believe Dolphins were aplenty in the bay all year :D

You should at least have utilised this emoticon with mention giong to the mansion

    • Thought I would get some advice from others on this situation.    Relevant info: R33 GTS25t Link G4x ECU Walbro 255LPH w/ OEM FP Relay (No relay mod) Scenario: I accidentally messed up my old AVS S5 (rev.1) at the start of the year and the cars been immobilised. Also the siren BBU has completely failed; so I decided to upgrade it.  I got a newer AVS S5 (rev.2?) installed on Friday. The guy removed the old one and its immobilisers. Tried to start it; the car cranks but doesnt start.  The new one was installed and all the alarm functions seem to be working as they should; still wouldn't start Went to bed; got up on Friday morning and decided to have a look into the no start problem. Found the car completely dead.  Charged the battery; plugged it back in and found the brake lights were stuck on.  Unplugging the brake pedal switch the lights turn off. Plug it back in and theyre stuck on again. I tested the switch (continuity test and resistance); all looks good (0-1kohm).  On talking to AVS; found its because of the rubber stopper on the brake pedal; sure enough the middle of it is missing so have ordered a new one. One of those wear items; which was confusing what was going on However when I try unplugging the STOP Light fuses (under the dash and under the hood) the brake light still stays on. Should those fuses not cut the brake light circuit?  I then checked the ECU; FP Speed Error.  Testing the pump again; I can hear the relay clicking every time I switch it to ON. I unplugged the pump and put the multimeter across the plug. No continuity; im seeing 0.6V (ECU signal?) and when it switches the relay I think its like 20mA or 200mA). Not seeing 12.4V / 7-9A. As far as I know; the Fuel Pump was wired through one of the immobiliser relays on the old alarm.  He pulled some thick gauged harness out with the old alarm wiring; which looks to me like it was to bridge connections into the immobilisers? Before it got immobilised it was running just fine.  Im at a loss to why the FP is getting no voltage; I thought maybe the FP was faulty (even though I havent even done 50km on the new pump) but no voltage at the harness plug.  Questions: Could it be he didnt reconnect the fuel pump when testing it after the old alarm removal (before installing the new alarm)?  Is this a case of bridging to the brake lights instead of the fuel pump circuit? It's a bit beyond me as I dont do a lot with electrical; so have tried my best to diagnose what I think seems to make sense.  Seeking advice if theres for sure an issue with the alarm install to get him back here; or if I do infact, need an auto electrician to diagnose it.
    • Then, shorten them by 1cm, drop the car back down and have a visual look (or even better, use a spirit level across the wheel to see if you have less camber than before. You still want something like 1.5 for road use. Alternatively, if you have adjustable rear ride height (I assume you do if you have extreme camber wear), raise the suspension back to standard height until you can get it all aligned properly. Finally, keep in mind that wear on the inside of the tyre can be for incorrect toe, not just camber
    • I know I have to get a wheel alignment but until then I just need to bring the rear tyres in a bit they're wearing to the belt on the inside and brand new on the outside edge. I did shorten the arms a bit but got it wrong now after a few klms the Slip and VDC lights come on. I'd just like to get it to a point where I can drive for another week or two before getting an alignment. I've had to pay a lot of other stuff recently so doing it myself is my only option
    • You just need a wheel alignment after, so just set them to the same as current and drive to the shop. As there are 2 upper links it may also be worth adding adjustable upper front links at the same time; these reduce bump steer when you move the camber (note that setting those correctly takes a lot longer as you have to recheck the camber at each length of the toe arm, through a range of movement, so you could just ignore that unless the handling becomes unpredictable)
    • I got adjustable after market rear camber arm to replace the stock one's because got sick of having to buy new rear tyres every few months. Can anyone please let me know what the best adjustment length would be. I don't have the old ones anymore to get measurements. I'm guessing the stock measurement minus a few mm would do it. Please any help on replacing them would be fantastic I've watched the YouTube clips but no-one talks about how long to set the camber arm to.
