Interesting that everyone is ready to jump SK when it was quite obvious that he was performing a favour. I have a mate who is a mechanical engineer/engine builder who was in the same boat doing work for me. I respected that he had a full time job doing other work and he had to work around me. That not many other people could do the work I required or had my trust I waited. And in the end I had an awesome engine that no one else could have/buy. Keep in mind that it was a 400cc 5 valve twin cam moto engine but none the less it is still the same.

normally i dont comment in these threads where i have no business, but since you seem to think your opinion is so highly valued here, i thought i would give mine to you.

every single post of yours in this thread has been nothing but worthless slander or opinion, being quite a serious situation for the people involved i dont see the need for you to troll blindly. SK is a grown man and can defend himself, as he has.

fwiw, theres a very large difference between paying large sums of money for contracted work, and getting your 'mate' to help you out.

Just so that no one is under any disillusions here. I have sent Felix 25 pictures of his RB30 bottom end at every stage of the build process. That includes pictures of every part used and all machining work done. I have also written 41 emails and sent countless PM's. I have even sent him a picture of the crate that his engine will be packed into. As far as I am aware I only owe him one picture and that's the one of his engine in the crate ready for shipping, obviously I can't send him that picture until it is actually ready.

In those emails and PM's I have answered over 100 questions, supplied more than 15 pages of technical and engineering suggestions to his questions and problems. Not just on engines but on every aspect of an R32GTR. If I had been charging my usual engineering rates by the hour, he would owe me enough to build 5 engines.

Due to the delay I haven’t asked for any progress payments. I have covered the costs myself, personally, because I felt that it wasn’t fair to ask him for the payments even though they were entitled under the terms of the supply contract.

:P cheers :)

PS; Felix, please, email and PM is better than an open forum. I does neither of us any good.

hey i am sorry, may be i did go over board alittle, i am just too eager to get my bottom end, please try yout best to get it done soon.

thanks

how bout for the next rb30 build, a timeline with specific dates will NOT be provided, more a (at best) estimation.

and make sure he lets the client know there has been cases of massive delays in the past but the end product is still provided as promised.

some customers are understanding.....some are not!

I dont know sydneykid and I have never dealt with him, but the situation these guys have been put through is ridiculous.

In Buisness, never promise what you cant deliver.

I myself get very irritated over excuses, particularly if I have paid upfront. You guys talk as if he is building some exotic Multi valve V12 Ferrari Motor, wake up and smell the coffee its just a common RB thats in about a billion Skylines and VLs and everyone elses priorities and schedules must change to suit because he has given you advice and runs a race team.

Makes me laugh!

What does a bottom end mean? just the block without the head? does it mean it has no pistons as well, it's just the physical engine block?

a bottom end means prepped and bored block, crank, rods, rings, bearings usually oil pump and water pump too. basically all ready to accept a head on it. also known as a short motor.

a bare block is just called a block.

Look I really think that this thread should get closed. Speak to the guy (On the telephone or face to face) and if he tells you to get stuffed then hire a solicitor. If he gives you a reason as to why it is taking so long think about it. We rely on people who screw us around every day and we all deal with it. I personally wouldn't ever give someone in another country that I didn't personally know thousands of dollars for any service, regardless of what other people (on an internet forum) said about him, especially if I hadn't even spoken to him. Just my 2c worth, think about it before you flame me.

Thank you for your feedback mate. I will review this and add it to my new spiritual guidance plan. I was trying to make a point of saying that a lot of the comments here should be kept off an open forum. I tried to use comparisons that people could empathise with. Im sorry if you misunderstood the point that I was trying to make.

    • Update 4: Hi all. The car drives again! Haven't driven for long, only to store it in the garage again, but the test drive was successful. The coolant and oil leaks seem to be fixed for now. Temps on the engine were also very good, while moving I never even saw 80C water during the approx. 30 minute drive. Ate up all the coolant in the reservoir though so will have to fill that even more when I go to the car next time. One thing that pisses me off is that the RPM gauge is still f**ked, I even resoldered the board twice and used copper paste on the silly screws that are used as connections. Next time I take it out I'll take apart the board and fit new components, I'll see if I can get a replacement IC for it.  I have an appointment set for 22nd of September for the engine tune to 370hp. Alignment also still needs to be done. My hope is that I can get all the legal stuff over with by the end of this season. Anyone of you have advice regarding intercoolers? Currently there is an APEXI core fitted, one of those weird hybrid ones, 600x270x76. I don't think it's bad but it's not new and now I still have the chance to change it now to legally include it in the paperwork. Only issue is that the only options that would arrive in time are a HKS Type R intercooler or generic Ebay spec intercoolers comparable to a JustJap one. Ideally I'd order a Plazmaman but it takes over a month to receive which would mean making the car legal has to wait until next season. Would love to hear some input on this. Same story for my injectors, the previous owner was a nunce and put ID 1050x on the engine. They work but are obviously not ideal at "normal" power levels. But I don't see a reason to change them unless the tuner says it's necessary. I read online before buying a different exhaust that the top secret style rear diffusers won't fit due to the size of the rear resonators. My buddy and I made it work by slightly "adjusting the shape" of the mounting bracket and making some spacers out of 3d print for the mounting bolts. Fits like a charm. Just putting this here in case someone has this problem. Even the hefty HKS Silent Hi Power rear can fits without hitting anything.
    • Well they got my money but they are not getting my gearbox !
    • It's needed for rolling idle up, and I think it is a decider on VCT also.
    • I mean, not really. Link ECU's can absolutely still have errors from the ECU thinking it's getting a sensor it's not expecting. I would imagine the speed at the ECU level in Nistune does absolutely nothing anyway? I assume the ECU does not do any fancy TC stuff with regards to front+rear wheel speed or anything of that like anyway. Someone who uses Nistune may be more fluent in it.
    • Not yet quite as bad as what we've seen a Jim Berry clutch do in an R32 GTR though when it decided to cut a chassis rail in half... Still very very gnarly and a great reason to avoid.
