How much oil do I need to put in the engine when I change the oil? I bought Motul 8100 X-cess 5w40.

I have a Series 2 C34 Stagea with an RB25DET NEO engine.

I remember my S13 used to take about 3.7 litres, so I guessing it is probably around over the 4 litre mark?

4.3 then check it.

Motul is trash, i just used it, motor is noisey, never use it again.... only reason it has good SAU feedback is the one of the guys is mates with the rep, mechanic's have said it has done shit in other studys.

Charles and I swear by Fuchs, so get it in ya!

Motor is cleaner, smoother, quieter etc. Lasts longer from Chuckies lab tests and my touch tests.

Lot of top drag cars and drifters use Motul.

I am now using Castrol 10W- 60 (synthetic).

how good is marketing. If these same people were beating their wives are bashing their kids, would you do it?

Castrol and Motul are trash.

I use Fuchs 10w30 when ever I can get it.

Motor is noiser since using motul this fill, doesnt feel as smooth

hang on ryan, motul and castrol are trash. that is a big call.

which oil grades and types are you talking about?

there are lower spec and higher spec oils in every range to suit an application or get it down to a price.

LOL.

I noticed that you put Motul 8100 in and had a bad experience... as did I. It stayed in for almost 2 weeks, the engine was much harsher and noisier. When I put the engine cleaner through, a large glob of sludge came out the drain hole. Will never use 8100 again.

I don't touch Castrol either. Not again.

I have tried a heap of different oils in my car (RP, Mobil1, Amsoil, Shell Helix Ultra, SIN, Castrol Edge, Nulon etc) but for the last 55,000kms I have only used Motul 300v Chrono (10W40).

Engine has greater response, is much more "rev-happy" and is smooth as silk AND it still feels great at 10,000kms when I do my change.

Yeah it costs a bit more, but I am happy to pay for quality. Especially when it comes to engine oil.

Happy to view these tests of Fuchs that you speak of, just point me to 'em!

did you think maybe the solvents and other additives in the motul oil maybe loosened the build up/varnish from other oils, and then the flush finally got it all out?? :)

if it sounds harsh and noisier, its entirely possible the oil is too light for the engine.

for me, ive never had a problem with castrol formula R (now edge sport) 5w30 in my SR20s and honda K24A. i run a flush before every oil change too!

waht was the prob you had with castrol??

Nope. It was the cleaner that got it out for sure.

I used the Amsoil cleaner (which is pretty harsh) when I drained the 8100.

The 8100 is a 5w40 I believe. Was much noisier than the Mobil1 (0w50) and noisier than Nissan's 7.5w30 that I had in there.

Felt quite loose (too loose) and the engine seemed to take a bit more effort to rev, but nowhere near the Penrite SIN which felt like it was suffocating my poor Stag (only lasted a week - ~800kms).

nulon is something i would like to try.

i have tried both of the lower motuls, i use the low end fuchs, chuckie did lab tests on his.

my motor had castrol for 40k km from the previous owner, the fuchs cleaned it out, freed it up a bit, oil came out cleaner and cleaner, got better economey etc.

are you still using the amsoil cleaner? i use nulons oil flush

now question, have you tried nulons range of oils?? i did once in my S15 SR20, but i cant remember why i stopped using it.......

Used the Motul engine flush every 2nd oil change since I changed to the 300v.

Only use the Amsoil flush when the engine felt crap after some average oil. It is pretty harsh stuff so I don't like to use it all the time.

Nulon, yes I used it once. It was my 2nd oil change (Nissan oil was the first with a major service & check).

Can't really remember much difference in feel over the Nissan oil, so I guess it was not a stand out either negatively or positively.

I WILL be putting it in my wife's Magna next weekend though after an engine flush, so will be able to compare it with the standard Penrite stuff that was used :) when her car was last serviced (not by me).

When you get your GTR Ryan, may I suggest the Motul 300v with a good filter? K&N, Versupeed?

Ryco or OEM Nissan filters,

With probably just a higher quality(depends how much it is thrashed by me) and thicker Fuchs.

Nissan 'Special Blend' FTW

:P

(Not fully synthetic, but the price is right)

I used to use Castrol Formula R in my Z, can't even remember what's in the Skyline (could be Special Blend in there too...). With all the extra expenses that life thorws at you, I just couldn't justify $60+ per change in the Z when it was a daily-driver. I shall be re-evaluating my choice for that particular car once I get my rather expensive new L28ET installed...

Mobil 1 also got a bit of use - but again, the Special Blend even changed more frequently, was a more economical buy.

Great globs of crap are certainly not unheard of coming out of JDM engines. And I certainly noticed the engine & oil temp decrease slightly when I did start using the Formula R in the old L-series (and no real increase in rattle-factor with the thinner oil)

Genuine Nissan oil filters, and thermostatically-controlled oil coolers are also a good thing.

Not sure if you have one, but on my radiator support i have a sticker saying "E/O-4.2ltrs - O/F-.3ltrs"

Simply means - Engine Oil - 4.2 litres, Oil Filter - .3ltrs

So 4.5ltrs for a full top up.

Also I do have to say, my neo6 is quiet as. It has over 160,000 k's on it, and with the motul feels so crisp. Also i am getting 600k's till the fuel light comes on. I can not fault this oil. Even changing @10,000k's the oil has excellent lubricity. You can feel it between your fingers.

I had a look for that sticker on my radiator support but it wasn't there.

In the end my Stagea took 4.5ltrs of Motul 8100 X-Cess. Hopefully it improves the fuel economy.

I always used Motul 4100 turbolight in my CA18DET S13 & it ran like a charm, however each to their own. I haven't had a problem with Motul as yet so I'll keep on using it until I do have a drama.

LOL.

Ghey-est "test" ever.

how so?

if you buy oil for power, it's probably the best test you're gonna get. i personally buy oil for the protective qualities, not power, but we're all different.

i went to my regular place for oil etc on the weekend, and the $45 5L oil that i used to get is now $75!!!!!!! wtf is with the prices???

which oil was that?

    • Before starting any work, we attempted to adjust the tune. However even after adjusting it to certain extremes like completely stopping fuel, it had no effect. What fixed it was removing the Nistune Board and installing the original EPROM instead. This immediately fixed the issue. Everything should have been fine with the Nistune Board installation, so I am unsure why it has caused a problem. The soldered connector is also properly soldered. This worked when I first got the 550cc injectors, before cleaning, but that may have been a coincidence.  We ended up not installing the fuel pump hanger (at least for now). So currently running stock injectors, stock fuel pump, stock fuel pump hanger – Well everything stock except the exhaust. Now I have around €1400 in Nistune, Injectors, and Hanger collecting dust for the time being, perhaps I'll install them in the future. For now I'll enjoy the car as is 😁 Thanks a lot for all your assistance, I really appreciate all the help you have given me.
    • The turbo can’t be the issue. They’re proven to make much much power than you’re making. There is something in the setup that isn’t correct. - has the exhaust got any silly step downs? - what exhaust manifold?
    • Ok, just the way you wrote it made it look like you had the stagger the wrong way around
    • I was getting anxious with the DVLA not knowing if the paperwork is fine or not, so I rang them. No update had been given, but I  was reassured that providing the box was ticked on the V750 then the application will go through fine. I've been checking the DVLA website pretty much every day, in the hope that it would have been done. Fast forward to Monday 29th  and I was greeted with a new screen on the check, and it finally showed as Taxed and MOT'd, woohoo! The car was in desperate need of a clean, not knowing when this day was coming it was put off. As far as I was concerned I had another 3 weeks  I'm not normally one for using snow foam, but I wanted to give it another try It hasn't cleaned up too bad considering it's 21 years old and lived on a boat for a number of weeks. The personalised number plate is J2 XBK, an illegally spaced number plate would have it read J2X BK. BK could either represent  the colour black or Baker, which is my surname. I filmed the first drive, the Youtube link will be at the end. I used the same driving route I did with the 323F V6 when I had a new exhaust installed, heres a couple of photos A few more since then Youtube video can be viewed here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TjkFHPzjGDw
